And a toast to Korkie for starting this thread! Well, it has been two smoke-free days now. Still have those awful cravings, every hour or so, and I try to think or do something else. But I don't want to bore the non-smokers, so I'll change the topic. Hey, Janelle started a Thanksgiving thread that I think everyone should respond to if you haven't already. I'm a little nosy and would like to read everyone's posts. Ho-hum. A dull Friday evening in the Southern PA burrow. Waiting for Monday when I go Thanksgiving shopping and a party that night. See ya all later.

Mmm mmm, Kescha, Chocolate French Silk Pie! I'm gonna hog up the biggest piece . Josna, the name means moonlight in Bengali. It's my mother's name. The o is long, so it's like joesna with a j at the end. The j is the first initial of my last name.

Chocolate!!! How did you know Kescha!!!! hide the pie or there won't be much left Will have to do more belly dance practice today after that, but worth every chocolatey bite!! My instructor has a beautiful egyptian motif tatoo down the middle of her abdomen which looks awesome when she does her belly rolls (my belly rolls well, are just rolls hanging on the belly - but I'm working on it!) I'm thinking maybe a meerkat with african desert embelishments (however it's spelled) for me. Congrats Josnaj (love you name too) - keep working at it. i watched smoking kill my dad so no desire for me. maybe you should sign up for a group exercise/dance class. Lots of support there too and complex moves to take your mind off it. Oops, times up AGAIN! They need to increase the daily time here to 2 hrs. Paws wiggling to all! Hi Korkie

Hi everybody.
Tasha, if you have a guardian angel, you are blessed. It sounds like things are getting better for you.
Josnaj, congrats on two days. Its hard, but all that's worth doing always is.
Kescha, who ate all the French Silk? I swear it wasn't me.
There's a little pie shop, Mama Joe's, and she makes the best pumpkin cheese pie. I'll pick up a couple in time for the holiday.
Meergato, tattoos can be cool. Although you can wait a few years. As it turns out all my stretch marks have begun to merge, so I'm starting to look a little like Tommy Lee. LOL
Have a good evening.

Just wanted to drop in and say hi to everyone. I did my Thanksgiving Day shopping today and I am good to go for all that cooking I have to do. I posted some Turkey Tips in The Pronking Gourmet thread in case anyone needs help.
I think I'm on my fifth day of non-smoking and I feel alot better now. Fewer cravings but I still miss it. It really is one of the hardest habits ever to give up. Must not give into temptation...must not...

Howdy everyone! Josnaj, thanks for telling me how your name is pronouced. Five days, way to go! Hang in there sister! I too did my shoping today, and I think Iam ready. Iam sure I will have to get one or two last minute things.
Meergato, I always wanted a tat, but it has to look good and be in color, so your talking lots of money. LOL
Krazolkatlady, if you look like Tommy Lee, then I look like Pamala Anderson! Hahaha.
Tasha Mai Mai, thats awesome that you have a guardian angel! I bet alot of people do.
Korkie, where you at woman? Dont make me get lost in the corn again looking for you! Did you even get a piece of my pie? I might just have a slice saved for you, better come and get it!

Tatoos? Does anyone remember the time during Season 3 when a fellow 'kat posted her meerkat tatoo in this forum? I think it was on her back side, near her hip. It was quite beautiful. Alas, I don't have the courage to get one myself, but it would definitely be a meerkat, probably Mozart.
Yes, Hildy and Kescha you're pronouncing my name right. Joesna-jay. I should have chosen a hipper name like Hepkat, Kat-n-kaboodle or even Stinkerbell, but I was so eager to join the forum back in Season 3 that I used a part of my old e-mail address. I do remember one of the pups calling me "Jossie," back in Season 3, which I thought was very cute.
We picked up our fresh turkey today at the local farm-store. A beautiful 25 pounder. As it turns out, my mother invited company-a young couple and their little son-over for Thanksgiving dinner. But that's okay since there will be plenty of food and more people should liven things up.
Tasha, what exactly does your guardian angel do to you? Just curious. I hope it's not too scary, though.
Whoo-hoo, two more days until I stuff my face!

