Dear mr.Grylls,If you had the chance to use your new found stardom to make the world a better place. What would you do?Most respectfully summitted,Discovery 785.
Dear Bear, i know you are really busy with tv and your Everest parajets attempt but i would love to know if you have any plans in the future to write another book as i really enjoyed your first two. I know you have a book out on survival in April but I hope you may have time for another book based on your life experiences. Good luck and take care to you and your team on your parajets attempt in May.
Guys I will try and respond to as many as these as I can- I leave for more filming tomorrow and am madly getting prepped- but will have a few mins beforehand...wait out! Bear
Hi Bear, My husband and I are big fans of the show we absolutely love it. I wish we could do some adventure stuff being young with a baby makes it hard to leave the home. So my question for you is have you ever thought about bringing a normal person on the show to show how your tactics can work for anyone even if they have no experience? My husband and I'm sure other men or women would love that! Well anyway keep up the good work and don't listen to anyone their not the ones feezing their butt off and drinking elephant pooh, so you are awesome and I saw you on Oprah and your family is beautiful!! Can't wait for the new season so we can learn more about survival tactics even if we never get stranded we do camp and we will use some of your tactics for fun!! Thanks K.T.
I love the fact that you explain and identify the use of many plants. If possible, could you provide a list of these plants, their uses, and how to identify them? Thanks for a great show and the survival tactics that you have taught. Absolutely fascinating stuff.
I have enjoyed your show so far, although I would rate the destinations I have seen to date as adventure holiday destinations (Sierras, Alps, Safariland, Moab). I am interested in learning how you deal with something a little more challenging. Might I suggest the Simpson desert/Lake Eyre region of central Australia?
Dear Bear, i tune in to discovery channel every friday to watch Man vs Wild, but then the new episodes stopped. I was wondering why, do you need new ideas for the show? I was also wondering what it was that you said you could burn in Africa that would keep the bugs away? Thanks! From Italia in Italy
A: From 1994 to 1997, I served with the British SAS (21 SAS). I passed U.K. Special Forces Selection, serving as a sabre soldier, highly trained in unarmed combat, desert and winter warfare, combat survival, medics, parachuting, signals, evasive driving, climbing and explosives. I served actively in North Africa twice (details classified).
In late 1996, I broke my back in a free-fall parachuting accident in southern Africa. I spent a year in and out of military rehabilitation back in the U.K. In late 1997, I climbed Mt. Ama Dablam in the Himalaya, a peak once described by Sir Edmund Hillary as "unclimbable."
Then, in May 1998, as part of a small military team of four soldiers, myself and my best buddy Neil Laughton (he's an ex-captain with the Royal Marines Commandos and 21 SAS) summited Everest. I turned 24 10 days later. I signed off from 21 SAS in late 1998.
Q. Could you tell us about your forthcoming book, Born Survivor: Bear Grylls (aka Stranded)?
A. It is a culmination of all that I have learned about staying alive in hostile places. It is based around my military training, Man vs. Wild experiences and past expeditions.
Bear, just wanted to say I love your show. Especially the one in Kenya as I will be going there later this year. Keep up the good work!
Gigi ~p.s. Don't pay any attention to the negative comments in some of the posts here. Those posters are just jealous! Let's see how well they would do if it were them!
A. Flint and striker, so I can light a fire however tough it gets -- lifts my spirit always and has often saved my bacon! My Christian faith: high mountains and my time in the military taught me that it takes a proud man to say he needs nothing, and I need my faith. And, finally, a laminated picture of my family tucked inside my shoe.
I was wondering if you or your crew have to take any anti-biotics or shots after filming. I would imagine you have gotten some nasty parasites out in the wild.
First of all, let me just add, along with all of your other supporters, that I think your show is awesome and that your life is awesome. What an adventure!
Secondly, would you ever consider doing a Man vs. Wild where you were not only responsible for your own survivle, but also responsible for someone else? In other words, taking someone with you on one of your trips and helping them survive, as well as yourself.
I know its a crazy question, but I think it would make for a great show.
Great show, the show is awesome. I have every show tivo'd and have learned so much from watching. I have even been able to try a few of the things you have shown us. I appreciate your authenticity and attention to detail. Can't wait for next season.
Any plans to do a show in the Florida Everglades?
On the show you use a drink cup, which I believe you also use as a kettle(cook pot). The one you often have hanging from a rope; around your body.
Where can I find this? I do quite a bit of ultralight backpacking and would really like to purchase something like it. I have searched the internet, but cannot find anything that looks like the one you use.
Thank you in advance for your time to answer this email. Robert MDFD/Engine 8
Mr. Grylls, I've just finished watching the first season of Man Vs. Wild, and I have a a few questions. What do you do when you first find civilation? Is someone waiting to pick you up? Wheres the toughest place you are going in the next season? How long do you usually get before you jump out of another helicopter? Keep up the good work b-grylls. tombotron
hey bear, love the show. Im not an experienced mountaineer by far, however i am going out to washington to climb Mt Baker (on the easton glacier). Its only about 11,000' and is a 2 day climb i think. This would be the highest i've climb so far. Any good advice to take with me?
I’m a student at the University of California, Los Angeles and after watching your show, I’ve joined the U.C.L.A. Outdoors Adventures Society. There’s only one problem, I don’t know where do buy outdoor clothing for my upcoming hiking trip to Big Sur.
So my question is three-fold: What brand of shirts, pants and shoes do you wear? Keep up the great work, you are a real inspiration.
Sincerely, Adam J. Gonzales
Post-Script: You know what would be wild, if you get dropped into a third world country, ravaged by civil war and you have to make it back to civilization i.e., your embassy.
I saw the rocky mountain episode and I have a question about a certain scene.
You showed us how to do a hand drill and your fire board was glowing red all around the whole. Since I know a lot about fire by friction, I know that this would never happen from a hand drill. So how did you guys get that shot? Did you put a blow tourch up to it?
Dear "Bear", In the Costa Rica episode why did you drink directly from the stream, is it not irresponsible to demonstrate this to viewers who might try the same thing.
