When I was 20 I was working at a wilderness therapy camp...whos name I will not disclose for professional reasons. I had a few weeks off due to a shift change and I descided to challenge myself and test the survival training I had recieved and taught.
I drove up a nearby canyon to the top of the plateu, parked in the trees a little ways (put a sign on my car so no one would take it...) and started walking. I was wearing a pair of Carhart zip leg pants, an REI synthetic button down shirt, and a polypropelene under shirt, and a pair of DVS sandals. I walked about 45 miles in about 7 days, made shelter everynight out of pine boughs and downed trees, used a "handdrill" method of fire with a Bee plant spindle and a cottonwood branch fireboard, boiled water in an old can I found, and made a type of bread from Juniper berries (the inner pith makes a sort of natural yeast and when combined with wheat grass and water makes a pretty tasty bread). I was apprehensive of eating the Jack Rabbits that populate the area, as they tend to carry a pretty nasty bug that I didnt want to deal with...I ended up coming across a group of campers just outside of Leeds UT that took me into St. George where some freinds picked me up and brought me back to my car, where I found a parking ticket...lame... But other than the ticket...I had te greatest time of my life!!

It really is a lot easier than you would think. It is more a mind set than anything. The human body is very strong and capable of great things...
