Actually, I hate to throw in a possible monkey wrench into all your research but...there is a very distinct possibility that the performers for that song could be The Scala Youth Choir. If you look up Scala & Kolacny Brothers' album Dream On, although that particular song doesn't appear on it you can see that this is the exact style of the song. I also love the rendition on The Sloop John B on the promo piece and have also been doing exstensive research to find out who it is.
i'm heartbroken...i hadn't joined until today, but check twice daily to see if the song would ever appear, but now it has....only 30secs...i feel so broke up...i wanna go home *cry...
I contacted the Indianapolis Childrens Choir to confirm their partcipation in doing the :30 sec recording of Slopp John B for Deadliest catch. the response i got is
It is indeed the same Indianapolis Children's Choir that did the "Sloop John..." for the program.

I too talked with someone (via email) at the Indianapolis Children's Choir and was able to confirm that they did in fact sing the 30 second clip for the Discovery Channel. Who knows maybe with our support they will commission the full version.
Wow... It took an hour to get here but I am finally making progress finding this song.
I've paid for about a dozen songs in my life and this is one I would actually throw some money at. The full version has my support! Hope to see an update on this thread soon!
Out of a silly worthless coincedence I happen to have a copy of the ICC's version of "Sloop John B" Its not the complete song, but is slightly over a minute. They are unable to record it themselves because the Discovery Channel owns the rights for their version. I had a friend who was in college working towards a musical doctorate and one of his assignments was as an assistant instructor working with ICC. After hearing it rehearsed daily he fell in love with the piece and brought a digital recorder to work one day. Never occurred to anyone it would be a special clip until years later when it was finally used on the show.
