What is UP with this guy's obsession with fire? Lighting the hook is one thing, but setting things on fire on the deck is scary! I did'nt see any fire extinguishers around. Is'nt this pretty risky? Is this common behavior on boats?

There are fire extinguishers around. It's a safety regulation. The scenes I've seen he's using what looks like lighter fluid in which only the fumes burn and he quickly pats them out. On deck with the cold and wet climate, fire is easily doused. Being the fire bug he is, he seems to use only small amounts of the accelerate. I think some of the other scenes might be the crew playing pranks on him because of his pyromanic tendencies.

I still think he's funny. Of course, I'm not on the boat with him.

I laugh way too loud when Edgar lights things on fire.
I know it's probably inappropriate, but it IS hilarious.
I also cracked up at Jake when Edgar lit up that cup at the kitchen table - Jake didn't even flinch, which makes you think he's gotten pretty used to it.

ETA:

Oh, my other favorite moment last night was when Edgar was scolding the dummy right before he set it on fire - something along the lines of wasting 4 hours of his life.

Yeah, the dummy was hilarious and he paid the ultimate price for disappointing Edgar. Too bad he didn't get Sig. That would have been even better.

Same here on all counts! I don't know why I think it's so funny when he lights things on fire, and I LOVE that bit where he lit the dummy on fire. If I'm not imagining things, didn't he try to do it so that the greenhorn (or??) who was watching thought it was a real person? I remember that but maybe that was more creative editing by DC than what actually took place. Either which way, funny as hades.

I agree that watching Edgar light things on fire is just wicked funny! As far as safety is concerned, I think the Northwestern has one of the best safety records in the crabbing fleet. So I think Edgar probably knows what he is doing!

I agree. He seems to know what he's doing. Either that, or he fools us well!

Just one more thing to add to the list of Reasons Why We Love Edgar Hansen.
