I just watched the episode with the 20 yr married couple who had a 1 yr old and they just had a newborn. This couple just annoyed me. First they have a broken glass table and when the 1 yr old cuts his hand she acts like it is no biggie. They did not even get rid of it, they just left it there. Was it just me or was this couple just irresponsible? The girl seemed very phony like she was playing for the cameras. I mean first she was talking all sweet and them she is complaining that her 1 yr old is acting up and he was not like this before she had the baby. Hello, he is like this because he is still a baby and there is a new baby in the house. She just does not seem like a sweet mom to me.She seems really nasty when the cameras are off. And thats all she did was complain about money. If they are so poor then why have another child so soon. They just irked me.
I also watched this episode this morning and was bothered by several things. I agree that the mother's tone with her 1 year old seemed way off. She acted as if he had done something wrong when she found him in the kitchen with a bloody hand. Also, I am pretty positive the baby swing they had was no longer appropriate to use on a child of a year or older! I was shocked when I saw the older son swinging in it. Also, she scene of the baby sleeping on his tummy in his crib was, I believe, irresponsible for TLC to air. Not a great thing to show when there could be uninformed mothers watching. They may think this is an acceptable way for their infant to sleep when it is NOT. Overall, I was just really disappointed in this episode. I am all for showing all different kinds of families but think that TLC may have a little responsibility to show families that are good examples to all.
I have a 4 month old daughter, and she has slept on her stomach since day one. We co-sleep, so she sleeps in bed with me. For the first week she slept on my stomach and chest, and then between my husband and I. Since about 2 1/2 - 3 months she has slept 6-8 hours at night, and before that she would wake up, nurse and go right back to sleep. Do you know why you are not suppose to let infants sleep on their stomach? Because the chemicals in crib mattress' give off toxins that increase SIDs. At a week my daughter was able to lift her head and switch sides. She never sleeps alone, I don't put her down and leave the room or go upstairs/downstairs. I think you have to find what is right for your child, my daughter will not sleep on her back...so in order for us all to be happy she sleeps on her stomach. Every other year you hear about a new way to put your child to sleep. I did not see this episode, but do not agree that it is not ok to allow your baby to sleep on their stomach.
