At times like this, Stacy and Clinton remind me of a brother and sister who are really very fond of each other, but like to try to get each other's blood pressure up. "Mom; he said I'm old! MOOM; make him stop!" "But you are! "Am not!" "Are, too!"

I turned away at this point, but I thought I heard Clinton say, "I wore this on Season 1! It's probably best left in repeats!" A funny, self-deprecating remark...but I was just curious about whether he was talking about himself, or the other guy who was on the first season. I'm assuming he was talking about himself, and HIS first season. But having only patched in to WNTW about three years ago, I'm not familiar with the early years.
Ahhhh Haaaa Haaaa! I saw this one too and I know the exact shirt she's talking about! I think there's a picture of him out there somewhere on the web where he's wearing it..... Anyway, the shirt she had was def. the exact same colors as his. Hers were small yellow daisy like flowers with yellow petals and no stems on a white background with either a lavender or a light blue stripe every half inch or so - which was exactly like one he owns except his "flowers" were the tiniest bit larger and they weren't flowers, they were 4 perfectly round yellow circles where one circle was placed perfectly on top, one on the bottom and one on either side and the pattern never differed from that. Her daisies were kind of every which way but always the same size and always in a perfect line and in between the thin blue stripes like his. - I remember all this because I think Clinton had a yellow cashmere sweater over it in one episode and so few people look good in yellow - Anyway, I don't remember the reference to season one but I do definitely remember him saying "it's better left in repeats" because I thought heh, he just insulted himself, and I wondered if he meant to do that or if he was just trying to tell her that hers wasn't so good. His was Etro nice - hers was WalMart not so nice. But yeah, it definitely was in reference to his clothing, not the hosts before him. Maybe I can find that picture somewhere....

This was an episode, recently repeated, which I like because it's not only got a few "funnies" in it but it also is a great example of how you can tell by their tone of voice during some of the conversations between S & C that they seem to "forget" that they're on camera and it sounds just like 2 friends talking, like some of the things I overhear on the subway so many times a week.
I can't remember the MO's name (rarely ever do) but they filmed this episode in her and her husbands house for some reason. They were going through her closet and Stac found a large white knit sweater and asked "what's this..." holding it up for all the world to see. The MO explained that is was made by her grandmother and had sentimental value and blah blah blah - at which point Stacy began to explain that it was ok to keep certain things like that "..but in a box or hope chest.." is what Clinton said... - until.... Stacy went ahead and read the sewed in label on the sweater... - Stacy in a plain, regular voice says: "Oh there's a label in here, it says hand sewn by Margaret Johnson,(fictitious, can't remember the real name)your grandmothers name is Margaret?" MO: No. It's Emily Smith (again, fictitious). Stacy glancing at Clinton for confirmation as he is now checking and reading the label too. MO: "My grandmothers name is Emily Smith,..Emily (kind of laughing nervously)... she said..she told me she made that..." Clinton:"...mm says it's Margaret Joh..." trailing off "mm..." nodding... Clinton and Stacey exchange nervous glances for a few awkward seconds - all the while Clinton just keeps that permanent smirk on his face - as Stacy somewhat perplexed says... Stacy: Uh..(pause) -awkward awkward awkward - well...I think she's just been outted..." Clinton with a small chuckle rescues the moment by saying: "Yeah well the point is, it needs to be put away..." *****////**** Inside my head I was all - OH NO THEY DI'NT!!!! ...complete with head jerk and finger snaps.
To tell you the truth, I don't remember who exactly said the "outted" bit because of the awkwardness of the whole thing which only took a few seconds in reality from start to finish. It was harsh because the MO was so really very sweet with a quite demeanor, and when S & C were talking through the whole exchange it was always in a regular conversational voice, genuine with no excessive humor involved, but with tons of drama from the awkwardness which is exactly like the conversations that can be overheard anywhere every single day - with one exception - They're not played out on national- oh and Canadian - TV for all the world to witness that some sweet women was lied to by her grandmother for several years and all she had to do to avoid this extraordinary humiliation was read the damn label!!!!!
LOL!
Seriously, how nightmarish does life half to be that Clinton and Stacy can come to your house and "out" your grandma for the hellacious liar that she is????? LOL!
That cracks me up but in a sad kinda way. What's the word? ....Poignant???

I had a bunch of episodes saved on tivo and watched Lynn's last night. I think she was from Jersey. She had the Jersey accent my husband and I love! "Freakin" was THE word on that show, soo funny. Clinton even said "Lynn come out of the freakin dressing room" with the Jersey/brooklyn accent.
On one episode a while back when they were going through the MO's clothes Clinton pulled out a jacket with a fur collar and asked the MO "Do you notice that your dog humps you more when you wear this?"
Hilarious! She took it in good fun.

I really enjoyed the playfulness of Clinton pretending like he was going to announce Stacy's age. That was definitely a brother/sister or good friends moment. I almost wish he'd carried it a bit farther, just enough to get her to "smack" him...but Clinton knew exactly how far he could go -- and he was never going to really give out her age!
Also, Kitson, that was an interesting S and C moment with the sweater, but I took it that the MO was busted for trying to say her grandmother knit the sweater so the MO could keep it (sentimental value), when S and C then discovered the label proving that was not the truth. I could be wrong, though. In any event, I definitely agree that S and C can sometimes have conversations like they forget, or don't care, that they're on camera!

