Has there ever been an episode with a truly plus size woman on there? I mean a 22/24 or 26/28 size woman, not a size 12 or 14 woman.

I am a plus size woman who would LOVE to be on the show, I need so much help knowing what is really flattering to me.

Would S&C be willing to take on such a thing? Or do you think that they'd be afraid of really hurting someone's feelings? I for one have so gotten over the fact that I'm fat and think I could handle the constructive critism.

I adore the show and think that Clinton and Stacy are 2 of the most attractive people I've ever seen.

It is true that everyone deserves to know how to dress properly at whatever size they are, but keep in mind that the show does send messages to the public (especially to young viewers). Having an extremely overweight person on the show would teach the public that it's okay to harm your body like that. The show tries to teach people to love their bodies. Promoting an unhealthy lifestyle is the opposite of that. Just like they don't have anorexic women on the show, they don't have obese women either. Health comes first, fashion second.

Also, "getting over" being fat is a very defeatist attitude. You should never feel like you have to "get over" it. You should never have to live with it. Why not make a positive change?

Good luck.

I think the only 'true plus size' I'd ever seen on WNTW was the "Worst Dressed Woman in Government' episode.

I have to strongly disagree with spicypumpkin.

Just because someone is 'plus size' or 'too skinny' doesn't necessarily equate to an unhealthy lifestyle or an eating disorder. There is such a thing as genetics that make us all different sizes and fall outside what's considered 'the norm' - and we all should have a chance to look as good as we can ... what ever our size. All the viewers, especially the young ones, need to realize that we're all different and it's okay.

I would love to see more of all the harder to fit sizes - plus sizes, thin, talls, petites, curvy women, flat women, men, etc.

To carrieillinois - if you get the Bravo channel, check out the new Tim Gunn makeover show for the 'Jeanne' episode. I think it was the 2nd episode. She was a plus size woman and they did a great job with her on the show.

Good for you, Carrieillinois for feeling good in your own skin! Loving you bod 'as-is' is NEVER a 'defeatist attitude.'

WNTW's not showing true plus size has nothing to do with the 'healthy lifestyle' bit. Utter nonsense. (Doesn't that tattoo show feature stars who smoke?)

More likely they want MOs that will show a big shift in 'before' and 'after.' There might truly be less badly dressed plus sizes out there than smaller sized MOs. Because of negative attitudes surrounding size issues, many larger women are often very careful about how they dress. I rarely see a true plus sized woman sporting anything NEAR the outlandishly bad choices shown on WNTW.

I'm not saying that there aren't plus sized gals that need fashion 911...but I'll bet the ratio of outrageously bad fashion seen on smaller vs. plus size is pretty skewed in favor of the smaller sizes.

Spicypumpkin. I think your response is extremely inappropriate. This is a atyle board. It is not a place to preach to people about any topic, except (maybe) style. Carrieinillinois made aperfectly reasonable request - she wants to know how to dress her body in an attractive way. I shared in response to you on another thread how learning to dress my body gave me the self-esteem necessary to begin a successful weight loss program. We can all agree that being the correct weight and eating healthier is good - but In my opinion, your anti-obesity rants are counterproductive, and possibly in the realm of protesting too much.

I get everyone's point, but genetics alone can't make someone a size 28. I'll stop the anti-obesity rants once the anti-thin women rants stop as well.

And, did I not say that everyone deserves fashion advice?

Loving your body means knowing when to take care of it. If the first step to a healthier lifestyle is getting a nice new wardrobe, then that's great. But there's no need to give up and decide to stay overweight as long as you can find nice clothes. It just wouldn't be fair to your body. It deserves more than just nice clothes.

Let me tell YOU something. If it was that easy, there woouldn't be overweight people. I quit smoking last February and have put on 50 lbs. I HATE it. I WANT to do something about it but it's hard when every time I turn around, I want a cigarette like a junkie needs a fix. So, I eat. This has been a real struggle and to hear someone minimize that struggle is hard to take.
Look, I'm really not trying to be mean but overweight people have a really hard time losing weight and it's a struggle thin people just don't get.
Oh, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to look your best even when you're overweight.

Carrie, I see that you'd just registered today and wanted to say to please not let one silly, offbeat post discourage you from posting. Not a very nice welcome, to be sure! Mad

But there ARE a great bunch of folks here that offer some terrific advice and new perspectives. I hope you'll keep posting!

Sorry I came off the way I did. I really just want to help. I really don't know how. I was just very concerned with the fact that you were accepting being overweight. I never said I thought it was easy. I know that it isn't easy. But putting obstacles in your way, like accepting it, will only make it more difficult.

