I cannot believe Stacy and Clinton! They get people to give up all of their clothes along with their identities in order to make them look like everyone else. I saw someone who wore clothing that contained fairy wings (many of you may remember this episode). Before the makeover, she was bubbly, funny, and a little eccentric. She had real charm. After the makeover, her energy had dropped. She smiled, but the twinkle in her eye and identity were gone. It was so sad. I watch the show to see how people resist this invasion of identity. Out of all the many episodes I have seen, Stacy and Clinton berate people and make fun of them because they look different. Going back to the afore mentioned person, she cried in front of the cold hearted Stacy and Clinton. At that point, Stacy and Clinton consoled her so she would stop crying just so they could berate her all the more. Additionally, Stacy and Clinton only make women look between the ages of 38 and 45, no matter their original age. Many people in their twenties look in their late thirties after Stacy and Clinton are done with them. I guess the only people on this show should be elderly in order to look better. I have only seen one episode with a man as the person being made over and that is probably because Stacy and Clinton would only put them in Polos and Suites. That would make the show so boring that they would most definitely be canceled. If they ever got someone who had major issues wearing mainstream types of clothing, they would really be stumped. I would love to see that.

I remember one show where they had a very nice looking woman about 30 who was a waitress in a club. Stacey railed on her for looking too young When they finished she didn't loon 25, she looke 35 or 40 and they were happy. how many women want to look older than they are? Maybe a teen trying to get into a bar without being carded. I hate to say so but the pair do seem to want everyone to look 40.

Are you and I watching the same show? I have yet to see them make someone in her twenties look older than her age. I have seen them make someone in her twenties look like she was in her twenties rather than someone trying to look like she was still 14.

Well said, Anners, and may I add they have taken women in their 40's trying to look young (who really looked older) and stripped years off their look! Who wouldn't LOVE that?? Clinton says this all the time, "20 always wins!" He also says, "If you are 20 in this dress, styled correctly you cannot look like an old frump!" He is spot on. In my 20's I DID look like an old woman - egads it was horrible, and I assure you there was no Styling involved. It goes back to we are all individual, yet the retailers are selling what is currently in fashion. They are using this chance to convey wardrobe staples where it is best to invest your money and style them in an age appropriate fashion then throw in trendy items which vary greatly based on age, size, body type, etc. I've been home a lot due to health reasons over the last year, so I probably watch way too much. I used to think the same things being said, but pay close attention, and you will see what I am saying is correct. These women who go on the show - it isn't just about them getting $5k to shop in NYC with S&C; the show is about teaching its audience fashion do's & don'ts in an entertaining way. IMO, they have found an excellent equation, but then nobody asked me.

Good job, southernflirt! I work and go to school, but I watch reruns of the show constantly (so much that my boyfriend is starting to sound like them). If you don't watch the show closely, it will definitely sound like they give every female the same rules. Well duh! Every female I have ever met wants the hour-glass shape. Stacy and Clinton give these women the rules to create that hour-glass shape. The general rules do not change, but the outfits definitely do!

Agrizzly certainly brings up some good points though. I kind of wish I had the confidence to pull off fairy wings! You're right; she was just being a bit eccentric and happy-go-lucky with her wardrobe, yet S&C made her feel like she was mentally ill because of it. I guess they were just trying to help her career-wise, though. I don't remember what fairy girl did for a living, but I think it was something that required more professional attire than what she owned before the show. Maybe they could have just told her "fairy wings are for parties and nights out only" rather than putting the kibosh on them absolutely? Other than that, I do agree that the wardrobe selections for the participants tend to get a little homogeneous. I generally think that the new wardrobes improve the look of participants and make them look more sophisticated/feminine rather than older. I do agree that it can take some of the individualism away but I honestly think S&C (or the stylists or whoever does the actual work involved) make a real effort to incorporate the participants' lifestyles and personalities into their new attire.

Sunny was as cute as could be pre AND post MO, and if it was ONE pair of fairy wings, for Halloween or a special occasion, I could buy it...but she had at least FIVE PAIRS! Did S + C take a few shots at her for the wings? Yes, but it's such an easy thing to have some gentle fun with, and I believe they DID incorporate her personality into her outfits. There aren't too many women who could pull off that green dress she had on at the end! WOW! If this young lady wants to be an actress, she can't go around wearing glitter, and fairy wings, and tiaras...it screams "immature" at best and "screw loose" at worst (although I don't think she was at that point). The outfits S + C put her in were perfect for an up-and-coming actress, and they were age appropriate, as well. I mean, compare the dress she had on in the 360 that looked like it was for a 12-year-old, vs. that green dress! I half expect to see Sunny's name in movie credits in the near future. Way to go, S + C!

Sunny and Erin were 2 of the most fantastic makeovers I've seen, and both of them were that "wackadoo" over-the-top costume-y extreme. Sunny's fiance said she would buy Halloween costumes and wear them as daytime clothes. Stacey DID allow her to keep one pair of the wings, BTW.
If you see those episodes, watch when those ladies STRUT in for the reveals. If their spirits were broken, they hid it well--LOL!

Sorry, but the woman looked ridiculous. If I saw her walking down the street in that ruffled thing or those fairy wings, I would think she was a crazy person. Fairy wings and tiaras are not for grown women, they are for little girls and women having trouble transitioning in their lives. Individuality is one thing, customes are another. And she was so happy about her makeover experience, I don't see how they crushed her spirit. Did you see some of those bright patterned dresses she picked out in day one? I could never have the confidence to pull those things off. Now she looks confident and fashionable.

For goodness sake, she's not Santa Claus. Twinkle in her eye, eccentric, bubbly - I'm sure she could be all of those things without strapping cardboard to her back. The fairy wings were for her, as with so many participants in the show, a costume. By their very nature costumes don't overtly tell people who we are, but who we'd like to be. Covertly they let others know that we are NOT comfortable in our own selves and they encourage predators and other unhealthy relationships to flourish in our lives. Stacy and Clinton help people become comfortable with who they are right now, and show people like fairy-lady what is impeding them from living the life they would like to live. Perhaps her lack of effervescence was due to a sudden dose of self-insight. Sometimes it takes a bit to become comfortable with that. It's up to her to decide that she can choose to be bubbly, funny and charming without screaming "I am irresponsible" to the world. I mean, picture it...you are on the operating table....in comes the surgeon...he/she is wearing fairy wings. Or your financial advisor comes out of his office with your portfolio in his hand and a pair of glitter-wings strapped to his back. I won't even talk about what I'd do if it were my airline pilot...:-)
