So, my mother gave me this cream to use to help rid of the dark spots on my face. (The cream is some type of peeling regimen (similar to retin-a).) After not using it for a good 5 days, I decided to wax my eyebrows (thinking it would be okay). Boy, was I wrong! The wax peeled a thin layer of my skin off and began to sting when the "after-waxing" ointment was applied. The aesthetician said that it would scab. It did and the scab actually peeled off in 3 days or so. But the problem I am having now is that a rash has occurred. It is red and itches terribly. Also, hives have formed in the previously scabbed area. I don't know what to do. I called my doctor and am waiting for a phone call back to make an appointment, but in the mean time, I am itching like crazy and I don’t know what to do. Is there some type of ointment I can use to subdue the itching and redness (I tried neosporin+pain relief)? Is it normal for the skin to hive after something like this?
It sounds like an allergy to either the after wax ointment or the wax itself. When the aesthetician said that the skin would heal and scab in 3 days, that is usually the case. In your case,it sounds more like an allergic reaction of some sort. Having the skin already in a state of trauma probably just activated the problem. I would try taking some kind if oral antihistimine (bendryl) and or apply topical steriod like hydrocortisone to stop the itching and burning. Hope this helps and good luck!!!! When the scab does come, dont pick at it because you do not want a scar.
