Well me and two of my friends hiked about 4 miles down trails in New Hampshire to camp. We had about 70 pound packs, we are fairly new at it so we don't quite know how to pack light. It was the weekend after Thanksgiving and the temp was 24 at the highest during the day and in the low teens in the (but with the wind it felt colder) We camped from Friday - Sunday. It was very uncomfortable and we did it willingly.

Bear,
I am sure a lot of people want to know how much you confer with your camera crew. Since we can't see you 24/7 on your missions there has to be some conversations and interaction with these guys. And who are these people, I have yet to see a show where you introduce them. I spent 8 years in the Infantry in the US ARMY in Alaska and find a lot of the things you do right on the money. Keep it real!

Bear Grylls, I just want to say that you have truly inspired me. Your show along with your everest book have made me realize how great the outdoors are. You have become my hero. Everything you do makes me want to be like you, especially your strength through your Christian faith. When I get older, I really want to get into some climbing, and it's all because of you. Thank you so much.

Bear-
This is a posting I just left on a newpaper's website. Just want you to know how much you're respected and enjoyed. You're the Man (vs. ...)!
-Jesse

-I grew up in a ski town in the Rockies. Have camped many times in Utah's Canyonlands. Yet Bear Grylls demonstrated skills that made me feel like an infant.
-Of course he has a research staff. Look at any episode, none of the 'Survival Consultants' are the same!
-So what if someone showed him how to make a raft out of bamboo and then disasembled it.
-Does anybody really think this man is an expert at every environment he challanges? No one is.
-This guy is a Man's man. Period.
-But that doesn't make him a fake. Squeze some dung in your mouth, Doubters.

-Bunch of 'Have nots'!

-GET SOME, BEAR!!!

Bear-
-I just left a posting, I got a response that said my posting wouldn't be displayed until it had been approved due to it's inclusion of "trigger words".
-All I know is that I think you're an inspirational, genuine, tough-as-nails man. Your positive nature makes me chuckle. Your passion has brought tears. Your prowess leaves me in awe.
-I grew up in the Colorado Rockies and have decent survival training. I've lost a friend to the Wild (avalanche).
-You offer real solutions to brutal scenarios. You are an EDUCATOR.
-If nothing else, I HAVE LEARNED FROM YOU. THANK YOU.

Bear, being ex-airforce, i can really appreciate your skills, we did survival training also.

Something that i would find interesting would be to be able to follow your footsteps as per a google map interface.

My son, aged 9, thinks the stuff you eat is gross but, i have been teaching him wilderness survival skills since the day he could walk...

Somehow as we find our way through the woods, we always seem to have a chocolate snack tucked away, they taste better than worms...

go figure!

Cheers For the New Year.

The TRUTH is, Bear, many people are still deeply offended by the controversy.

The original episodes, when compared to the new transparencies, reveal a startling amount of deception. It seems you didn't catch any fish (or any other prey) and much of the show was staged.

And in the new episodes, I've yet to see anything that reveals much survival training. Why did they bring in a cobra just so you could confront it and shake a stick at it? And the way you keep eating bugs, I keep expecting to see Joe Roagan come out and the FEAR FACTOR logo to come on the screen.

This thread is like a super-censored korean election rally for Kim Jong. "Oh we love you great leader!"

I doubt many of us here would be willing to spend even a few hours in Siberia or in the desert or jungles. He does it. Whether he has a crew, a bottle of water or a portable air-conditioner, it doesn't matter. He's still out there. He actually did throw himself into a freezing pond, he actually did jump into quicksand and into a mud pit. I wouldn't, even if I had twelve of the strongest men alive there to pull me out if something went wrong.

What he does is show us what you can and can't eat, how you can hunt, find and cook food if you're in that position, how to make shelter. Did he catch the fish? I don't know. I don't care. He's out there. Where are you? Sitting in front of the TV watching. So criticism is a bit unfair, isn't it?

But don't tell me that it isn't extremely uncomfortable for him to do some of the things that he does. Some of it is, despite safety precautions, still quite dangerous. He has a wife and kids at home and I, for one, wouldn't want to see him putting himself in grave danger just to make a bunch of "purists" happy.

And what is it about human nature that makes people glory in the perceived "downfall" of our heroes? You'd think we didn't actually want anyone to be able to look up to...

Anyway, I don't care. I like watching Bear. I don't plan to ever find myself in those situations, and doubt I ever will, but the one that he teaches that can't be argued is, to me, the most important. Keep going, have faith and don't lose hope.

