Please help! So here is the story I got a tattoo on my buttock's about 2 weeks ago. I was using A&D ointment on it. Then I got the bright idea to put vasoline on it with a piece of plastic wrap as it was peeling and getting dried out. After I did this the very NEXT day which would be Saturday 11/21/09 I started getting a red pimple like rash on my buttock cheek around the tattoo. It is now Tuesday 11/24/09 and now the rash has spread to cover my whole butt cheek and I have 2 big Boils on my back around the hip area. I have a boil on my chin along with 2 pimples on my chin. I have tried every over the counter creams and I have soaked in Epsom salt. I am at the point now where I don't know what to do and I am very embarrassed to go to a doctor (but if I have to I will). I have 3 other tattoos and I have never had a reaction like this before. Please help! Any advice would be appreciated.

The extent of your symptoms makes me think it's a bacterial skin infection--such as streptococcus--as a result of getting a tattoo. You could have contracted it from the equipment or sometime in the healing process. I would definitely go see a dermatologist as soon as possible. If it is a bacterial infection you will need to be prescribed antibiotics. Good luck and feel better!

Is it really a pimple or a rash? I think that's natural in terms of having a tattoo. All you can do is to clean that always using some clean or sterilize materials. Do not always irritate it because it can cause an infection, that's the bad thing you don't want to happen. I think it is infected a little bit. Just clean it and also check that out to the doctor for more medications.
