He's trying to fill his last tank and he put 20,000 pounds into it when he knew it should have already been filled. Then when they get to port they find out they have a hole.
Any captain worth his salt would have known that those 20,000 pounds weren't just magically disappearing...THERE WAS A PROBLEM!!!!
Keith is a jerk and an idiot...Simple. It's the reason he keeps going through greenhorns. No one wants to work for him.
Captain Colburn doesn't go through greenhorns at a faster rate than the other captains.
In addition, most of his crew has been with him a long time. In fact, Travis posted here in another folder and said that Captain Keith was a good captain and good to work for.
He wouldn't keep the crew with him for very long if he was a bad captain.
Running a crab boat is a business and a huge responsibility. Keith runs his boat the way he feels he needs to. As for Moi he needed to man up or get off the boat.
I ain't read through the entire topic, just a few pages, but I want to get my thoughts in.
Working on a boat is different than pushing papers around an office. It's a dangerous job in the first place, and these crabbers compound it with rough conditions and very demanding physical work. The Captain of a boat has a duty to keep his ship safe and running, and more importantly keep his crew safe and working his boat and put money in their pockets. He's not there to hold hands with them and paint their toenails.
As for Moi, he had no business at all going into Captain Colburn's wheelhouse. He should have been dropped off at the nearest port once that happened. The Captain is the king, his word is law once you're on his deck. And when you're out at sea, and in some weather and trying to do a job, it's unacceptable to leave one's post to go and do that. Keith gave him so many chances, but the man just couldn't hold up with the rest of guys, and Keith rightly fired him. And he was nicer than I would have been were that my vessel.
While I admit to cringing at some of Keiths' hissy fits, he comes across as intelligent, genial and articulate in interviews on the DC podcasts/interviews on this site; pretty much a 180-degree difference vs. his 'captain' persona onboard.

I will say this . I at first didn't really care for Keith, especially the way he talked to his own brother. However, when he cried after that fishing boat(can't remember the name, but they showed the Coast Guard rescue) went down with only one man surviving, it really touched me. As well as when he was talking to his little girl on the phone and laughing when she was doing the "crab dance" for him. Those were great moments! Go, Keith! You're awesome!
I'm sure that Captain Keith's portrayal has something more to do with ratings rather than accuracy, as a few others have mentioned. Even if you despise him, it definitely adds an element to the show that will keep you hooked, whether you want to admit it or not...
Deadliest Catch is a very popular show and we should be happy that the captains allow those camerappl on board so we can see what it's like to be a Bering sea crabfisher. So why ask for ppl to be removed from the show? I think Keith is a guy doing his job as a captain and getting it done well. Untill you do what he does you can't know how you would react. I am also pretty sure that with camera's pointing on you 24/7 while doing a high stress job everybody will show some less perfect side of him/herself. So stop complaining and watch the show as is or just don't watch.
Keep Keith ON the show! And all the other captains and crew!
I'm sure Captain Keith has his good points, but I knew how his poor crew felt when he yelled at them.I used to take ballet and the teachers were jerks. They wanted it their way or the highway, they would make comments JUST like Keith did and it would make me feel lower than dirt. After hearing so many comments like from my teachers I started to feel worthless, that I could never do it right.
What I'm saying is,if you make your crew feel worthless it could cuase a accident becuase they just don't care anymore.
We are all human and just becuase he's the Captain doesn't give him the right to say whatever he wants to them.
I will post one more post on this tread before I get on with my life.
This is to all this people who posted that this tread should be removed.
I'm a American and I live in America,I should have the right of (quote) whining/complaining/debating if I want to (I'm sure people from other countrys think Americans only whine)even (EVEN) if it won't cahnge him being on the show,at least I'm able to post my option on the matter.
For those of you who can't handle Keith: work on getting a bit tougher! Sheesh. This is a tough world, a tough life, and an environment few of us ever expose ourselves to.
Kieth is doing his job as he see's it in his own unique way. His brother needed what he got and it improved his work. Moi was at best a wimp who couldn't cut it when given every chance. The crew needed a shake up. We see this all the time in business and sports.
I'm new to the boards, I guess I'm more a lurker. I like Captain Keith, he is like a big teddy bear. IMHO we are all entitiled to our own opinions. /shrug
i notice there is a lot of editing in this thread by the moderator... hmmm...
anyone else think it's at least a little ironic that keith is the bad guy now that blake is gone? Blake and Keith are friends and captained boats in a co-op together.
Why is it that everyone hates Keith when he acts rough and tumble, yet Phil and Sig and everyone else can throw fits at their crews all day and everyone just loooooves them?

Just my $.02.
OOOMMMMGGGG!!!! I had no idea that Blake and Keith were friends, wow.
I like Keith and I know how being around brothers can be,one second you want to wring their necks, the next second you want to hug them as tight as you can.
Sometimes Sig can get a little annoying with his yelling, but I like him too.
I don't think Phil yells at his crew much, does he????
Uhm, what show are you folks, that hate Keith's dramatic tirades, watching? Ya'll (yes I live in Texas, no I don't have a horse, I wish I did) Phil screams at his boys (and yes they do deserve it most of the time), Sig gets pretty surly as well "Shut up and fish", and let's not forget "I WANT MY CRAB COUNT AND I WANT IT NOW". Ahem, sorry for the all caps, but that was the way he said it. Their outbursts are part of how they were raised in that kind of environment and the best parts of the show. Passed on from one generation to another. They are human. I was raised by a Mexican mother. They don't even come close. Try ticking off my mom and she would eat Keith alive. I've always said she had the language of a sailor, in english and spanish. However, I was more like my dad, quiet. But I sure can see why Keith has his moments. Toughen up and leave the man alone and definitely don't stop filming him.
