I sent an email asking if these tapes were real or recreations.. this was the reply

Thank you for your interest in Animal Planet’s LOST TAPES. This cryptozoology series is inspired by the possibility that creatures like Bigfoot, Chupacabra and the Monterey Bay Monster do exist. Although the existence of these creatures has never been proven, alleged sightings and encounters suggest that there are species that have managed to elude the reach of mankind.
LOST TAPES is not meant to be deceiving; its purpose is to entertain viewers by posing stories, mixed with purported evidence, that suggest what could happen if these animals and people crossed paths. The footage in the program contains some recreations and re-enactments which incorporate the nuances and characteristics of these animals that have been allegedly gathered over the years. LOST TAPES does not acknowledge the existence of these creatures, nor does it disprove it. The series is simply meant to peak viewers’ curiosity about unknown animal species that may lurk beyond the scope of human knowledge.

Here is my problem with this. They are liars. Never on the show does it say this is a dramatization or an recreation (like other shows such as monsterquest do). Then they also say "These are their tapes." Again lying to the audience. Never once even in small print does it say this is not true. Then at the end they wrap it up by saying again this was the tape we found on so and so. The whole story is fake along with the videos. How are we to know what they actually threw in as the truth, when so much is fake?
This is totally what I understood the show to be. Obviously these are not actual tapes of what happened, I assumed that these were re-enactments based on peoples accounts of what happened. However, I do believe that the show should have a disclaimer at the start of the show saying that it is not actual footage and the show is a re-enactment of what happened. I can see how someone could misunderstand and think that it is actual footage. The show does say "these are their tapes".

First of all it says in the beginning of the show exactly how it implies it.... its [B]their tapes... By "their tapes" its referring too the reinactment its self. It's such a simple observation to see and they never lied to anyone.... These videos are only based of sightings and documents and possible real life encounters they just change up the names and slap cheezy acters on a made up video.
I just don't understand why everyone is so upset about this. It's TV. It's entertainment. It's a show to make you use your imagination (which alot of you obviously don't have). If you go out into the woods this "COULD" be waiting for you. What's the differnece between watching The Lost Tapes and and any other show on TV today. AP has not tried to mislead anyone and if you think it's real then so be it but they never say "This is real!" What they do say is "this is based on" that should be your first clue.
I know it is fake. That is not my problem with the show at all. I enjoy Monsterquest on the Discovery channel, which is very clear that these are dramatizations or recreations when they show them. Monsterquest is exactly like Lost Tapes, except it is clear on what it is and when they show actual footage they tell you. Lost Tapes was deciving, it did lead people to believe that they were going to be real tapes they would be viewing. Even though after you saw them you obviously knew they were fake. Like in their response to me it is mixed with reality and recreations, the problem with that is they never tell you which is which. When do the viewers know if they are watching or seeing an actual picture, video, etc. or if its the recreation??? They marketed it as if these were real tapes, they say these are THEIR tapes (referring to the people, and they recovered them). They are using a play on words to confuse people and that's whey people are annoyed. Now that I know the truth I do enjoy the show. All people want is the truth.
I read the letter and everyone's response and I'm even more confused! So have the things in the "recreations and re-enactments" really happened? Or is it merely all theoretical? I don't particularly mind if it is all theory and guess work. But my concern is for safety if there is a dangerous animal out there, like megaconda. I'm getting confused by the "these are their tapes" and the real companies and whatnot! Can someone tell me the truth?
I understand why you might be confused. I watched this program for the first time last night thinking the "lost tapes" were supposed to be real. However, while watching the Megaconda episode I quickly saw several inconsistencies that tipped me off that it was all fake. For instance, the German Shepherd dog that was allegedly killed by the huge snake was in plain view of the security camera inside the warehouse. Yet no video of the snake attacking the dog and dragging it to that spot was presented. Also, anaconda's don't attack their prey, drag it away, then abandon it. They spend a considerable about of team squeezing it, then eating it whole. It was very obvious at that point the whole thing was fake. There clearly was an intent to inform the viewer that these were "stories", but the whole thing was also presented in such a way that one could easily conclude they were supposed to be real tapes. Now that I know they're all fake, I won't waste time watching any more of the programs.
I love Animal Planet. I fall asleep to it every night and wake up to it in the morning. But come Tuesday night, I know I won't be tuning in. I was so disappointed with this show. It is such a fake and is a complete degredation to the myths.
I do believe idea that this world contains a vast number of secrets that we have yet to discover, but this show does nothing in the way of contributing to these discoveries. I thought this was a lame immitation of Destination Truth, a show I do enjoy. They actually go out and try to prove or disprove the myths. Whether it's true or not, it at least carries the essence of truth.
Lost tapes is just a way for really bad actors to get their 10 minutes of fun in the sun. Please, Please, Please I beg you. KILL THE SHOW!!!
u people need to think! maybe it is fake! but if its real you guys think that its not cause how fake it looks! but if you think about it anybody can watch tv no matter how old or young so if they found the REAL tapes they cant show them cause they may show brutal scenes so of course there going to re-act it cause they dont want some 4 yr old girl happen to turn on the tv and wacth the brutal REAL TAPES!!!!!! im awhole lot younger than u maybe and look u r arguing about how fake it looks when u dont think!!!
I have to admit, I just watched the last 15 or so minutes of the Skinchanger/Mothman episode, and I wasn't very entertained. It was obviously not real--the video was attempting to look like it was from the 60's. I believe there's a strange phenomena that is the Mothman out there, but they should attempt to do research and talk to people who either witnessed the creature or are experts in mythology or something. They're just being lazy in doing this show this way. I was sorely disappointed not to see the skinchangers part of the episode--I'd seen the commercial for that segment once or twice before today, and I had been really looking forward to it. Then again, after seeing the last bit of the Mothman segment, I might be glad not to have seen it.
the moth man thing was kinda stupid! like OMG ITS MTHMAN!! evrybody run!! it was stupid! to me it sounded more like it was the devil! think: red eyes a dark mysterious figure, so called "KILLED" eveybdy on the bridge!
