Seriously, what happened to this place? The questions never got answered, at least I could never find where they were.
Now we have random questions not even concerning dog shows. People if you have a question that doesn't have to do with dog shows (or if it does, since this is a dead topic), go to Dog Dish or the cat chat. You'll get way more help.

do you have any idea how to get my bullmastiff to eat his own food instead of mine. he could have a huge bowl of food and he will still get on the counter and eat my food no matter what it is.

Once again, you'll get more help if you post it in Dog Dish

For the JRT that won't stop hunting, it's in his breed. You should have known this when you got him. Now, you can exercise him more because a tired dog is a good dog. So he'll be too tired to hunt.

The bullmastiff eating your food, well put your food up away from him. When you have food out, crate him if he's gotten too bad at this. This bad habbit most likely was caused by you giving him table scraps. Immediately stop doing so (it's better for him too) There was a recent discussion in Dog Dish about this too, so just look that up.

Hi Gina,
I really hope you can help me. I'm despoerate! I have a 5 1/2 month Shih Tzu (Millie) I love dearly but I don't know how to get her to stop playing with her poop. We use potty pads and she has no problems going in the right place but if I'm not here or not watching she drags the pooh all over the Condo Living room and dining room floor. The longer I don't notice she went the more she spreads it. Do you Have any ideas to help me break this frustrating habbit?

The guy is a professional, and has been doing this for years, so he knows exactly what he's doing. His methods should not be used unless you've had an actual trainer or behaviorist show you how, and you know exactly what to look for. Otherwise you're risking a lot. I believe they run something across the screen during the show saying don't try this at home or something like that. There's a reason for that.

You guys will get very little help on here considering this thread was made for dog shows, you know like Westminster and most of these questions have nothing to do with it. And I doubt Gina will ever answer them now that it has been about a year since this topic was started.

Hi Gina,

We just adopted a doberman mix. He is about 7 months old. We have had him for about a month. The problem that I am having is that he is not house broken. We have tried everything from crate training to putting paper on the floor. He just doesn't seem to want to go outside to do his business. I have tried looking for signs that he needs to go out but the only ones he gives me is when he starts to pee. He does go to the bathroom by my lani doors. But he just doesn't seem to want to let anyone know that he wants out. I should also tell you that when we got him we could see his ribs and could tell that he wasn't loved. He is a great dog other wise. He is a puppy. What can I do? I am so tired of cleaning the floors everyday.

Hope to hear from you soon.

So Gina, I'm looking at getting an Australian Sheperd. Well for when I get older. So I'm asking you, should I get one and put her in the contest or no.

You should get a designer dog. some breeds have been crossed with a poodle to get the popular features of that breed plus the non shedding hair of a poodle. A popular one is the cockapoo

With a designer dog, only some of the puppies don't shed. It can't be guarenteed. Breeders of designer dogs usually don't have the dogs in mind, for them it's the money. If you want a designer dog, go to the animal shelter a lot of the dogs were sold as designer dogs, but when the cuteness wore off they were abandoned there. Designer dogs really have no purpose. For instance a "puggle" which is a pug beagle mix, tends to have a short muzzle like the pug, yet if it has the energy of a beagle, the poor dog will have breathing problems. And what if it's like a beagle and keeps its nose to the ground almost 24/7? And "labradoodles" what's their purpose? If you want a dog that doesn't shed, get a curly haired breed (like a PWD, Poodle, Bichon, etc.) or a wire-haired breed (schnauzers, wire fox terriers, etc.)
The breeders of designer dogs have done almost nothing to actually get a breed started, except make up fake kennel clubs like the Continetal Kennel Club, which basically sends you papers telling you that your dog's a mutt. The
"c ockapoo" has been around since the fifties and still aren't registered, whereas breeds like the Ore Pei who have been around for about 20 years is already recognized by the FCI.

kutekittie, we need way more information about the breed that you want. The biggest is how much energy are you willing to put into exercising the dog?
If you aren't planning to compete in conformation (the breed ring), I highly suggest that you adopt one from your local animal shelter or a rescue group. The ones in shelters are pretty much on death row. At a lot of shelters the animals only get a week to find a home before it gets euthanized. There are tons of puppies there, purebreds and mixes, and if you get an adult, it's very likely that they already have some training.
Good luck.
