Bear does it ever make you mad that you "have to drink your own urine" and your production crew has water bottles? Or that you are "sleeping in a camel carcass" and they leave for hotel rooms? I would be irritated. You must be "really tough".

I am grateful that you served our country and helped protect what we as proud Americans hold dear. I am sorry that you believe that Bear is legit. He makes a mockery out of what true heros have to go through on a day to day basis. I hope your children realize that what you have done for them far exceeds the glitz and glam of what "Bear" does.
how you can survive in places like that is completely awesome!
He is not surviving.
If you learned something from this show, please un learn it.
Ah well, he was another drive by poster anyway.
One less in the gene pool.
Got to thank Eddie for that I guess.

Typical, what gives you the right to critique Bear's advise? What training do you have? Other than running more than he should I don't see a lot of bad advise. I am no expert, I am simply a 21 year old from New England that likes to camp in New Hampshire. You critique in almost every post, to save us from all the bad advise.
What credentials do you have?
Bear,
I love your show, and I like how you've incorporated native people in some of the new episodes. I love the outdoors and I go camping several times a year and plan on going a lot more. I use some of your advise while I'm hiking/camping too. I use my watch to determine where North is, I set up snares to see if I can catch some Red Squirrels. I have also made tea from Pine Needles, it's not bad! Thanks for everything and try to ignore all the nay sayers on these forums.
NO bear, thank you!i'm living in costa rica and your skillz have helped me to survive here, especially with the ants!you are a bad mamma jamma and because of your courage you have beaten the odds, world records, been the 1st at many new things, including risking your own life on t.v. to teach us civilians how to tour the world without ending up dead,possibly,..pura vida!plus i like watching you cuz your hot!
Who I am and what I have done in my life has been posted many times before, and I have provided paperwork to several "Eddie fans" to back up my claims.
I do not see a need to go through this again, so if you really feel the need to know who I am, I suggest that you read back over my posts.
YOUR A FAKE YOU DONT REALLY KNOW WAT YOUR DOING OUT THARE YOU JUST TRYING TO BE BETTER THEN SURVIOR MAN AND OOO BY THE WAY HE IS OUT THERE BY HIM SELF WITH CAMERA AQUITMENT AND YOUR HAVE A CAMERA CREW UMM WHOS FAKE UMM USE FAKE
Bennion, we know he is a fake, we know he gives horrid advise. Many of the critics speak about this a lot. But the fans do not care, and you are making the critics look bad. Please shut the hell up untill you are able to convey your opinions in a civilized manner.
Since I haven't looked...but I guess I should, do you bash Survivorman fans equally, or in your own opinion is Les better than Bear?
Bennion, did you catch the Survivorman where Les was given a rifle to take with for protection? Or they give him rations to take, even though they may be small? I'm pretty sure I've never seen Bear carrying anything other than his knife. His crew might. And on many occasions Les references his "safety crew". Les carries a 2-way radio with him. His safety crew is never more than 2 or 3 miles from Les. So that tells me he has a GPS as well.
Does this bother me? I don't think so. These guys are making TV programs. They aren't really surviving. There are laws about putting people in harms way. This is not the Military. These shows are providing people who watch the enjoyment of seeing nature. And what to do in the event that nature turns around and bites you in the a@s. You don't go looking to drink and eat things in the wild for fun. You would pack in food and water.
But apparently there are some people on this board who aren't happy with the way these guys portray what a survival situation is like. That their way is dangerous as compared to their own ways. I say take it with a grain of salt. Bear and Les aren't saying do it this way...or that way. They are saying, If you have to, this can be done..or that. And you can survive. Then they show you it can be done.
And Typical, your way may be the greatest way. And you may be the super survival guy, And I really don't have the time to go back and look for your credentials, and I really don't care. If you are so wonderful, and you think your way is best. Then get a TV channel to back you and go make your own show. I'm sure people will watch, because no matter what you say, people just want to see the outdoors and learn a thing or 2 about it.
Thank you Sam, people forget that the point is to SHOW you how to survive in different situations. And comparing Les and Bear doesn't really make sense, they are selling two different products in a way. Les shows you how to stay put and survive with whatever you can salvage (he is given way more than Bear is given) and Bear shows you how to find help.
Hi Bear! In our house, we are MvsW junkies. We missed the "Bear Eats" episode because of a Christmas party, so we stayed up until after midnight to catch the replay, because we had to see the "stomach of steel" in action! My favorite part of the show is to see just what you'll eat next. I was wondering just how many times you have to brush your teeth after returning from an "adventure" before your wife will kiss you! ha ha! The show is awesome and we have been addicted from day 1. The Everest episode was extremely touching because you successfully conveyed how important your family is to you. That's very important for someone in the public eye, to show just how devoted to your family you are. I know it gets tough to leave them every time you go, but I'm positive that the situations you have put yourself in would definitely help someone in a dire situation. Not to say that I would squeeze water out of digested camel food, but if I were ever in a desert about to die, I would try it. I will continue to be a faithful viewer, so good luck, be safe, and Merry Christmas!!!!
Since I haven't looked...but I guess I should, do you bash Survivorman fans equally, or in your own opinion is Les better than Bear?
I only bash people when the situation warrents it. You may notice that when a critic is being stupid that I tell them about it.
I did not bash anyone in my previous post. Just gave some information.

