Does the captains/boatowners get paid to have the cameras on board each season? How many months a year do the captains and crew work a year? Are the boats just sitting tied up during the summer months or do have a another purpose during "off season"?

I'll answer one - most boats do salmon tendering or cod fishing when they are not crabbing.
From everything we have been told, they do NOT get paid to have the camera's on board. They get compensated some for gas and food, but that's about it.
Also, from what I understand, they are not even compensated for the DVD sales..
Some of the captains and crew work up to 10 months a year...not quite so much lately, tho as they have been "touring."
I don't buy that they don't get paid for Discovery filming them. Why in the world would they allow cameras on board so some tv network could make a bunch of money? They surely must be paid by Discovery, just as any other host would be. Do you think they would travel all over and make all these appearances if they weren't paid? It's possible that the company owning the boat is paid, but I would assume the individuals get paid too.
