Hey all, I just have a question that keeps entering my mind. I guess this applies to baby girls more than it would boys. I've never had a problem with this, nor have I heard of anyone else ever having a problem with this, but has anyone ever heard of scented diapers like LUVS or PAMPERS causing any kind of irritation? I've used both of those and haven't encountered anything as of yet, but I can't help but wonder if all that perfume in those diapers could possibly cause a urinary tract infection, yeast infection, or be bad for diaper rash. I never think to ask the dr. when we are there, so I just wanted to get someone else's take on it. Lately I've been using the Pampers Easy Ups...and I love the absorbency of them but the perfume when you open the package is sometimes enough to gag me!!! It's a good baby powder smell but it is SO STRONG!! Well I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on the subject.

I haven't heard anything about it one way or the other. Something to keep in mind: any products having to do with children are HIGHLY regulated by consumer product safety agencies. I imagine there could be children who are sensitive to it (just like there are adults who are bothered when women wear perfume), but if there was anything resembling a trend, I suspect there'd be some sort of recall or warning or at least a study by now. Scented diapers aren't exactly new.

I do know what you mean about the overpowering smell. I used cloth almost exclusively for the first 6 months and then started using disposables some of the time after I introduced solids. (DD poops on a schedule, bless her. Breastmilk poo is one thing, solids poo is quite another.) The first time I opened a pack of those things I about gagged.

No ill effects though.

Don't really understand the reasoning behind scented diapers anyway? Is it to hide the smell of pee/poop?? I would think you would want to be able to smell it so you know it's time to change your baby, right??

This may be ridiculously belated, but aside from the fact that I really couldn't stand the smell, my daughter did react to Pampers diapers - her skin got irritated and red. When I stopped using them it went right away. Ironically, I know another mom whose son could only use Pampers - and he has some of the most sensitive skin I have ever seen. I guess it really depends on the child.
