Dear Participating Readers,
I am faced with a question of a lifetime:
A. Should I get prosthetics

Sounds odd? Let me explain.....
When I was born, I seemed to be a healthy child. But as I grew up, i seem to not be able to learn to walk. I would be able to crawl very well, but not able to walk. At the age of 3 or 4 i was put into some braces and learned to walk, in which i did.....somewhat. My bones in my lower body seem not to have developed correctly and the muscles seemed not to also develop. I was finally diagnosed with a disorder (which i cant say or write correctly). I have gone through many surgeries to correct the bone deformity, but was never able to develop leg muscles correctly.
I am walking now, but a very distungishable deformity, and getting slower all the time. I work out constantly and have developed my upper body very well, and also my right leg (but the left wont develop).
I have been faced with the course of action to amputate my tribisteral (below the knee)and replace it with prosthetics, which i will be able to run and walk (but not have legs). I can also amputate above the knee on my left or right (left because it wont develop) and so on.
SHOULD I DO THIS?

A. WIll it help me enough in the future (probably will, but talking about 50 years)

B. How long does it get back to walking after the the surgery? Both scernerios (above and below knee).

C. (for Elliot, but any of you may help) Do you have a base in Texas? What would you do in this suitation.

Thanks,
Andrew
PS: Please Help me, i am asking so i can maybe do it before college (year away)

Andrew,

I am not sure how much I can help you out. I am a right HD, so I cannot offer a personal perspective on an AK and BK. I can tell you that the more of your leg you can keep, the better off you will be.

Check out this forum: http://cybermessageboard.bizland.com/amputee/
This forum is a lot more active and there are several AK's and BK's who may be able to offer some advice.