Don't bother to reply to this. I'm not looking for an argument. I just wanted to state my views. And honestly, why bother to keep up the bashing? Why? Do you have nothing better to do than sit here and try to make him look as bad as possible? Talk all you like about how "Dangerous" it would be to follow his advice, but until you get out there and start proving him wrong, you're really not helping anyone, are you?

man, there's alot of venom floating around in here. We all agree it's a good show, some folks just put more stock in what they see than others. If people want to trust what they see on a t.v. show to keep them alive in a survival situation, then I call it Darwin's theory. Anywho, good show, but that's all.

I tried to post this once, but your name is a trigger word in posts. I find it odd that the name is allowed.

Why do you feel you have to come here and insult people? And what's with your name? My guess is you're 13 years old and find that you have to swear and insult people, instead of trying to get a valid point across.

I read your posts, you offer no evidence that support any of your claims. Why bother posting if you don't put any more than 7 words a post?

Dear Bear,
I know thousands of people write to you (no wonder, you're amazing!) but i just wanted to thank you for letting your love for Jesus shine through as well as your courage and strength as you survive in the wild. It's no mystery that God has shown himself many times during your show-so many things you do are on the border of life and death! Well-thank you for giving millions of people the advice they need-good work, and good luck in whatever life brings you!!!

Hi, this is the first time i ever comment and i think ur show is very very very very good. i think u have a very tough stomach for eating all that gross stuff. I hope i dont have to eat the stuff u eat on the show or i might throw upl. Razz i hope u dont get sick and die becuase i dont want ur friends and family to be sad and so that u can keep helping people survive in dangures wild places and u are nice. u are also so lucky u can meet all those animals. i hope ill run my own sencery for big cats and marien animals when i get order. i would do more but ill be able to be better if i forcus on 1-2 animal(s). i cant wait till ur next episode comes out on discovery channel and i hope it is soon.

Most of us do care, being that we read pretty much all the posts here (at least I do), it's important to be able to understand what people say.

And apparently you didn't read over that one either, I won't go into detail with this one, I'll let you do that on your own.

You my sir are lacking, but don't degrade "country boys". Mad

There was an era, like my father's, that working to support the family took priority over attending school. My father was'nt as lazy to use this as an excuse, but determined to be educated.

Either you have no problem about blaming stuff on your kids instead of admitting it yourself, or
as a parent, you're not concerned about your child's skills.

STOP!!!! Do not go out there with less equipment and be like Bear!!!! Wait until you have a lot of experience hiking/camping and read more books/attend classes to learn more on survival. It is not a good idea to go out there with little equipment/food and be like Bear. He isn't what you think he is, read more on this forum, you will find that Bear is less than what the show makes him out to be. Also look at the Survivorman forum, there are some good survival tips there, and here as well.

Joe: Listen to what Bryan says. Despite this show's portrayal, survival is not "fun". Don't expect to just magically be skilled in survival techniques from watching a TV show (especially not this one). You need to first get a book and practice, practice, practice. Secondly, don't go running off without equipment. Bare minimum, if you insist on running off without gear, bring a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) so the rescuers can find you *when* things get bad. More reasonable is to bring a full set of gear and just plan on not using it.

Once again, though, remember: this is TV! Would you emulate Tom Hanks on "Cast Away" because he pretended to be surviving on a desert island? No? Then why would you emulate a different actor (Eddie "Bear" Grylls) pretending to survive on cable? The show is not what it presents itself as. The scenes are discontinuous, shot from a few hundred feet off the side of a road in each case (that's how they're able to get so many people and so much gear in for each shot). The survival skills are performed wrong more often than right, but thanks to camera magic, improperly made fires start anyways, improperly made shelters "work well" (he doesn't actually stay in them), and so on.

I love this show and just might be forced to boy-cot the discovery channel if Man vs. Wild didn't return. I like survival man but I find the information on your show much more useful. I enjoy the knowledge about the animal or insect threats. Glad to hear you are going to be back because I am sick of watching how it's made and dirty jobs!!!

Spend more time thinking out your own life choices instead of questioning anothers. I beleive that it is a great thing to be able to support your family and do something you love in the process. So if that be farming or doing survival shows that feed your family and make you happy, so be it. To be able to do what you love and support your family is heaven on earth and would make you a luck and wise man.

And do you also believe it is a great thing to lie and con others in order to “support your family”? There’s a line that most people would not cross when it comes to “feeding your family” and most people would not “be happy” if they were forced to cross that line. BG obviously could easily support and feed his family without crossing this line and yet he chooses to do so anyway. I don’t see why someone should be praised for doing the kinds of things that we all teach our children are wrong.
