I have watched this show for years, but just got in on the chating. Is it just me, or has anyone noticed all the health issues? His legs look like they are slowly giving out, now his spine? Does anyone in his family care? I think if he dropped in the middle of the floor he would be yelled at by Amy for being in the way, especially in the kitchen. Then Zack would second it. I thought it was great watching Matt and Jeremy ski and snowboard. I think deep down Matt knows he will not be able to do the things everyone in his family are doing for much longer. Amy doesn't care if he can tag along on her planned vacations or not. He's just not included. Wake up Amy and kids, will you be there for him after his surgery? What if it goes the wrong way? Matt is the one keeping the farm running. Good luck trying to take over Amy, between all the yelling and critisizing I doubt you'd be much help.

I agree with you. The family doesn't seem to be too concerned about Matt's health issues. It's like they're waiting for something to happen before they believe it will! And I'm proud of Matt for doing the things he's doing, even though he shouldn't (Skiing). That spine ain't nothing to mess with.
I have metastatic Breast cancer. It is now in my bones (spine). That is some kind of pain. Of course no surgery will cure me. Nothing will. But I try to do everything while I still can, cause I know it is only going to get worse. So go Matt - enjoy doing those things while you can!

Matt's health is something that I think has never really been talked about at any great length, other than the rolling of the eyes from Amy any time that Matt is not feeling well. His legs look twisted, the diabetes (which in itself have so many complications, my mom passed away from this disease), the nerve pain in his shoulder and of course the problems with his spine. I really don't know why this isn't taken into consideration with so many of the problems that the family is experiencing.

I also wonder even if Matt had forgotten that Amy had a speaking engagement, why not just move on and let the rest of the family continue the trip. It wasn't done maliciously, it was just so sad it became so ugly and tense.

I disagree. Matt's health has been the focus of several shows. Now it was the focus of the first episode of the season.

He said in the last episode that her feels a sense of urgency to do all the trips and activities before he is no longer able.

His sleep apnea was addressed, along with his diabetes. I noticed when he was snoring on the boat....not pleasant...that he wasn't wearing his mask for that. Guess he meant it when he said "I don't wanna do this..I'm gonna hire somebody". Smile

I posted my thought on this subject, but I had a trigger word (?) that kept it from posting. I can't imagine what it was (the word). So let me try again, and leave out the only thing it could have been.
I really enjoyed seeing Matt skiing like he was. I don't blame Matt at all for doing the things he is doing, while he is still able. The spine is nothing to mess with. I know because I have Cancer (spread from another body part qhich happens to alot of women) to my bones and 90% of my pain is in my spine. And it's hard just to get out of bed in the mornings, let alone do too much physical stuff. So while Matt is able, because like me, he probably won't be getting any better.