I have found some falt with some of the things Les has done, and I did voice said faults. But they were not grevious errors that will get someone killed.
The thing is that Eddie is not showing you how to survive. He is preforming stunts to pull people to the show, then passes it off as survival advise.

Then get a TV channel to back you and go make your own show.
As I have said before, I am more than happy with my current line of work. I do not feel the need to give up the 35 k a year that the Corps pays me. And I would not sell myself out for ratings.
I have said many times in the past that I would not have a problem with Eddies show if it were billed for what it truely is. And yes he is basiclly telling you to do it his way in the last sentance of the intro.
quote:
people just want to see the outdoors and learn a thing or 2 about it.
And that would be fine, but they take everything he says as the truth when its not. There has already been one person that was in a bad way and tried to follow Eddie's advise. Lucky for him he made it out, but barely, and would have been much better off if he would have forgotten everything he saw on MvW. What he did only made things worse for him, and in no way aided his survival.
quote:
(he is given way more than Bear is given)
How so? Eddie jumps in with a crew, shoots a scene and is then pulled out to go shoot another scene someplace else.
Les will be able to salvage whatever he can from his crashed vehicle. Bear has his knife, flint and water bottle while he is out there. He makes what he can with his knife and what nature provides him.
Hi Bear, I think its cool that you've been in the British Special Forces and that you've climbed Mount Everest three times. When Iget old enough I hope to get the chance to climb it,too.I'm glad you got back safe and sound, but still take it easy and stay safe.I'm sure yor survival tips will come in handy someday and by chance I do get to climb Mount Everest they will come in handy. Thanks alot for the tips and stay safe.
hey bear u are my hero i want to climb everest and go to patagonia and all those other places u go to i am very interested in climbing and wondered if u new of any really good places for begginers in climbing also i was wonderingif u have ever climbed K2 or ever want to climb K2
HI Bear,I come from Romania(Europe) and I admire you and your show.I am 16 and I watch discovery chanel since I have 9 years. This year I watch your show and is the best.I watched every time the show and you are my idol.I hope to learn me some survival tactics. Your frined Sogard, see you soon
You are the man... Crazy as heck... But, you are still the man. Oh, by the way.... How do you keep your teeth so white... Is it something in the gourmet food you seem to come across on your episodes?

I am so proud of season 2 of the show, which returns on Friday. It has taken a lot of hard graft to make. It's much more intense as well as intimate, and there's no doubt that I was pushed to my own limits this time. But I hope that together we can keep spreading the message of the great outdoors.
Thanks again for watching and keep your thoughts coming in.
As for me, it's such a relief to have delivered another season and still be in one piece!
Bear X
Bear, me, my two boys, and my wife all enjoy your show.. I look forward to seeing any and all new episodes! You keep it interesting! Thanks for giving us enjoyable television. You are very knowledgeable to be so young. How old are you anyway?
I am amazed how many bitter Bear haters are on this blog. Clowns like typical_is_back_again and karenrei01 who think that they are the Grand Masters at survival knowledge with their, by-the-book approach to survival techniques. Then karenrei01 complaining about peoples spelling and grammar? That is a tool of a defeated thinker. People only do that when they can't win an argument, they attack peoples spelling and grammar. By the way karenrei01, you wouldn't get an A in English Composition yourself. Mostly, I think all you Bear loathers are really self haters because you were not smart enough to put your so called "skills" to use and capitalize on a market of people who love what Bear does. I think typical_is_back_again's ego is as inflated as his credentials.
As for Bear, I think the Guinness book of Records holder Sir Ranulph Fiennes said it best: "The Daily Mail's attack on Bear Grylls mentions that he is 'the cheese soufflé' of the adventure world and, by way of pushing this assertion, suggests that he may not have been the youngest Brit to scale Everest, and implies that 21 SAS Regiment is not as tough as 22 SAS Regiment. I would comment that he was indeed the youngest Brit because the only possible rival claimant was clearly Australian. And that 21 SAS membership requires distinctly non-cheese soufflé people. Its comparison to 22 SAS is therefore irrelevant and cheap, suggestive journalism of a misleading nature."

