Yeah but what I want to know is what captains would want to be a part of it after the way some of them have been portrayed?

My folks were just down at the Sea Star, which was on Season 1 and used as a chase boat during last season (I think), and someone there told them that there will definitely be a Season 5. No one knew if the Sea Star would be the chase boat for Season 5 or not, nor did they know which boats will be on the show.

If you do head down to Fisherman's Terminal in Interbay you can pay ten bucks to tour the Sea Star. It's super fun. The day I was there, deckhand Kenny from Season 1 (thin fellow with a white beard) was down there chatting with folks, and it was a kick in the pants to meet him. He's the real deal.

Whatever comes up on Season 5, I hope it'll focus less on the manufactured drama of Captain's bets and suchlike and instead focus more on the nitty gritty drama of just being out at sea, like in Seasons 1 and 2. As much as I enjoy our regular cast of characters, it would have been nice to see more fresh blood. I was sorry when the Early Dawn and North American sort of dropped off the narrative map during opilio season; I wanted to get to know them better and see where they went.

Incidentally, I was especially engaged by how Captain Sten of the North American handled firing his greenhorn, D-Bo, which we saw in the last episode. It was an interesting contrast to how Keith fired Moi. By the way he phrased it, Sten turned it into a positive; he showed respect for D-Bo as a human being (despite making him wear those silly horns), and told him he could be proud for having fished in the Bering Sea. It was classy, and it didn't degrade either one of them.

I'd like to see more of that on the show.

Isn't Sten the greatest! He's a class act every time you have a conversation with him. Sten turned a bad situation for D-Bo into a positive with his encouraging words. I agree, Keith could have handled Moi's situation better but it also shows how two Captn's in similar circumstances handle their crews. I think Sten respects his crew more than most Captn's. Go North American. Only hope to see more next season.
