If only steve irwin were alive to see this...was it really necessary for Bear to cut the head off of a snake, then take a bite out of it, and then wrap it around his neck as he walked off. That was disturbing. I'm fine with killing and eating animals in real survival situations. But was that really life or death? I'm sure he walked about 10 seconds with that snake around his neck, then threw it away. I know Bear will do anything on camera for ratings, but at least when he's squeezing water out of poop into his mouth he's not needlessly brutalizing wildlife....

Are you fricking kidding me? Seriously? Like, please, you have to be joking. Its called SURVIVAL for a reason. Hes teaching you survival techniques. If you can eat a snake, you eat a snake. Its not a big deal. Its ONE snake out of like 3 trillion. Seriously. Thats ridiculous. This is a waste of a thread.

Disturbing? This damn conversation is disturbing.

If your not a vegetarian, look up slaughterhouses. If you are, protest against slaughterhouses, not here.

You call any of that an attack. LOLOL.... Did you forget we're all anonymous here, who cares.

An attack is when you call someone a liar, a cheat, a fraud, a fake, and assign it all to a real person using their REAL NAME. This is how you and you're buddies "Attack" (your word not mine) Bear Grylls everyday here.

I completely with agree with this post, all the hard work many environment and animal lovers have done over the years to help people learn and respect the animals we share this planet with is being undone by this jerk who thinks they're all just trash to be slaughtered for the so-called "entertainment" factor of his show. It's distasteful and he is a moron.

Wow, thats quite an opinionated statement there pal. lol. Those animals are expendable. In survival situations (I know I know, hes not really in one blah blah blah) everything is fair game. If he has to kill a few animals, which BTW, hes only killed a handful, then its necessary. I've killed MANY more animals than him. So what? Get over it.

Some snakes are cool to me. Others, not so much. I'd eat one in a heartbeat if necessary. Kill one even faster.

Do people actually have snake farms?

Master, what is that? we both got it! We were doing so good. I was experimenting, but you're the normal, funny dude that doesnt really cut people down that often. WTF? lol. I cant believe this! At least we know its not just critics though...

May I ask you to look at a map? Human sprawl is crowding out the natural world. We need to respect it. So that is why NOT!
The philosophy held by Native American peoples is a good example. No stone was moved or disturbed as the effect would be unknown. It may cause a chain reaction leading to a disruption in natures balance or cycles.
Sadly, it is hard for persons living in industral society to embrace such notions. The general attitude is dismissive at best. We are willing to destroy ecosystems in favor of business and convience. We allow and encourage cutting trees, and wasteing much of it for the finest timber. Using all of it would cut into profits.
When a buffalo was taken by native Americans it was used. All of it. The meat eaten, the hide was for blankets or shelter, the bones and hoves fashioned into tools. The skull was used in ceremony to thank their Gods for the "gift".
When was the last time you were really thankful for something?

I care about the environment sure, but would you really NOT kill an animal in a survival situation. And again, as I've stated before, ITS ONE SNAKE, ITS EXPENDABLE.

I'm with you on a snake is just a snake. Usually one less will make me feel better. That being said, I believe in the preservation of natural habitats. So don't take what you don't need. Really need. Three days out in a survival situation, anything moving is fair game.
Snakes (poisonous variety) pose risk that does not outway reward in my book. Remember, you're starving, lost, mind isn't clear and reflexes not sharp. The snake has better than a home team advantage. Go eat a berry.

FreshHeir, i meant that us Christians believe in being thankful for our blessings and stuff every day. That's what we do lol.

so where does that leave you yougofirst? You kind of contradicted yourself in that last post.

My contradiction is the difference between a snake in the wood that I can walk around and the great American copper-headed-rattle-mocasin that is endangering my child.

I love meat, from Chilis or Texas Roadhouse or Ruby Tuesdays. But I don't look out on the Painted Desert or Great Smokey Mountains and think "All you can eat buffet".

lol!

...Waitaminute. You were being serious? Urban sprawl crowding out animal species =/= hunting/killing animals for food. Non sequitor.

Bear Grylls is totally justified in killing animals when he wants to EAT. It is part of the food chain. When people want to eat, we kill something. Whether it is an animal or a plant, you have to kill to eat, get over it, it is a fact of life. Besides, all animals are going to die, I would rather go out in a bang on T.V. than rotting away in obscurity.
Besides, it is not not right to judge what somebody has to do to eat when you are sitting on a couch at home with climate control. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

And to respond to those who say that Bear kills animals for ratings, in a way you're right. How interesting do you think a show teaching survival tips would be if he pulled out a can of tuna everytime he got hungry? That's Survivorman's job.

And a question to anyone who knows:
What is the best material to use when making a snare like Bear does?
I have tried, and actually caught a rabbit in my back yard (don't worry animal freaks, I was just saving our garden from these cold blooded killers. Bunnies aren't that innocent afterall), but it chewed its way out, and unlike Bear, I don't tote around parachute cord.

nice post man. I like your style lol.

Did you set the trap right? Because they're generally supposed to get hung or strangled. I've used shoelaces and it worked fine.
