I have shoulder length curly hair that has been cut in the same style for years. I am 27 years old, but my hairstyle screams TEENAGER! I am ready for a completley new look. Can anyone recommend a hair stylist/salon in the Atlanta, GA area that can tame my locks?

Thanks,
Ashley

I have medium length curly hair as well and I have had it cut basically the same way since middle school. I was thinking about cutting it short, but I've heard curly hair isn't the best short. I want to feel professional since I just graduated from college. I've even thought about straightening my hair, but I don't want to get rid of my natural curl. If anyone knows a good hairstylist in Colorado as well let me know!

I have had SUPER curly hair all of my life.

When I was younger, I had it super short and it looked like I was from an "Africa" heritage (I am acutally German-Italian). Then I started to grow it out. I grew it out to one length and then I had "triangle head" - flat on top and super poofy on the ends.

I was really nervous to get layers put in as I wear my hair back a lot (I am a nurse). I had a trusted friend whose many clients had naturally curly hair. He put in just a couple of layers. Oh my, did it make a difference. He also taught me how to take care of it. Always keep it trimmed, get it cut into layers, and always use a leave-in conditioner (I really like "Fast Food" from AG). If you are nervous about layers, just get a few put in.

My hair, at the moment, is just passed shoulder-length with about three layers in it. One at my jaw line, one at my shoulders and one at the end. Do not be afraid to check out stylists credentials. I have had my hair butchered many times and it's scary. Hope this helps.

I too have naturally curly hair, very curly and very frizzy! I will say that I had the luxury of wearing it straight for quite a while. Note: DO NOT HAVE A CHEMICAL STRAIGHTENER PUT ON YOUR HAIR!!! A good stylist can show you how to straighten your hair without long-term damage. In the end, curly is me, but there are options out there for we curly girls! It's not as easy to take care of as curly hair, but you can straighten and go a day or 2 without washing it which saves you time in the end.

Good luck!

I posted some advice for styling on your own to the question "hair help." You may want to look at it because there could be some beneficial advice and I wouldn't want to retype it all! Embrace the curliness!!
