Hello. I am a physical therapist working with a man with a quadralateral amputation. He is doing well but due to poor insurance, has been left with only the most basic prostetics for both his arms and legs. He is young, strong and now healthy and would greatly benefit from better functioning prostetics. With his current level of function, his prostetics are hold him back and making certain situations dangerous. I have tried contacting numerous organizations, TV shows etc. but no one is willing to help this man. Does any one have any ideas or know a company or the like that could help? They are very low on money (imagine what needs to change by losing your arms and legs) and this man is an amazing inspiration. Thanks so much, everyone!
You might be able to try http://www.limbsforlife.org. They find finiancial resources for people who can't afford prosthesis. Also you might try to contact Social Services. He might be able to receive medicare or medicaid based on his disabilty.
I've heard about an excellent organization that helps folks to get prosthetics. It's called the Barr Foundation. Their website is at: www.oandp.com/resources/organizations/barr/ sincerely, dave cossaboon

They have a site - amputee coalition of America - and may be of assistance. I just THANK GOD I had/have good insurance to cover my below knee prosthesis. Good luck,
I checked with some of the other older members at our monthly meeting as I mentioned earlier and was told to post the following...: Nat'l Institute of Health Database There are groups here that have provided some assistance in the past.