Korkie, hope you are doing well. You haven't posted in a few days.
Josnaj, that is a pretty name. Pretty meaning too. Congrats on the smoking too, good job.
kescha, I have to do my shopping after work today. I get to make the Sweet Potato Casserole. Not one of my faves, but that's what my dad wants, and a Pumpkin pie, lord knows the other side of the family wont bring one. Don't want to brave that last minute crowd tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving all just in case the internet goes on the fritz at the library burrow tomorrow. The burrow & I are off Thurs & Fri so no contact with the outside world. Kinda a Twin Peaks feeling.... Love4Meerkats has a beautiful tatoo of Flower done by someone in her town known for animal tatoos (& near to my mom's place in S CA). That may have been hers on the forum. I'm hoping the dancing keeps those stretch marks at bay so my meerkat won't resemble, what'd you say Hildy, a turnip?? You all crack me up. Since it's just me & the meowers, I'm going for Trader Joe's langostino (spell check???) tails & baked potato & one of their yummy deserts unless I find my favorite - pumpkin cheesecake . Will need to do alot of belly rolling to work that off! Your dinners sound wonderful & I'll have my big feast at Christmas. Gotta print the pronkin gourmet pages for other ideas. Ran myself outta time again watching cute videos. Very frosty paws waving at everyone!! Eat lots of turkey and enjoy

Hi all. Korkie, are you being a band groupie again?
Josnaj, you are making me hungry. I know we are having turkey, and I know there will be pies, but after that I have no idea what my girls will treat me to. I do know I have to make the gravy. None of them has ever learned how.
Meergato, I can just see the pilgrims putting down their shotguns, giving the turkeys amnesty, and heading to the shore for a lobster boil. And, eat your heart out, I was eating pumpkin cheescake while I was reading your post.
Titus, sweet potato casserole sounds great to me as long as it is not icky sweet. My niece puts pancake syrup all over it and I always have to pass on it. My favorite is the nasty, back-in-the-day green bean casserole. Just like Mom used to make. LOL
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving day.

HAPPY TURKEY DAY KORKIE.
KOKL, I don't really like sweet potato casserole, but that's what my dad wants so, I'm going to make it for him. I can't do the icky sweet either so I cut down on the sugar.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving if I don't make it around tomorrow

Korkie, how are your preparations going? You should see my kitchen; looks like a war zone. Well I am taking a little break, my slinky shekats. I made a breakfast casserole that we are having for dinner(steak, eggs, cheese, which I'll post later on the recipe thread). And I made Chocolate Pots de Creme for tomorrow's dessert. Should complement the Dulche de Leche Cheesecake, that I had bought from the Cheesecake Factory earlier. I still have the cranberries and candied sweet potatoes to do for today. Tomorrow, the heavy-duty stuff. As it turns out, we are not having company --a little miscommunication between me and Mom. We are going to have leftovers for quite some time. But leftovers are the best part, I think. So I hope everyone has a wonderful day today and tomorrow, of course, but I'll be back on tomorrow during one of my breaks.

However you celebrate your day, have a Hip-N-Happening Thanksgiving! Indulge today and count your blessings.
Beautiful weather here today, slightly cloudy but no rain. Temperature should reach into the 40s. So now, gotta run and mix up some corn casserole. We are having dinner at six.

Hope everyone had a great day yesterday! Ours was a bit subdued because my sister and her family couldn't be here yesterday, and boy, did we have plenty of leftovers. I'm inviting you all to help eat up those leftovers! Come on now, don't be shy! Well, it is Black Friday and we are steering clear of the mobs at the malls. Probably couldn't find parking anyways. About half of my neighbors put up their Christmas lights and outdoor decorations yesterday, taking advantage of the delightful weather. I'm really catching the holiday spirit and will probably put up my tree this Sunday. My friend already put her tree up two weeks ago--a glorious nine footer! We, however, only have a seven and a half footer, but hey, works for us. I can't wait to deck these halls! So everyone have a safe and wonderful holiday. Hugs and cuddles to all of you!

