Just a quick note to say hello, and welcome to the Discovery Man Vs. Wild message board. I'm the Fan Moderator for these forums. Please feel free to use this thread if you have any questions regarding upcoming episodes, and things of that nature. If you have any fan suggestions, feel free to post them here as well. I'm more than happy to receive your input. Enjoy the board!
Note: Mod Ivy is, and will continue to be in charge of enforcing the Visitor Agreement, so please address those types of questions to Mod Ivy. ~Thank You
Note: For those who may be confused, or curious...the term "Fan Mod" is merely in reference to the fact that my job duties are limited to this particular program (ie Man Vs. Wild), whereas there are other moderators who's duties are not limited. ~Thank You

Melissa, have you had any luck convincing bear that it would be in his best interest to pop in here from time to time? At least more than he has before.
In the past I couldn't blame him for not, I wouldn't have got close to this place either LOL. But the climate MAY be changing a bit, as in less confrontational for him.
At this point in time we're implementing the new 'Ask Bear' system because as I'm sure you can imagine, Bear's schedule is extremely hectic with filming, etc. We'll be passing the 5 most popular questions on to him (per your votes), and we'll get his answers posted up as soon as possible. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted if I hear anything interesting, and if we can tweak this system in the future, I'll be sure to let you all know about that as well.

I noticed when i came to the Discovery home page, that in the "tv shows" area, Man vs. Wild isn't there anymore. It's been replaced by other shows. Now when i want to find MvW i have to type it in the search bar. What's up with that? They probably could've taken Smash Lab off the home page instead...
Just curious, thanks.
Hi MasterMisfit,
'Man Vs. Wild' is back into the 'TV Shows' quick link listing on the Discovery home page. Perhaps it was a glitch, or you just happened to have caught it during a content swap...whatever the case, it's thankfully back up and I appreciate you bringing this to my attention!!
Dear mod- I have reviewed the visitor agreement policy and fail to see how I have violated it. Seeing as you are the new and improved “interactive mod” I would appreciate it if you would explain to me exactly what I did that resulted in my original account being suspended (backcountry164). Thank you.

Please reference the "Note:" section of my opening post above, which states that questions pertaining to the Visitors Agreement should be addressed to Mod_Ivy.

I read your “note” when you first posted it. However, since you are the one editing posts here it doesn’t seem to make much sense to direct my questions at a different mod. If you are saying that she is the one who banned me and has deleted my posts then I will ask her. Circumstances seem to indicate otherwise so it seemed appropriate to direct my question to you.

Banning users, placing users on moderation and/or deleting posts are a part of enforcing the Visitor Agreement. With that stated, I believe I've already answered your question. If you need further clarification...once again, please reference the following quote:

Thanks in advance.
Job descriptions are Discovery's prerogative, but if you'd like, I can refer your question to them. You may or may not get an answer; that is out of my hands. If you prefer, you can also use the "Contact Us" button.

I have used the "Contact Us" option. However, I do find it a bit odd that you either can't tell us or won't tell us your duties. You clearly detailed the duties of Mod_Ivy for us. Does Mod_Ivy's job description not fall under 'Discovery's preogative'? I understand the duties entailed in the regular moderation of a forum, but am curious about what a "Fan" mod would be needed for. I guess I will have to wait for an answer or wait to see how/if the forums change with your "Fan" moderation.

Just so there are no misunderstandings, I did not detail the duties of Mod_Ivy; I merely pointed out one aspect, to make it clear where particular questions should be directed. Several questions regarding certain disciplinary actions were being addressed towards me, and I was simply being helpful by clarifying that particular aspect, so that those with questions have the opportunity to have them addressed. Sorry, but as I previously stated, job descriptions are in fact the prerogative of Discovery. If they wish to disclose the information, that's their prerogative, and you by all means may take this up with them as you see fit. I referred your question, and unfortunately, there's nothing else for me to say on the matter.

Melissa, is there going to be any special at the end of Season 4 like there was at the end of Season 3? I loved Bear Eats. It was probably one of my favourite episodes, although I love them all.
hey Mod there are many frequently asked questions for Bear maybe you should create a link to Frequently Asked Questions kindof like what Rowe has on Dirty Jobs
Just discovered the show a week ago. Loved it. Until I read about all the allegations about nights in hotels, crew or support staff building rafts etc etc...
Now I can't watch the show without wondering what is real and what is not.
On Les Stroud's Survivorman show, the viewer knows the rules. They are clear, simple, explicit. He's alone. Easy.
I don't mind that Bear has a camera crew with him, in fact I think it frees him up to do exciting stuff that makes the show better.
But now I am watching the Sahara episode and the whole way through I'm wondering now.....
Is Bear getting water from the crew? He must be...two of the crew (who I assume have a good supply of water) have apparently been evacuated with heatstroke....but Bear...who supposedly has almost none...is still powering on...
Is Bear sleeping where it's filmed to look like he's sleeping? Or is he sleeping in a tent with the crew?
Is bear getting food from the crew? If so then why does he eat the scorpion, camel spider, lizard etc?
I love the bits where he eats crazy foods...but if he doesn't even need to do it...if it's just done for entertainment value...it would be cheap and tacky...
Look....whatever the production team ends up doing with the show, whether they want to make it a credible survival show or an entertainment guy runs around climbs some things and eats some bugs show.....at least make it clear to the audience what the rules are.
So my question-what are the rules for Bear and the show?
And my suggestion-Make these clear with each episode.
Otherwise you are cheating the viewers. And you can't just fall back on legalities and say - "well, we never explicitly said that he was doing this and that"
it's the equivalent of a husband saying to his wife..."well, I never lied to you, I never actually said that I WASN'T cheating on you"
Either way you slice it, it's deceptive and intentionally vague.
Don't get me wrong. I love the show. Bear seems like a really, genuine, capable, knowledgeable guy.
I haven't received any information regarding a new special, but that doesn't mean one isn't possible, or even already in the works. If I receive any word, I'll be sure to get the info out about it.
As for the "Photo Caption Fun" photos...I would love to take credit for them, but I can't. They were created by other people, and given to me to post up on the forum. They are quite creative, and with any luck, I'll have more to share soon!!
Hey Melissa, do you guys ever intend to ban by ip address. I'm wondering this because I note a lot of the criticism is coming for 2 or 3 people. For example some guy comes with a name like radxx, then makes another account radxx1. Then makes another account radxx2 and so on.
It's much easier to ban them by ip address and if they want to post again, they would have to appeal the ban rather than make another account. This way, they must acknowledge the reason they were banned.
Aside from saying that we're aware of the situation, I hope you understand that this is something I wont discuss on the forums. Please feel free to use the "Contact Us" link to pass on your concerns to Discovery, and if and when you come across posts that disturb you in any way, please also feel free to use the "Report This Post" button. Thank you however for bringing this to my attention!!
