I want to commend Bringing Home Baby for having the first episode I have seen where a new mom decided to breastfeed and was successfull with it. I was sick of seeing so much formula in these new babies I stopped watching the show all together. Thank you for airing (DEA Daddy 2007) Breastfeeding is the best nutrition for all babies and Bringing Home Baby needs to highlight that more often then they have. Please keep airing episodes with Breastfeeding Success stories.

I've seen a few successes, but they are VERY FEW. I always feel so bad when these Moms who say they want to breastfeed are just sadly mis-informed on how to make it work and don't have the help they need from a family member or lactation consultant and are forced to give it up. It's VERY hard, but can definitely be done with the right help.

I agree that breastfeeding is probably the best choice, but is overrated. Mom's that aren't able to breastfeed for various reasons have a hard time explaining themselves because of extremem criticism. Alot of mother's like myself are made to feel like failures if they can't breastfeed. I think mom's that can't breastfeed need to know that there children will not be negatively affected by being on formula.

It is not overrated!! I know that there are circumstances in which mom's cannot breastfeed! I do believe that some mothers are not given enough support or education so they give up too soon. Both of my children were breastfed and I plan on breastfeeding my new bean due in March. Keyword "Plan" I was successful thanks to the reseacrch, education, and support I received before and after my pregnancies. Breast is best, but sometimes not always available.

I think the point is in most of the shows I have seen, the support women are getting on breastfeeding is inaddiquite for moms that have complications feeding. I went through HELL the first 3 weeks I BF my first child. I had even had a bleeding inverted nipple and my DR telling me i may not be able to BF from that side. Well not only could I BF from that side but it produced more milk than the other side with my first child. I am currently BFing my 3rd child and each time there have been diffent problems and successes. My 2nd gave it up on his own at 10 months my first didn't til 15 months when I had to force her because I was about to start my 3rd trimester with my 2nd. I believe the more info you have the more successful you will be and the more you will enjoy the experience. I know a woman who had a very easy time at it, and did it because "it was best" but knew no other reasons and hated every moment. I know an other woman that fought the odds, finally had total success, only to have to ubruptly quit due to a serious illness and longterm medication she needed that dried her up. She was devistated. Wheather you bottle or breast feed is a personal choice. Breast is Medically proven to be BEST, but no bottle fed child is going to suffer harm because their mother didn't breast feed. NO judgements should ever be given. My bottom line is the support and education isn't there for these women. I have heard things said by MEDICAL professionals on these shows that make me cringe! First time moms need information that is current and accurate. When your medical support team tells you something you believe it. I think that is what is happening in most of these episodes.
I was fortunate to have a great hospital my first 2 go arounds. The breast feeding support services were awesome. We changed hospitals for our 3rd and I found myself teaching the breast feeding specialists there. These lactation nurses have to have special certifications in my state to do this job and yet 2 hospitals in the same city have drastically different abilities in supporting mothers. I could ramble forever on the subject so I'll quit now. thanks for reading.
