The Elbow Room closed, then the new owners, who purchased it for $400,000, didn't have enough money to purchase the old name, so renamed it "Lattitudes", but then they closed as well. Don't know why -- whether it was lack of funds or some other reason. I read that Unisea Corp. bought the liquor license and won't let anyone else use it, at least for now. So the buiding is now empty. The Elbow Room has a website you can see which shows the interiors, and some of the history.
I think they go to the Unisea bar now. But maybe someone who lives in Dutch Harbor could confirm that. Also, I'd still like to know why the owners of Lattitudes couldn't make a go of it. Who spends $400,000 to buy a bar and then closes it right away. Couldn't they get a loan?
There's a podcast called "Meet the Unisea Family" on the DC website that has an interview with bartenders Amy and Lisa, which gives an interesting take on why people end up in Dutch Harbor -- to make money, period.
