Did you ever notice that the 3 mannequins don't match the physical make up of the person being made over? If the person being made-over is a size 14 or 16 for instance, why are Stacy & Clinton showing them clothes on a size 4 mannequin? Get real and get some mannequins that match the size of their client.

what????? Mannequins are only to show the three types of styles the MO has to go shopping for. When you actually go shopping they are bringing you to stores that will have your own size.

I wouldn't be overly concrened about the mannequins either. Most are made for a size 2, sample size.

Didn't I read once that they have two mannequin sizes and the one they use on the show for heavier women is the size 12 mannequin?

look, clothes are NEVER going to look the same on a mannequin vs a real person. A mannequin, even if plus sized, is nicely proportioned and firm everywhere.. Eek

The mannequin is there to showcase the style of the clothing that is recommended for the MO. I don't see anyone complaining about the shoe sizes not matching the MO's feet??

Ideally they would find mannequins that were around the same size/shape as the women they're making over, however, that's not very realistic. They have probaly 1-3 mannequins that they re-use for every show. They're just trying to show the kinds of clothes the women should go for. Of course they're not going to look the same as they do on the mannequins, but that's not the point. They should try on clothes in the genre that they're presenting, and go from there to determine what looks best on the women.

At least in my opinion, a size 12 is not that big!
A size 12 will have more meat on her bones than a size 2, sure, but what about women who are *really* plus-sized?
The same jacket that looks so neat and trim on a size 12 mannequin wouldn't even button on a woman who wears, say, a 5X.
I'd love to see "What Not To Wear" feature a woman who's on the upper end of the Plus size range; now, that would be a challenge, and those of us who are somewhat smaller could undoubtedly learn some valuable insights, too.
This seems like an appropriate place for a mild plus size rant:
At 1X-2X, I'm sort of between mainstream and plus sizes, but I often shop plus size stores, and to put it mildly, a lot of the selections leave something to be desired.
For example, I browsed here here today, and now I remember why I rarely shop this store.
Then I looked at a plus size store that's featured pretty often on "What Not To Wear," and things weren't much, if any, better.
"But, Carla, you may well say, "nobody's forcing you to buy long shapeless tunic tops and stretch pants!"
That is true, and I don't buy those kinds of pieces.
I just wish there were a better selection for those of us with meat on our bones.
I don't think that's too much to ask.

IMO it's harder for someone who is plus size and conservative dresser. i've seen photos of plus sized women wearing head to toe black with very edgy haircuts and makeup, shoes~ chunky jewelry~ (on the road with b. cunningham from the NYT series is very eye-opening)/ take the british singer beth ditto. raunchy, super edgy but i tell you what, she is gorgeous and not a size 12 and shows more skin that i would dare no matter my size. i admire her ability to convey: i'm confident, this is my style and i don't have to hide behind a certain look that other people assume i should have'.
i also think there needs to be a division of what you wear at work and what you wear in your RL. many women buy clothes for work and then use that for their RL, meanwhile, they close themselves to exploring new colors, looks, because that's a part they ignore in their wardrobe.
when i gained half my weight after my car accident due to meds i had trouble finding clothes in my size since i'm also short. now, should that ever happen to me i wojuld be hiding less and being more out there in terms of being daring with how I want to look.
