Hello, My name is Andrew, I hail from Brownstown Michigan, United States.
My question for Mr.Grylls is 2 things, first is out of all his accomplishments in his relatively short life, which does he consider his greatest. Second, I read somewhere that his Father Sir Micheal Grylls was what got him into climbing, what had gotten His father into climbing? You don't have to answer if any of the question's offend you.

Thanks for the questions ... keep them coming!

Q. What advice would you give someone who is very passionate about survival but has very little money and would like to hone his skills? unrulyierulli

A. Go work in a survival school and spend your free time hiking, climbing, kayaking, etc. At least you'll stay fit! Go for it -- there's an amazing world out there.

Q. I've had a lot of survivor experience and gone through a number of different knives, ranging from ones made by Leatherman, which I like because of the sharpener that comes with all their knives. I have also used a variety of hunting knives, fixed and folding blades; the problem with some of these knives I have found is that they don't hold up very well, and I was wondering what type of knife you use.
survivorjeff

A. I have tried most knives as well, and it's quite personal, I guess, but I designed my own knife having found none had quite what I wanted: a very solid knife of hardened steel with an easy-release sheath but one that's not too big! Look at bayley knives on the web, though remember, ultimately it's the workman, not the tool!

Q. I was just wondering what you thought about the Boy Scouts and what they do.
texasurvivor

A. Scouts are fantastic: They teach kids to enjoy and respect the outdoors, and to use nature, not to be scared of it. I'm a fan!

Q. A friend came to me and told me he really wanted to see how you get out of quicksand. What I want to know is if you have any second thoughts about the stuff you do, and if you get nervous about being nude on television.
garcanno

A Yep, I'm often nervous doing all this stuff, but nerves are OK; I just do my thing and trust my instincts.

Regarding nudity .... I never think about any of my stuff being on TV -- that is too scary! I just get on and do what I do and let the camera guys try and keep up!

Bear in mind also most of the time I am not exactly looking my best! Caked in mud, freezing cold or sweating hot, struggling to light fire, eating maggots, etc. I definitely have to forget about the camera.

Q. What was your rank while you were with the UKSF TA? From what I have gathered your father was a politician, how did he get into climbing?
lord_andross

A. I was a trooper in 21 SAS, then awarded an honorary commission with the Royal Navy as a lieutenant-commander.

My father taught me to climb, having learned as a Royal Marine commando when he was young ... although that's forgivable! He was a very special man.

Hey Bear, I think your show is awsome. I've always been interested in this short thing. So a few years ago went out and bought a book called SAS Survial Handbook is this a book I can rely on or is there a better book out there. I would appreciate if you could tell me either way. O by the way this book was based from the British Special Air Service. Thanks

Dear Bear,
I absolutely adore your show, and the fact that you are British Wink. I plan to go to Oxford, but that is a whole different story. (Oh, and I am in love with you accent.) I was pondering if you ever find it quite difficult to talk while showing hot to get out of a "sticky" situation. I always wondered how you talk to the camera while in a frozen lake, or suspended over a frozen mountain, or climbiing a tree over an alligator infested water.
BY, the way do the cameramen have survial eqiupment? Oh, and do you enjoy eating fish straight from the river, or ants from a log, or termites from digested wood?
I wish you and your family only the best,
Love, The Best

Dear Mr. Grylls,

Simply put - the show is amazing! In the middle of the night during these adventures - how often are you mediating on the word of God and or praying? And what versuses if any are you going over in your mind?

Many Blessings

Dear Bear,
I am writing from Lewiston, Idaho. I love your show so much!! I have two questions for you. At the end of each program you sometimes find a house or a road that leads you to civilization again. Who are the people that you find and how do you explain what you are doing when you see them? Have you ever been on one of these roads looking for "help" and a car just passes you by? If you are ever in Hells Canyon on the Snake River, I'd pick you up for sure!!!!

dear mr.grylls,
i am only 13 years old and yet i am fascinated with your techniques of survival.
i have several questions though. do you do this daily, or only when the producers want you to? does the cameraman get scared following you? i know i would. and last, when is the next season coming out???

Mr. Grylls,

Had you not been injured, do you think you would have made a career out of the military, and if not how much longer were you planning on staying in?

Q: What does your wife think of all the things you do?
Ramxem

A. She's very long-suffering! It has been a tough year being away so much then so exhausted at home. But she has been an angel and is always my strongest reason for coming home.

Q: Would you ever consider writing a book that has outdoor/survival recipes? I think it would be awesome to have the recipe for most of the stuff you kill/hunt/find on your show ... plus more.
Wannabebear

A. I thought you would have figured by now that I'm a lousy cook!

Q: What can you do to boil water when you don't have a pot or a metal cup that you carry?
kcha14543

A: You can actually boil water in just a plastic water bottle as long as you place it over -- not in -- the fire. Strangely the water inside stops the plastic from melting so you don't really even need a cup. It's a cool party trick!

how much research goes into the planning of each "adventure" so to speak?