I absolutely loved the beginning of the Mayim episode, when Stacy and Clinton were doing the campy secret agent thing. They looked great in their getups, complete with dark glasses. But what was hilarious was when they're inside the van, and then they get word that Mayim has been sighted. Stacy starts shouting out about five different commands, taking charge like it was an actual stakeout! Too funny!

this is less a "best lines" entry and more of a "campy humor" entry, but i loved it on tonight's show (06-05-09, chelsea the roller derby girl) when clinton said something that chelsea didn't like, and she fake elbowed him.
clinton pretended she'd hit him in the nose and played it for all it was worth
i haven't seen such accomplished acting since maureen mccormick as marcia brady was hit in the face by the football and famously shouted, "ooh, my nose!"
----
also, did anyone notice that in one of the cutaways, chelsea referred to them as "S and C"? clinton used the "S and C" terminology recently, too. I think it's officially a part of the pop culture lexicon now!

I had a weird moment (actually several, but this one excelled) while watching Chelsea's episode last night (6/5/09): Chelsea was in the 360 mirror, wearing a striped button-front shirt, gray slacks and what looked for all the world like a man's [black] belt. My immediate thought was, "Yikes; it looks like she's cross-dressing!" Chelsea offered, "I would wear this outfit to a job interview, or to church ..." Stacy, as if reading my mind, piped up, "I can't believe you'd be allowed to go to church in drag!" It was a bizzare but funny moment.

On Last nights episode Stacy and Clintons nicknames were funny Stacy was H*ll on Heels and Clinton was Argyle Assassian

That was a fun show, perfect for "TLC Summer" (TM). Clinton pretending Chelsea clocked him, and then Chelsea faking that Stacy got her with the safety pin, etc. She was free-spirited (and has a heart of gold for what she did for her grandparents) and the makeover turned out great.
And I agree, the roller derby names were inspired. What do we make of what happened at the end of the reveal, when S was showing off her No. 8 (I think) Hell on Heels shirt and Clinton displayed his No. 10 1/2 Argyle Assassin shirt? C said something like, "I don't know why I got that number" and S replied, "Oh Clinton, yes you do!"
Was that as randy a reference as I think it was?

I absolutely loved Chelsea's episode. She had a great sense of humor throughout the whole thing. I thought it was funny when after Nick revealed her new haircut to her the first thing she said was "Oh I can't wait till it grows out. I'm joking!" I also thought it was funny when during the clothes trashing she hip checked Clinton when he said something (I can't remember what).

I got this rather wrong! I saw this moment in a repeat this week, and the subject's name was Melanie. Melanie had this strange metallic purple cape. In prelude to tossing the cape, Stacy draped it around herself and said, "I feel like a super hero; I feel like I can deflect bullets! I feel impenetrable ..." At the word "impenetrable," Clinton doubles over and emits this strange noise that's a combination of a cough, a gasp, and a laugh. Fortunately, I taped that episode, so I could replay that moment.

You certainly had the gist of it in your first post, CNo64, and I also enjoyed clinton laughing at stacy's superhero/impenetrable comment.
I also think you described perfectly the sound clinton made: cough/gasp/laugh. Whenever he does that, something priceless has happened. We all knew what S meant, but her good friend C took it to a funnier place!
Just another example of their being a magical combination. To the list of such great duos as Barbie and Ken, Batman and Robin, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and peanut butter and jelly, add Stacy and Clinton!

**Me here: At once, when I heard that 'church' line, my bottom lip fell to the floor even though I was standing up! Well, Stacy, as a transwoman (i.e. male-to-female transgender), I have gone to a wonderful Episcopal church that does allow me to attend en femme (or as Stacy puts it "I didn't know you were allowed to go to church in drag."). So, although I was floored at Stacy's tounge-in-cheek remark, since I love this show and the dynamic duo, I was absolutely having fun with the 'Chelsea' episode and WNTW overall. So, thanks for not only the wonderful show-by-show fashion advice, but also for a little light-hearted humour that I can call my own.

06-26-09 Kimberly
Did Stacy say, "Look out, cookout!" when Kimberly came out for the first reveal tonight? That's what I thought I heard, and I have to say it caused me to laugh out loud.
I thought it was tres cute, a great addition to "Shut up!", "Shut the front door!" and her other pet phrases.
Also in this episode, I loved it how the cheerleaders at Kimberly's school gave a "Shut up" cheer, and also when Clinton had kind of a mock anxiety/exasperation attack when Kimberly picked a denim top to go with a denim skirt.
WNTW...so much fun!

In Kimberly's episode Stacy is talking about how a jacket or shirt shouldn't be so long that it covers the crotch. Then she had to clarify that the "actual crotch" SHOULD be covered but the crotch of the pants should show. I thought that was funny as H3LL!
Also in Irene's episode, when they show her in the secret footage with just her bare shoulders, bare arms and bare legs peeking out around her cubicle partition, Stacy exclaims "You look NUDE!"
My favorite Clinton line would have to be in Rita's episode. He holds up her "Endangered Feces" shirt and says nobody should be thinking of s--t when they look at your chest. Very true.

