I am sooo gladdd that there is another hair stylist. Nick cut everyone's hair too short and he didn't listen to what they wanted. Everyone's hair was "so damaged" that it had to be cut drastically. He cut the sexiness right out of the hair on most occasions and would not listen to what the client wanted. If they did not want all of their hair cut off, he should have shown them a way to manage their hair so it could grow out. If they actually refused, then he would have an attitude. I am so tired of seeing him cut everyone's hair short. Sorry Nick, but I couldn't take it anymore!
I am so glad that Nick is gone! I agree that he always cut hair short. As a woman with long hair, I never got any new ideas from him. Hopefully this will now change.
I am also so glad to see a new stylist on WNTW. Nick has always been my least favorite part as he doesn't listen to what anyone would like and he always chops as much hair off as he can. Long hair can be stylish also. I would have been crushed to go on the show and watch all of my hair end up on the floor. Styling tips for long hair would be much more helpful and comfortable for me.
Well I would do the makeover SOLELY for Nick's cut! Most of these people had crappy hair in the first place, it was NOT sexy and sexy hair is not necessarily long. Most women don't look particularly great with long hair, you notice the hair instead of the face, and most women WANT you to think they look pretty and sexy, not just their hair. Nick is a genius and TLC just lost my whole family by making this change. There are other stylists who might substitute, but Ted playing psychologist by making big eyes and asking "How do you FEEL??" is just pathetic. FAIL, HUGE FAIL!
nick was SOOOOO much better than ted. he sucks! and who uses a curling iron? the first chick hated her color and so he got scared and let bailey keep her chunks in her hair and gave her a greatclips haircut!

I think TLC did the show a huge diservice by replacing Nick. It also is not fair to Ted. Because of how this was handled, those who love Nick, will be a bit jaded towards Ted. Honestly, I watched WNTW to see what Nick would do and foe Carmindy's makeup tips. I know Nick will continue to have much success without TLC. And I wish Ted good luck as he has a sharp razor to replace.
Why do people insist that Ariel hated her color? Yes in the beginning, she didn't want the red hair, but in the end she ended up LOVING her new color and actually KEPT it after the show aired. This was revealed at the end of the show when S & C revisited her for an update.

If Ted is going to do well on the show he needs to step up his game. Some people DO need their hair cut off and they have no idea many times what WOULD look good on them. That should be the job of the stylist, not to pacify them and let them continue as they have with a few added curls. Give them a style Ted!!
I do not like Ted. He seems nervous, scared, unsure, and a hair stylist push over. He seems like he would like to be the ladies friend instead of a hair stylist.

