I just purcashed 4 mollys today 2 male and 2 female and I belive one of the females is pregnant. She seems very large around the belly and I currently have her in a birthing enclosure. Will this stress her to much and is there anyway to tell when the babys will be born?
Also I have dalmation and another type of molly can they interbreed?
yes they can interbreed. she may be pregnant but if she is a transfer to early is too much stress and can kill her its happend to me before i hope this helps!
yes, all breeds of mollies will interbreed with one another.
its possible that the breeding enclosure can stress them out to a point where they will actually reabsorb their young.
there isnt really a good way to tell when they will be born unless you know the time of copulation. the gestation peroid is about 32 days. also keep in mind that your mollies will continue to breed beyond the capacity that your tank can hold, so at some point if you arent planning on keeping all the young, seperate the males and females. even then, females can store packs of sperm inside them.. enough to last them for broods up to 6 months.
