Hey Bear. Just wondering if this was you we might have stumbled upon one day in our travels.
About 3 or 4 years ago, in the Buttermilks in Bishop California. Dusk was setting in, and my friend was stuck on top of a boulder hahah. A guy with an accent wandered across the boulder field, and offered us a rope to get my friend down. Just as he was leaving, he told us he had a show coming up on the Discovery Channel....
Bear, just wanted to put my two cents in here and let you know that you are a true inspiration man! Thank you for your unblinking courage and insatiable curiosity for life. It is certainly rare to come across someone of your caliber in this life. I appreciate your show very much. Peace.
Bear, I thought you might find this amusing. My mom, who was never a huge Man Vs Wild fan has had a change of heart because of your most recent show. For years, ever since I can remember she has been afraid of frogs. She swore up and down that frogs have teeth and they bite. Her four loving children, including myself and our father always laughed at her and told her that frogs don’t have teeth and she has no reason to be afraid of them. Us children (when we were younger) would even go out and find frogs and put them in her bath tub so when she turned the shower on they would start jumping around!!! HAHA it was always so funny watching her run from the bathroom screaming! (It still cracks me up). Anyway, this debate on whether frogs have teeth or not has been going on for a long time but no one ever took the time to look it up. Last Friday night, when your show was on, you had a frog or a toad and you had shown us that it had teeth! All of her children are now grown and out of the house but you can believe it, we ALL got that dreaded “I told you so” phone call! Congratulations Bear Grylls, you gained another fan!!!!!!
Bear, I just want to say how inspirational you really are. Everything that I do is most likely inspired by you. I love the outdoors mainly from you. I'm not copying you, but it seems that you opened the door for me and welcomed me into the beautiful thing you call nature. Thanks so much and best of luck in the future.
Bear, I love your show and I honestly feel more capable when I go hiking (Canada). My favourite aspects are your courage for the crazy stuff and enthusiasm for adventure. Also like that yell you do when you jump or climb a hill
Bear, Just watched the show "Ring of Fire" and I loved it. I will be on a cruise on a private 47' Catamaran next year and would like to visit the island in the show. Could you make public the GPS location so I can try to visit ? Thanks
New fan here. Loved the show. Then was disappointed with revelations about staying in hotels, rafts being built etc. I won't pretend to know exactly what goes on. I like Les Stroud's survivorman and am amazed at how he does that all alone, but think that sometimes the show suffers because of the lack of camera crew.
Why not get the best of both worlds? Keep doing MAn vs WILD but do it all alone. Do it all for real, spend the entire time out there, do it all on your own, warts n all. Have the camera crew there to get great footage, to back you up in case something goes horribly wrong, to allow you not to have to worry about camera work but allow you to focus on the survival and the adventure..... ...minimal contact with them, only the essentials, no aid at all from them unless its an absolute emergency.
I think you have a great TV personality, natural enthusiasm, everything you do on the show is great and you clearly have the skills and ability to be able to do this. I think if the show was more like what I described above it would lift it head and shoulders above any other.
Also like to add that I am very inspired by your being so open and unashamed about your faith. Two great books to recommend (you may have read them already) - WILD AT HEART by John Eldredge -THE BARBARIAN CALL - by Erwin Raphael MacManus
bear, my name is Scott, i am 29 years old and your "average joe". your show is great! i watch you all the time. the purpose of your show is to teach average people how to survive with the recourses around them. what better way to show people it can be done then bring an average person with no special training with you. i no there are a lot of skeptics about the validity of your show. what better way then to bring someone with you to show all the doubters it is the real deal! I have 2 very young sons and would like to show them one day that their dad is or was a tough S.O.B. naturally I would sign any waivers needed and would be a testament to the validity of your survival skills, plus I think your ratings would go through the roof. feel free to contact me through my email address if you're interested.

Just wanted to let you know that up until today this show was my 2 girls' favorite show. Now I have to pretty much ban it until I watch it first. I found them watching the Siberia episode today and came into the room just in time to see Bear's nude body with a small faded patch just below the waist. Nudity is not allowed in my house and I certainly do not want my young children watching that! I am really disappointed. Just the other day on another episode my daughter noticed a tribal woman showing her breasts. I let that go because that is just how they live and it is not shameful there to be without shirts. But the naked bear thing did it for me. Discovery channel was one that I was never worried about my kids watching. Now I am.
Mr Grylls, Me and my son watch your show Man Vs. Wild friday nights. He loves your show, as do I. We want to say thank you for taking time out to write books that we can read and making shows that we can enjoy. Yamaha's dada
Hello, my name is Rick and work behind the scenes for Denny Schaffer--an internet talk show host that broadcasts between 10am & Noon EST from Atlanta. Other than reaching numerous listeners all over the globe, he has an affiliate in Toledo--WCWA.
The other day he mention that he would really like to interview Bear. I can imagine that Bear has a very busy schedule and that time slot (10am & Noon) may not work. Denny could schedule a time where they could do a recorded interview to be played the next day.
If there is any chance of this happening, please have your "people" call Denny any time at 1-866-99-Denny (1-866-993-3669). He has voice mail and can be reached any time of day. If that number doesn't work, you can call his affiliate in Toledo at 419-240-1230 and ask for Rob, his producer.
This is not a hoax or prank. You can check Denny's web page at www.dennyradio.com for further information.
I'm known as Pittsburgh Rick and thank you for your time.
The nak*ed bear thing really did it for me too. Does it for me every time. Never fails to put a smile on my face. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Stay free and wild, good show man!
Bear, THANK YOU for making a WONDERFUL Show!! The Scenery, Photography and Life-Saving Education you offer is absolutely FANTASTIC! I am a fan of yours and (sorry) Les Stroud. Were MvW and Survivorman the only two shows on TV, I would be content!
Please Bear, Above & Beyond...PLEASE be careful, no TV Show is worth critically injuring or killing yourself & depriving your Family of Husband & Father. I hope to keep watching your show for many, many Seasons to come. Oh, Lt Cdr? Seems to be a Helluva waste of a damn fine Enlisted Man!
Since school's out, it's hard to find ways to keep my son learning. Last night I decided to play one of the MvW quizzes. My son learned alot and we plan to do it nightly. They're a short, quick way to stimulate the brain. He still spoke about the Hawaii quiz this morning.
I would like to see bear try make it a week in the mississippi delta during dead heat of summer. I'm sure he could suffice but it's bad here i wouldn't wish it on anyone to get stranded here.
I know this has probably been mentioned before, but I'd like to reiterate that I think it would be a great idea to bring someone along for an episode with little to no survival training, and show them the ropes, so to speak. Of course I would love to do such a thing (or I wouldn't be writing this), but I'm sure there are probably thousands of others who would volunteer without hesitation. Maybe Discovery should just have a "Average Joe" sweepstakes people can enter.
I'd also like to thank you for the Christian example and witness that you represent. I enjoyed Man vs. Wild already, but when I read your book about summiting Everest and learned about your faith, I gained an entirely new respect for you.
Thanks for what you do and for at least partly fulfilling people's desire for adventure. It's a good escape to watch you in Patagonia and the Everglades even though I'm stuck in an office.