That "covering the crotch" thing was priceless, Zorro.
BTW, I saw a rerun of the Mayim episode, and the secret agent bit was even funnier the second time around.
First of all, Clinton had a doughnut, and I don't know how he did it (practice?), but he was talking while eating the doughnut SO loudly! He's usually so cultured I didn't think this would be possible!
Then, I heard again the actual wildly shouted directives of Secret Agent London (well, paraphrased): "The flower (Blossom) is in the basket!" "Let's roll!" "Go!" "GO!!!!!!"
S and C do camp so well, it never fails to bring a smile. Thank you, S and C, and thank you WNTW!

I'm recapping the "Jessie" ep. and when Stacy blurted in the '360' segment, "This looks like Dolly Parton and Stevie Nicks had a baby and they threw this up," I practically cracked a rib laughing so hard.

One of my favorites comes from the episode devoted to Sheaffer, the young woman who was inclined to purloin her grandmother's slips: At one point, Sheaffer stands in the 360 mirror, wearing her grandmother's slips layered three deep, accompanied by black leggings and a black cardigan. Stacy squawks, " THIS IS LIKE 'THE WALTONS MEET MADONNA!'" Hee, hee! I'd program my VCR for THAT Waltons special!

07/17/09 Tamara from Atlanta
(loosely translated)
Clinton holds up some short skirt or something from Tamara's wardrobe and he's going to make a comment about how trampy it looks:
Clinton: "You know, I don't watch a lot of porn, but ... "
Stacy: "Oh Clinton, who are you trying to kid?!"
----
Also, in the Natalie the firefighter episode, Natalie is constantly making references to being a superhero. Then she puts on a dress that's a bit, well, out there. Clinton says, "She looks like Freakazoid Girl"!

07/31/09 Bailey
God bless Stacy and Clinton for the way they've dealt with a lot of MOs this summer who have had various issues.
Tonight they were trying to get Bailey, who'd dropped a lot of weight, to try to see that she looked good even though she was still seeing imperfections.
When Stacy said, "Listen, my boobs are down to my knees" I laughed so loudly that when Clinton then said, "Yeah, and my ass is an inch lower than it was last season", I didn't hear WHAT of Clinton's had dropped an inch lower and I had to watch the repeat at 11!
Great fun! I LOVE Stacy and Clinton and What Not To Wear!

I caught a re-run of the "Lisa the teacher" episode today, and there were some great moments in it. Early in the show, Lisa's husband complains that his wife's wardrobe is too "vanilla." Stacy says, "Yeah, why would you want to be all vanilla when you can be rooti-tooti frooti ..." Clinton, feigning defensiveneness: "Don't look at me when you say 'tooti-frooti!" It's hilarious, because Clinton *is* mildly tooti-frooti at times, and undoubtedly knows it. Later, when Stacy and Clinton are watching Lisa shopping for shoes, Lisa says, "I know Stacy is always trying to get people to wear pointed toes, but I don't like them; I think they make you look kind of witchy." Stacy pulls up one of her own pointed-toe clad feet, and says, "I don't look like a witch, do I?" Clinton sits there smirking, in utter silence. Stacy: "Do I?" She finally smacks Clinton, who has still not said a word.

Clinton almost unintentionally committed homicide by laughter yesterday evening, when I was watching a WNTW episode I'd taped earlier. The episode featured Elizabeth, the teacher from Dallas who favored long skirts and "harem" pants. When asked by Stacy and Clinton why she favored such styles, Elizabeth replied, " They feel so good! Clinton, haven't you ever had something long and silky wrap around your legs?" At that, Clinton rolls his eyes, and Stacy says, with mock sternness, "Kelly, leave that one alone!" The nearly lethally funny part, however, comes a bit later, when Stacy and Clinton are going through Elizabeth's clothes. Clinton eagerly grabs a pair of enormous flowing tapestry print harem pants, and climbs into them, saying kind of under his breath, "I want to do a weight-loss commercial!" When I heard those words, I whimpered, "Oh, noo!" because I knew my bladder control was about to be seriously threatened. Sure enough, Clinton climbs into the pants, holds the waist out as far away from him as possible, arranges his face in the requisite goofily triumphant expression, and crows, " I LOST FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS!" Then he lets go of the waist so that they acxtually make contact with him, and shouts, "Before!" Then he pulls the pants way out again: "After!"
Repeat several times. I almost ruptured my spleen, and expect to be giggling for days to come.

I recently caught an episode featuring a high school girl named Erinn, I think. In her secret footage, Erinn was shown wearing a top that was sort of gathered up and knotted in the back. Clinton quipped, "That's what I've always pictured the back of Joan Rivers' head looking like!" That was snicker-worthy, but it got better. Erinn said blankly, "Who's Joan Rivers?" Clinton literally reeled, groaning, "I am SOO OLD !" I know the feeling, Clinton, but you're still younger than I!"