Korkie, sounds like you have a great support system. I hope everything is okay. I forgot to thank everyone for their support in my kicking the nicotine habit. It gets easier everyday, but when your friends know that you are trying to quit, you feel less inclined to cheat. Still, though, I had some powerful cravings after dinner yesterday. It is definitely a process. So thank you all for listening to me whine about it.

Hey Josnaj, I would love to take you up on some of those leftovers, save me some cooking! More then happy to lend support and listen to your whining about the nicotine. Its not an easy thing to do, and it sure doesnt happen over night! Your doing fantastic, hang in there! Hey Korkie, it was great talking to you, I think I need a corn oil bath! Hahaha! That was a good one. Let me know if you make it to the post office. Love ya

well it looks like everyone is out for the weekend. pretty darned boring. i reposted my meerkat christmas songs on the talk about MM here thread if anyone is interested. but you have to keep a straight face while you sing them. and you have to sing them in front of your family. the purpose is to drive them all crazy. i have a friend that wet her pants while she was trying to sing them. and yes, i don't let her forget it! hope you are all having a good weekend. love and hugs.

The only problem with going to my daughter's house for Thanksgiving is there are no leftovers. She cooked a 22 lb turkey for 10 people, and she had so little left, I would have been embarrassed to fill a plate to take home. Funny, it reminded me of my late mother. She could not leave a dinner party without a to-go order. LOL, we finally bought her a set off tupperware for her trunk because we never got our dishes back.
Korkie, love your Christmas songs. Who knew we had such talent in the burrow.
Kescha, I hope your doctor visit went well.
I was off Thursday, but working mao the whole weekend. Darn, I'm too old to work this hard, but then I would go crazy if I had to stay home all day with DM.
Josnaj, I have no idea why anyone would go near a mall on Black Friday or Saturday. The traffic was nuts already on my way to work. So many stores had the same specials online with no charge shipping. I just decided to cut back on all shopping this year in favor of paying my gas bill.
Squirrelly, thanks for the support. It all helps.
Have a great day tomorrow.

Hey Korkie, I loved your christmas songs! Your very talented sis! New meds from the dr, which will probably knock me out when I take them here in a bit. Did you call me tonight? I will give you a buzz tomorow. Love ya
Krazolatlady, I hate to see you working so hard, but I do understand staying home with the DM. Wow your daughter had a lot of people over for the holidays. At least she dosent have to worry about left overs.
Paw waves everyone else and anyone else that posts!

Korkie, those songs really were amazing; I couldn’t write lyrics if my life depended on it. We should all head down to a recording studio and get those babies recorded. People will think we are out of our minds.
I’ve been thinking about Christmas past, especially in my family. We emigrated from Bangladesh when I was a toddler so we didn’t celebrate it when I was a pup. So I knew for certain about the truth about Santa Claus by the time I was six. But, by the time I was eight years old, my dad surprised us when he bought a little tree, about 3-4 feet with artificial snow on it. He bought us glass ornaments, too. My,did we have fun decorating that tree! But my cynical brain was wondering if we would find any presents under it on Christmas morning. But my dad urged us to write a note to Santa and leave toffee(we didn’t have any cookies on us). So we did and the next morning we found two little wrapped presents under the tree! They turned out to be walkie-talkies, and my, did we have fun all day long, probably driving our parents up a wall with all that chattering on those walkie-talkies. The toffee was gone and “Santa” left us a note, thanking us for the candy. I wished I had saved that note. So years later after my brother was born, we got more presents, the trees got taller(eventually culminating into a nine footer for about ten years), and I definitely made sure my brother believed in Santa.
So know, I have a brand new tree, a seven and half footer with multi-colored lights fixed onto it. I have beautiful ornaments that I have collected over the years. But that little tree still burns in my memory, my first Christmas in 1978.

josna, that is an awesome story. sounds like a song to me. please tell some more stories. we grew up not knowing if we were going to have christmas or not. we lived in the country in a house with a little coal burner in one room and mom had to put 2 couches together for all of us to sleep in. even though my dad was a railroader, we still had no money.