You really need to stick around here more often, It is funny when you make yourself look like an a$$.
It is the by-the-book approach that has worked. It is when people do stupid things that they die (most of the time)

Thank you for being the hundredth person to try to use this argument.
Not everyone seeks fame, or air time.

So a guy that lived in Brittan most of his life, was born there, and still spends more than half the year there, is not a Brit? How does that work?

I understand what you mean some users on here do take it to the top just a bit, but at the same time they have the right to state their opinions like you and I. Typical_is_Back is a really cool person if you approach him/her (Sorry I’m not sure if you're a bloke or not) the right way.
I have seen the conversation between sas_michael_collins and Karenrei01, Personally I think they both reacted in the wrong way, misunderstanding each others post really, though I don't think calling each other names is going to solve anything at all!, we all don't know each others lives so I think it's best if we should keep comments toward other users to ourselves no matter what the situation is.
I feel that people should read the comments a little bit more carefully, yes they are some that take it to far, but I feel that everyone who is either for or against Bear can post their opinion in a respectful way instead of fighting for every little thing, I'm not saying you're a bad person survivalist, I'm just saying that maybe you should not let it get to you, I am also a bear fan, he's a nice bloke but I know when to not take things in the wrong way.
My definition of the difference between a discusion and an argument: in a discussion two or more parties say different thing in a similar way and listens to what the other says, in an argument they say similar things in a different way and don't listen to what the other says.

I completely agree with you. I came to the Discovery Forums recently as a Bear fan and was outraged by all the critics. Typical was one of the people I deemed in my mind, and posts as a critic.
However, as I have read his posts and responded to them, he is a good guy. I don't know his whole story, but I do know he is educated on survival techniques and does have the right to speak his mind.
I also learned a lot of MvW that I didn't know, the deception and bad advise. At first I argued a lot with not much success, like most Bear fans. I am still a Bear fan, I will just watch what advise I take.
I would like to kind of take back some of my posts asking people their qualifications and to apologize to them. This includes typical_is_back_again. Sorry man! Keep up the good work!
Hello Bear! I understand you have had the pleasure of working with my Siberian Son, Sergei, recently! No problem brother. It is easy to get defensive about something you feel strongly about. We are all guilty of it from time to time.
I guess sometimes we all get defensive about certain things. I don't come on here to personally attack anyone. Some people feel strongly in their position against Bear and or Les or even the Mythbusters. I enjoy all the programming on Discovery. Regardless of whether Bear says I can drink my pee I guarantee I will never do it. Just like drinking the fluid out of the carcass of a dead camel. Raw Seal...forget it. Thing is...I like the shows. That's all. Both Bear and Les have great shows in my opinion. Whether or not Bear is being flown out after each take or not. Or whether Les's safety crew is just over the hill. Doesn't matter. Thing is they are out there doing it. And showing us that all is not lost. There is no reason to give up. That the human body can withstand all sorts of adversity with just a bit of gumption.
So in the spirit of things. I'd like to say sorry to Typical. I don't know you man. It's not right to say things about you. You are entitled to your own opinion, whether i like it or not. Just as I am. Happy Holidays all.

Thats cool brother, and sorry if I come off as gruf, well sometimes I intend to. But not this time.
And you are correct, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but debate can be a good thing. Normally everyone ends up learning something when like interested people get together and debate, and it can sometimes get heated.
BUT, if both parties are willing to learn, both parties will.
Hello all! Hope you had a nice christmas. I just wanted to say that i dont think people should not believe everything you see on TV.. And its kind of your own fault if you think that it "must be true cause it's on TV" . Even reality tv is staged at some parts.
And also... There has just been so, (sorry but this is true) a bit silly comments like; how someone had thought that Bear is there totally alone, yeah, like then whos filming it all, huh?! And now hes so disapointed when it isnt so.. oh dear, use your brain.. And what i've seen Bear allways says that camera crew will fallow him. I guess life has not always been easy for him, and that makes him who he is. He seams like really sincere guy. Yeah, so haters, say what you will, Bear is the best! :P