My intentions are good, and I know I may come across as harsh. I lack the ability to write in a way that conveys a sense of compassion. I'm sorry. If I didn't care about your health, I wouldn't have said anything. The only love I know how to show is tough love. I will tell the cold hard truth. I just wanted to let you know that I do care. Again, if I didn't care, I wouldn't have said anything.

Keep in mind that I did say that everyone deserves to look nice. I was just very sad when you said that you have accepted being fat. No one should have to accept such a hard existence just because the media tells you it's okay.

Spicypumpkin, you made the same apology on the other thread when you saw (imagine!) that you had offended some folks. Haven't you learned anything? This is the point: people like Carrieillinois have the right to post about their particular style issues on this board without oh-so-well-meaning people with "slim, athletic builds" preaching at them. After you referred to MOST of the participants on WNTW as overweight, I decided then and there that your eyeballs were skewed and possibly something in your brain as well. You have the right to your opinion - you do NOT have the right to make this an inhospitable board, which is what you are doing. If you want to rant about overweight, please do it in a more appropriate venue.

I thank you all for your posts, after I posted this the Ginger episode came on! She is roughly my size, she's bigger by far in the hips and legs than I am, but it was an eye opening show for me.

I for one, would never wear a shirt tucked in or pants as tight as she was wearing. I do have some common sense, but I still would like to know what to do exactly with some of my own body issues.

Yes, I've accepted the fact that I'm fat, I've gotten over the fact that I'm fat, that doesn't mean that I'm overjoyed to be fat. Quite the opposite. In the course of the last 5 years I've lost 130 pounds, all by myself, no surgery and I'm STILL a size 26/28, so you can imagine what sizes I was wearing - in fact I had to have clothing made for me most of the time. I am conscious of the fact that it's not healthy and I am doing something about it, but in the meantime, I'd like to think that someone out there could help me look the best I can look until I turn into Kate Moss.

Thank you.

i am new to this community and posted a similar statement under the title of demographics. i see as many fashion nightmares on women who think that 'if it fits, i can wear it' as on the regular misses sized women as well. with manufacturers waking up to the marketing potential injunior plus and large sizes, someone should tell these women that spandex does not look appealing on them and belly shirts should cover, not reveal!

Carrieillnois, I completely agree with you. As a woman who is a size 16/18, I agree that their needs to be more women of size on that show. That's why I love Monique's Fat Chance show because she shows that regardless of how heavy a woman maybe; she is still beauty and can be fashionable as well. While I am advocate watcher of WNTW, I think S.C. would do a fablous job making over someone who is not what America percieves as being the right size. But FYI to all those who don't know that average size woman is a 14. I say love yourself and be who you are because no one else can be you but you Wink

Thank YOU for this post Carrie! You are on an amzing journey. A woman in my Weight Watchers group lost 170 punds (she is runner-up to most inspiring story in WW magazine), and I am awed and humbled by your story and hers. There's a saying: "Be kind, for everyone you meeet is fighting a great battle", and it's something for us all to take to heart.

I missed the Ginger episode. Did it provide you with some good guidance? If not, please don't hesitate to post again and ask. Sometimes, putting our collective heads together, we can come up with some good ideas!

can you post pictures here? I answered my own question down there.

Ginger helped me a little bit, but she and I don't have the same body type at all. But unless I get on the show LOL, noone is going to have the same body type as me. LOL

I added pictures below - don't be skeered.

Carrie, You look great! What a wonderful difference you've made in your life. It must have been very difficult to lose that much weight.

I don't see any problem with what your wearing in the picture. You look fine. I suppose you could always go with a tighter top and then a classic blazer over it instead.

Kudos Carrie!

I struggle with weight and diabetes. Early in 2006 I was a size 26 and now I am down to a 20/22 and feel I have hit a plateau. For awhile I was down to an 18 but life and stress intervened. I can relate to how you feel. Losing weight and keeping it off is harder than a normal sized person will ever know. And I use the term normal loosely because how many people have you actually met that truly love how they look?!

It is nice to come to this board and read that women and men of all sizes are asking for help. From what I have seen, most of the advice is given in a friendly and professional manner regardless of size. And regardless of my size, I like to look nice when I leave the house. Whether it is going to a PTA meeting, a nice restaurant or the grocery store.

Keep up the good work Carrie, you are an inspiration!

You are beautiful, Carrie. I think what you're wearing is fine, but it's kind of boxy. I'd like to see what you'd look like in a structured jacket-I'll bet you'd look at least a size thinner.

Tears welled up in my eyes after looking at your pictures. I am so happy for you and this comes from someone who has fought weight all my life. I've been thin and then I've been over 200 lbs. I know how hard it is and am sooo proud of you. You look great!