Korkie and Josna I like your stories both. Brings back memories. Not always pleasant ones.
My dad was an alcholic, couldnt hold a job and managed to drink up all the money mom earned. May he rest in peace after having lived struggling with the problem til the day he died. We all lived with Grandma, but sometimes there was not enough to eat, lights and phone cut off and so on.
But Mom and Grandma always tried to make Christmas special. Grandma could make a meal out of scraps and oh she could bake. We would wait until Christmas eve and Mom and I would walk up to the local service station (no car) and pick a tree and drag it back home. That late they were very cheap or even sometimes free. Of course they were "Charlie Brown" trees. So we would cut branches here and tie them in there. Somehow they were always beautiful. There always was a gift too, even if Mom had to beg the hobby shop owner to let her pay later. When there is love, it makes everything better.
I remember too, everybody always said "Merry Christmas" to everyone. It was like saying hello and again goodbye. It didn't matter if they were strangers. If you made eye contact, you wished them a happy holiday. How times have changed. We are mostly all richer, but have lost the good will. I plan to bring a lot of that back by going around singing the meerkat songs. You may have just changed the world.
Merry Christmas to you sister.

Korkie and KOKL, thanks for sharing your memories. Poignant and a little sad, but here I was feeling a little sorry for myself because I didn't grow up believing in Santa! Well I have learned a great deal about "Santa" since childhood, that he is really the spirit that resides in each and everyone of us. A "spirit" that offers more than gifts; it gives help and support freely, I think. But I do so enjoy giving more than receiving now; love to see the expressions on friends and family's faces when they get my gifts. But mostly, I just love to be around family at Christmas time and remembering how blessed we are, back then and now.
KOKL, you brought up some good points. I would personally hesitate to say "Merry Christmas," to someone I didn't know. I remember one year, back when I lived in Northern PA, that the check-out people in the grocery store were obligated to say "Merry Christmas" to each shopper as they paid for their groceries. I felt a little surprised, but I did like the sound of those words, even if the cashier was obligated to say it. Hearing it from a stranger does warm the cockles of your heart for some reason.
So an early "Meery Christmas" to you both!

Korkie dont worry about the floof and the fuff sister. I luvs ya! You and Kokl and Josnaj sure bring up memories. I need to tell one of my own. I think I was six and we just moved to Salina Ks. Dad was working at the Sherrifs Dept and mom was working at Woolsworths in the credit dept. There was a christmas tree she had her eye on but didnt think it was in the budget. Dad got a bonus and didnt tell her. He bought her that tree. It was silver, and came with a round lamp light with four different colors, and it went round and round and showed all the colors on the sliver branches of the tree. Mom was working on a sat and he brought the tree home. He even got bulbs to match the colors on the turning wheel. So we set it up and decorated it, and he even had an angel for the top. Mom loves angels. Anyways, she came home from work, and boy was she surprised! She cried. I dont remember any presents but I will always remember that tree and what dad did for my mom. Me and my sister used to lay down under it and watch the colors change. It sure was pretty. Of coarse time changes things and dads job was hard on the family. He worked with the KBI and the DEA going under cover. They got divorced when I was 17. He always loved mom though and he never remarried. We werent a rich family, but we loved each other and that was enough.
Josnaj your so right, blessings are family and what you can give, not what you can get. Merry early christmas to all of you ladies too! Thanks for the memories!
