I am glad that this program pulls no punches when these fellows show how vunerable most of us are to errant thieves. When one considers the neighbourhood they chose to test, one would think that wealthy persons would have very good security in their homes. That it took less than fifteen minutes to wipe out the entire house, is nothing less than amazing. I hope that Discovery keeps this show on for a long while.
I keep thinking about which locks should be more secure, and after this week's show, I'm really paranoid about a basement window. It's definately made me more conscious about what I can do better in my own house.
This show has made me uncomfortably aware of how easily someone could break into my house. I can't afford an alarm system, but I've made several other security improvements because of the show. It doesn't necessarily take a lot of money to make your home more secure. And the show has gone a long way towards making me more aware of security in general. I sure wish Discovery would continue this show ... it was more than just entertainment - it was actually doing some good in the world!
A couple months before this show first aired, my townhouse was broken into. After the breakin, I started taking some extra precautions (lights and a radio on timers). I then saw this show and realized how vulnerable I still was. I've taken a lot of extra steps to protect my home and am now doing everything I can (short of getting a full blown alarm system since I rent my townhouse) to protect my home.
I think it does provide some good insight...but then again it's also teaching those who are interested in breaking into houses ways to do it and basically what to look for. That double edge sword is a bit troubling because you know some kids are taking it in like a class for theives. Hopefully the good will out weigh the bad....