as a newer poster I will not do the heated debate of Nick vs Ted. To me they are both good in their own way. I personally prefer Nick because I want a hairstylist that will tell me like it is. Teds cuts look great but honestly what woman who was on the show for being lazy (and I mean no disrepect because we all have those days!) and not into taking 3 hours to get a 'look' will work with a flat iron and or curling iron everyday? I have only me myself and I to worry about and I am not spending that much time on my hair. Nick took a more practacle approach to mothers and women on the go. Yes, there were haircuts I did not like (usually the women with curly hair. he did love to cut them short..yuck) but I think it is unfair to say he ONLY cut hair short. I watched TLC just the other day and saw several episodes where he left the hair long and just layered it. I even saw one episode with an African American lady whose hair he liked so much he left it alone. So far I have only seen Ted do longer cuts that frankly will take more time and effort than most people are willing to put in every day. But, maybe he will so a short hair cut soon. I hope so because I would love to see what he can really do. And to those that say Nick just did short cuts cause they are easy and you can have them out of the chair fast..again not true. My stylist takes longer and spends more time on my shorter precision cut than she does on my sisters longer hair. Short cuts are actually quite difficult especailly depending on the cut. I miss Nick, but I am not willing to slam Ted. He seems nice, I just wish he would be a little more assertive.
I believe Nick does a great job. I can't stand it when these women start crying about getting their hair cut. Come on! He actually creates a look for them that enhances their features. After you get some years on you, long hair looks stupid. I will never forget the one show where one woman went on and on about being a blonde, bomb shell and didn't want to lose that look. She was never a bomb shell, blonde or otherwise and the red hair color went with her skin color and gave her some oomph. The new guy is kind of boring if you ask me. I have never seen him create a cut that didn't improve the look of the sitter.
Here's my post from another Nick vs. Ted debate: Oh my gosh! I almost got off the couch and jumped for joy when I found out there was a replacement for Nick! I have been watching the show for YEARS and have seen many episodes multiple times. Although I liked Nick's sweet personality I HATED his hair styles! I would yell at the TV every time he did ANOTHER boring brown bob! That look is great on some people but he did this on 90% of the episodes-SERIOUSLY (just pay attention during reruns and you WILL notice a pattern!) He loves dark, short, straight, flat hair and he repeated it OVER AND OVER! I am not sold on the new guy yet-the first two episodes I saw he just used a curling iron to style the hair (but I just finished watching the episode with Lisa and her hair looked fabulous! -Go Ted!), which is great for special occasions, but who has time for this everyday? I don't know if he will be great on the show or not but as much as I like Nick's personality- I will definetly not miss his boring repeat hairstyles!
Nick was very much from the Vidal Sassoon school of hair styling: smooth and shiny as the ultimate hair style, but I'm not sold on Ted yet--I feel he's too timid with the MO's hair as if he's afraid of offending them somehow.
I did really like Nick and would have loved him to do my hair, but I'll withhold judgment of Ted for a couple more weeks even if my first impression is rather bland.
I have to agree with Quinny2 that I found Lisa's hair to be matronly and not fabulous.
I liked Nick's haircuts, for the most part, and think that Ted is too timid. Whose work one likes best is subjective, but I don't understand why we would expect the hair stylist to do what the contributors want, that's not the deal with the fashion issues, either. If the contributors knew how to have their hair cut/styled to best flatter themselves, they likely wouldn't be there to begin with. They aren't allowed to decide what fashion choices to make either, they are given rules for that, and have to abide by them, regardless of what they might prefer.
Just because they are attached to their hair choices, doesn't make them correct for a makeover. Besides, if they don't like what happens with their hair, they can do what ever they like with it back in their own worlds.
Expecting the hairstylist to do what they want is unreasonable, and not part of the deal.
Look, the deed is done...Nick's gone and whatever the reason, now it's Ted. I wasn't happy about it, but I'm really starting to come around to the "Why do we have to pit one against the other?" argument. If you brought in a third guy, a fourth guy, a woman, somebody would always think they could do the hair better.
I liked Nick's personality and his cuts, and while careful not to trot out the cliche, "he gave everybody a short cut!", it did seem long hair didn't survive as much with him. That said, he did great work for many years, so I applaud him, will remember him fondly, and wish him well.
I find Ted nervous (but getting less so) and pleasant enough. His chairside manner had seemed to lean more toward the MO than nick's, but with disa friday night he explained some things but then made it pretty clear he was gonna do what he wanted even if she had disagreed.
And, I gotta tell you, I think that was a FANTASTIC cut on disa! when he saw the tattoo, it was a great idea to incorporate it into the cut...and having disa able to take some hair and put it over her ears, or to then pull it back for two looks was inspired.
nick might have done one, or both of those things, but we'll never know. so, again, kudos to nick, and i'll also clap for ted for jobs well done!
I agree, that was a great haircut. I just liked it so much better in the chair, before it was re-styled or whatever. It had movement, and looked fantastic over her ears, edging onto her face, nice choppy bangs. Really dramatic for maybe a night time look, and framed her face well. Then, behind the ears, great for work. But later in the show, it looked way too curled under, and the bangs looked too short.
It didn't look like a hard style to do by one's self, but maybe I'm wrong.
Man, people are never happy! First we have to listen to YEARS of nothing but Nick bashing and now that he's gone everyone's coming out of the woodwork to demand that he come back. Where were you all when he was on the show? I thought his work was so-so, but so far Ted's gotten it right every time. And he seems like a nice enough guy, too. I don't get why people are bashing him.

I miss Nick and his sexy accent. Ted just does not have the personality for the show. Plus, most of the contributors have NOT liked thier hair after Ted has styled it. Where the heck is Nick???
Where are you getting this info from? So far, 5 of Ted's shows have aired. Out of the 5, only ONE (Teresa) didn't like the hair so much. His 1st MO--Ariel--at first didn't dig the color, but ended up LOVING it at the end.
How is 1 MO "most"?

I really don't care who is on. However, can we talk about tattoos!!? They are not fashion statements and should never be on part of the body that can be seen. Nothing worse than trying to dress up and having a tattoo poking out.

