I have a 9 month old daughter that has been wheezing on and off since 6 months. At first they diagnosed her RSV/bronchilitis (sp?). Now occasionally she will start up again, they think that she has baby asthma, no one in our family has asthma. I am taking her to an allergist because we do have pets, my dog is a silky terrier which does not shed, and we also have a cat which of course does shed. My younger sister does have allergies to cats and i just found out the other day that she does have breathing problems when around the cat. I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this. Thanks.
When my little boy was 13 months old, we took him to children's hospital, because he was Wheezing very hard, he trying very hard to breathe, sucking in an out and was just a mess. I was very worried about him.. When we got there they took him straight back, we ended up spending the weekend at the hospital, he was on breathing treatments every hour, and then before we left it was every 4 hours around the clock.... They called is Acute Airway Disease, wouldn't call it allergies or asthma, because it was the first time it happened, it started as a cold.. He got better when steriods and the breathing treatments.
About 3 weeks ago, we were back in the ER for the same thing.... It wasn't as bad this time, I caught it early! Same thing, only this time they said maybe asthma and severe seasonal allergies, which both my hubby and I have... Anyways, again he did the steriods for 5 days, and the around the clock breathing treatments for 5 days, every 3 hours.. It was rough, be he got better much faster this time.. Took him to his pedi, and they said they wouldn't test him for allergies because 95% of the time they come back negative at this age.. So we just do Clairtin with him every couple of days, and if we think he needs the breathing treatment we do that... It mostly only happens when the pollen is bad, and his eyes get all watery and he starts to cough, still won't officially say it's asthma, I had it as a child and grew out of it, by the time I was 10.. GOOD LUCK!!
I replied before, but it said I used a trigger word, not sure what word..
Yes, I've been through this! it's not fun, and it's VERY SCAREY!
When my little boy was 13 months old, he was admitted to the Hosp for 3 days.. He was wheezing very badly, and having a lot of trouble getting air in and out, it was very scarey.. We took him by ambulance... They wouldn't say he had asthma, because it was the first time it happened, it started out as a cold... just got worse with the weather... They put him on 5 days of steriods, and 5 days of around the clock breathing treatments. We came home with a nebulizer... did that for a week after we came home. That was in Nov, he did great the rest of the winter, now about 3 weeks ago, he was back in.. Only this time they didn't keep him. I caught it early enough, they just did the steriods and around the clock breathing treatments again for 5 days.. Said that he probably has severe allergies, because my hubby and I both do.. They won't test him for allergies, because the pedi, said that 95% of them at this age, come back neg... so she didn't want to put him through that.. If he's sneezing and stuff like that, I give him the clairtin if we are going outside for a long period of time.. Or if the weather is really goofy with pollen and stuff, we do the breathing treatment at night with him. Havent had to do one for a while now.. His eyes get very watery and stuff like that, so I think it's bad allergies...
wow thanks she goes through the same thing. as soon as a cold comes on she starts, right now she is doing much better we did breathing treatments cuz now we have a nebulizer here at home and she was on oral steriod and now on an inhaler one. its the weirdest thing though. but they do have her going to see an allergist so we will see what is going on. i hope she grows out of this i feel horrible when she doesn't feel good. thank you so much i had never heard of it before and neither of my other two kids had it so this was something new for me. thank you again.
Your Welcome.. My sons starts out as a cold it seems like and then just gets worse.. Only it's not really a cold, just really bad allergies... Like today his eyes were VERY WATERY, Red, and itchy, poor little guy, his nose was just running all of the time.. So I gave him a dose of Claritin and then he was doing better.. There are times if he's coughing a lot, we will just go ahead and do a breathing treatment with him, so that he feels better and hope that it doesn't get worse..
Let me know what they say at the allergist... My pedi would send Aiden to one, said it would more then likely to come back neg.. So I'm curious to see what yours shows.. Now when we go to my moms or my cousins both have dogs (SO DO WE), when the dogs like his face, or if he puts his hands in their water, he imediately breaks out in HIVES all over his face..... If the dog on licks in on the right side then that's where he breaks out.. So it's weird.. Our dog does not lick him.. It's juts something in those 2 dogs salivia that does it to him... GOOD LUCK and let me know!
