...from all the weight up in the wheelhouse 3 of them up there in last night's episode. Isnt having a few extra on board cutting into profits? Seems like it would get a little boring just sitting and watching.
i guess it would get boring if we werent talking about the Hillstrands. i mean there is no boring moment with Andy and Jonathan on board. Niel is a little less funny but he does have his moments. and having the extras might be a good idea. that way if anyone gets hurt there is a back up person there to fill in for him and then one to help him do what ever medical things he might need help with. just my opinion
Hello all, I was going to join the forum on a tangent similar to this one, but I'll just kinda hop on in. I only started watching D.C. this past year- Great Show!- and have been playing catch up watching the past show reruns. (play season 1!!) The "3 captains" -this has really been driving me crazy, but not for the same reason. What if something happens and the ship goes down? Isn't this normally (I know, normal does not equate to Hillstrand) a 5 man crew - 4 on deck and 1 captain? Now, there's the 5 man crew, 2 more co-captains and 2 (correct?) camera people, almost twice as many people as usual. Look at the episode where a ship went down and there was one survivor, 2 bodies, and an empty life raft. What happened? The water looked relatively calm, while these guys are fishing in (I know,I know-editing) what lookes like a hurricane. With 4 Hillstrands on the ship, I don't really see a "every man for themslf" mentality. It seems like they get film shots of the boat in the same weather. Is there something I don't know? Another boat running along side for shots adding a sense of security? Any thoughts on why Jonathon went along in the first place? I have a few, but a few "feed the troll" so I won't elaborate unless someone hits on a couple

The name of this topic is NOT funny. IMO, it is in extremely poor taste.
There is nothing funny about a boat capsizing, and certainly not in a thread's title as a lead-in to a "funny" comment.

Amen, I know they were just poking fun at the Hillstrands, but to make the topic like that was NOT funny
It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant some people can be. I understand that everyone has a right to voice their opinion, but are such comments appropriate given the kinds of dangers these guys face? Someone need to be spanked!
If you are scared of the risks, then don't do it...don't accept the risks and then complain about the risks...you knew the risks when you went out, and you need to accept that someone WILL die, Thats all part of life, If I had a son on board I would be sad, but not surprised, Because He and I both would have known the risks, The fact is, If you can't take the waves and the hard work of crabbing, then you shouldn't be doing that job..
It will turn over just like another boat of the same size without a Self-righting design, the only thing is that once the boat flips, It will just flip back over upright, and if everyone held on, they should be fine...most of the coast guard's Boats are self-righting as well
Seriously....its bad luck to even talk about this, much less make it the title of a thread. Please change the post name or be prepared to bite a herring to remove the bad "Ju-Ju'
I agree -- end the thread. Enough fishermen have died during this show, and you have to think about their families. Let's be a little sensitive towards their loved ones.

Respectfully, I don't think this is true. A crab boat carries large hulls full of sea water. If a wave or ice flips it more then ninety degrees I do not see anyway for the ship to recover and right itself. Even if it could the damage would be fairly massive.
I know some of the USCG boats are self righting but even they are few and far between.
My knowledge of this may be incomplete. I would be interested in any information you may have about this topic.