I completely agree! Tattoos peeking out of clothes or shoes just looks bad! I hate to see an MO all dressed up with a tattoo sticking out on her neck, bustline, leg, etc...it just ruins the "good look"!
Nick all the way! Fast, flattering, perfect for the face! Yeah I want long hair and a different style and any cheap cutter/stylist will do it. It takes a real pro to tell you what looks best on you, not what you want!
Well only 3 out of 5 who liked their hair does not sound like a very good average to me. Especially when the very FIRST one aired showed a somewhat dissatisfied contributor.
Sorry, Nick but I believe that your ego got in the way of the show. You did what you wanted without considering their feeling or their wants about the length of their hair. You acted like a brat when they would not agree with you. You need to do some training and keep up with the times. Just because you own a salon does not mean you are the best.
Have watched many a show and miss Nick dreadfully. Agree with several posters, most women (unless very young) do not look good at all with long stringy hair. Nick is the expert and should be heeded. New guy is nice-too nice. I need Nick back to tell it like it is and do his very expert thing.

I've got mixed feelings on this. There are tattoos that are extremely beautiful and symbolic, but at the same time, some tattoos can be extremely trashy. I remember seeing a guy once who worked for my father. He had a tattoo of a naked woman on his arms! :0 Inappropiate!
And then there is a such thing as too many tattoos. Sleeves are unattractive on a beautiful, feminine woman . And face tattoos are a big no-no imo.

I agree. For example, Teresa's Hamsa tattoo was tasteful. Her boy/girl tattoo going around her leg, OTOH...

I've been watching WNTW for a long time and my favorite part was the hair MO. Since Ted has arrived I haven't watched much. What I've seen I don't care for much. Nick ws so much fun.

StarSignLeo, What show were you watching? Nick did his best with what he had to work with. Most of these MO's hair is frizzy, broken and already shoulder length. There's not much else he could do with their hair. He took the time to explain to them what and why he did what he did. He never FORCED his opinion on anyone. He was a master of color and style. Nick will be missed! JMO
Difficult question. Maybe a combination of the two? I loved Nick's personality, he seemed really sweet and funny... but I can't deny the fact that he kind of did the same to most people's hair. I'm leaving the question open and hoping Ted can open himself up a little and relax a bit more. But I do miss Nick!
I agree with piquant. I would chose Nick to be honest and tell me what's wrong with my hair. I would choose Ted to listen to exactly what I want. I also think that Nick was better at coloring hair than Ted. But he did give most people the same haircut. Hmm....
I was blown away that they took Nick off the show. If I would have known there was Nick bashing going on in these forums, I would have put in my two cents months ago. I loved Nick and I thought he was a genius. There were only a couple of cuts that I thought weren't very flattering. The people on the show don't know how to dress or wear their hair to make themselves look good or they wouldn't be on the show in the first place. I had thought about going on the show but I won't do it without the benefit of Nick's expertise with my hair. The show was lucky to have someone of Nick's caliber to deal with terrible heads of hair. Ted isn't going to be able to tell people what they need and will more listen to what they want... a "yes" man. Please bring Nick back!!!!!
I quit watching the new shows after Ted's second attempt. He is boring and does very little to change the hair styles. I'd also like to add that anyone who thinks all of Nick's styles were the same weren't paying close attention!
I think Ted is a definite improvement. It was painful to watch Nick sometimes. He seemed so insensitive. He was a fan of the heavy bang as well, and I personally don't like it (noticed all the people who got those ended up pushing them apart). I'm sure Nick is super tallented, but I feel better about watching Ted. I think his cuts are every bit as good as Nick's, so great addition to the show!
I think a hairstylist has to work with what they have - not just any damage that might exist, but hair texture as well. And honestly when it gets down to it there aren't THAT many different types of cut to deal with, especially as the hair gets longer. Sometimes I like what Nick does, and sometimes I think "ew, no" but overall I liked his attitude and personality MUCH more than Ted. Ted is just creeeeepy to me!!
Nick cut cut cut - that's all he knows. He also used too many "trendy" styles when he should have listened to his client. Some of us don't want bangs that are always in our eyes. Looks like Stacy goes to a different sytlist.
Sorry Ted but you put me to sleep and then I miss the final looks! Nick always seemed to have fun and seem to try to make the style something easy to do...wash and wear or take the time to style...
I miss my Nick...I want my Nick...I need my Nick....
