I had a real LOL moment from an episode ago, when CM's new greenhorn commented that it was just like prison and Josh Harris drolly quipped in "with a chance of drowning". Those Harris guys have such great senses of humor. The Bering sea dementia bits were hilarious. Why was Lynn G..(?) done up like the tin man?

My DC crush has a sese of humor! Ah, dreamy- sigh. Not sure why Lynn was done up as the tin man, but I will agree that he perpetually appears to be under the influence of some substance.

Actually, the "it's like prison with a chance of drowning" was originally said by Andy Hillstrand a season or 2 ago.
Josh obviously watches the show and finished the greenhorn's "it's like prison" comment with the rest of Andy's original line.
I found it hilarious.

Lynn was probably dressed as the Tin Man for Halloween. Some of the crews dress up for Halloween and have a little fun. I know that the Time Bandit crew had costumes for Halloween.

The quote comes from Mark Twain and seamen have been using it for over a hundred years. Still as true today as when he first said it.

Interesting. I have now learned my one new thing for the day. Smile
Was it in a story he wrote, or just something he said? I'd be interested in knowing what situation he was talking about.

Not positive, but I think it's from "Innocents Abroad", a book about a sea voyage he took in about 1868. Will try to research it better.

Found it. My bad. It is by Samuel Johnson (1709-1784). Here is the full quote.

No man will be a sailor who has contrivance enough to get himself into a jail; for being in a ship is being in a jail, with the chance of being drowned... a man in a jail has more room, better food, and commonly better company.
Samuel Johnson

Thanks!

Samuel Clemens / Samuel Johnson - easy enough mistake to make.