Hi there Tanja!,
You seem to be new on here If you are then WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
Well regarding your post I have to state something, as It seems you are a fan of bear, I am to and have actually (yes people I did)met him on one occasion, and he is indeed a sincere man.
Well the term "Haters" I don't feel like is an appropriate word to use, they are not "haters" at all they feel like something is wrong with the show and wanted to share out their opinions, don't get me wrong but I think comments like that should be kept to yourself.
If you actually take the time to speak with some users who are not for Bear, I am sure you will end up liking them a lot, You just got to know the right way of approaching them.
Well hi there sunshine128! And thank you for welcoming me. I apologize if my post was inappropriate to someone. Shure, everyone has right to speak their minds.
And also, my use of words is not so great cause i havent write in english in a long time I usually try to keep things to myself, sometimes i cant do that
But anyways, i wish everyone a happy new year! Hope its even better than the past one!
I have to ask: Who really cares? Bear does things that I would never do, even if I had the chance. I doubt many of us here would be willing to spend even a few hours in Siberia or in the desert or jungles. He does it. Whether he has a crew, a bottle of water or a portable air-conditioner, it doesn't matter. He's still out there. He actually did throw himself into a freezing pond, he actually did jump into quicksand and into a mud pit. I wouldn't, even if I had twelve of the strongest men alive there to pull me out if something went wrong.
What he does is show us what you can and can't eat, how you can hunt, find and cook food if you're in that position, how to make shelter. Did he catch the fish? I don't know. I don't care. He's out there. Where are you? Sitting in front of the TV watching. So criticism is a bit unfair, isn't it?
But don't tell me that it isn't extremely uncomfortable for him to do some of the things that he does. Some of it is, despite safety precautions, still quite dangerous. He has a wife and kids at home and I, for one, wouldn't want to see him putting himself in grave danger just to make a bunch of "purists" happy.
And what is it about human nature that makes people glory in the perceived "downfall" of our heroes? You'd think we didn't actually want anyone to be able to look up to...
Anyway, I don't care. I like watching Bear. I don't plan to ever find myself in those situations, and doubt I ever will, but the one that he teaches that can't be argued is, to me, the most important. Keep going, have faith and don't lose hope.
Don't bother to reply to this. I'm not looking for an argument. I just wanted to state my views. And honestly, why bother to keep up the bashing? Why? Do you have nothing better to do than sit here and try to make him look as bad as possible? Talk all you like about how "Dangerous" it would be to follow his advice, but until you get out there and start proving him wrong, you're really not helping anyone, are you?
Well I will respond, most of us are not "bashing" or make him look bad. He, or Discovery, already made him look bad by lying about him actually catching things. I don't care that he didn't catch them, because he showed us how, but there's not much anyone can say that will make him look worse than he is.

How so? Because someone didn't notice that he had a camera crew and therefore didn't figure out that he might have help? Who's to blame for that one?
I don't quite understand your question. We all knew he had a camera crew, but in a lot of the episodes, they had to re edit them because Bear originally said he caught something, but didn't. so Bear had to do a voice over saying that he didn't catch anything but here's what you would do it you did catch something.
If I am misunderstanding your question, please let me know.
Do you have nothing better to do than sit here...?
Uhhhh, i'm at work, so.....nope.
Don't get drawn in RJW. It's not worth getting all passionate about a flippin' tv show.
There are probably only a handful of people here who actually "hate" Bear. The rest just feel duped and are concerned. I feel a bit duped, but like you i still enjoy the show for its entertainment value. It's the whole, "what's Bear gonna get himself into (and eventually out of) this week?"
Where there is a problem, is that many are taking the advise on the show to heart. They don't watch the show saying, "oh, if i NEEDED to i COULD do this" but rather they watch and say, "if i'm ever in a similar situation, i know EXACTLY what to do now". That's dangerous.
Funny, I'm here because I'm avoiding work at the moment.
I know I shouldn't get so riled, but I never cease to be amazed at how people act and react. Here's my biggest complaint: When is the last time most of these people did anything even remotely daring? When they went to a different Mexican restaurant instead of their usual one? When they had a double order of beans instead of beans AND rice? *gasp* Wow, bet the gas from that one was just a killer!
When's the last time they put themselves into an uncomfortable situation on purpose? "You went to a cocktail party where you only knew two people?? AND you wore stiletto heels? Oh, you are so brave!!"
I mean, honestly. What do we expect? I will fully admit that I live in a nice, cozy home with a fireplace and central air, and think "roughing it" is what I have to do when the power goes out for a few hours. I don't know anything about true "surviving". How many of these people who are complaining can say differently? That's my irritation.
Go eat a spider when you don't have to, or spend ten minutes in the Arctic in only your underwear, then say that this man isn't rather brave and more than a little insane.
And now, I really do have dishes to do. Oh the hardship of having a broken dishwasher.
