My husband and I went to Home Depot and was helped by a really nice, knowledgeable employee. The problem we're having though is do we need to get ALL the old adhesive off the wall or can we just "shave" the wall smooth? If I was to try to get all the old adhesive off, I would damage the drywall under it and have to spackle the wall before I put new adhesive on it.

Also, what we bought is an adhesive & grout combo, premix. Has anyone used that before? Does anyone think it would be okay or not? Should we use a separate adhesive and this other for grouting?
