no, im not claiming ownership of anything, im just saying it would be alot easier for all of us to keep track of the same discussion on one post. its too confusing to have a ton of posts asking the same thing.

NEED it, not really, but it is better to have it for sea anenome's which they do need. they live in them in their natural environment. Im not sure if anenomes can attach to the sand or if they need to attach to rocks.

Clownfish are not that hard to keep, but I assume you want an anemone too. I wouldn't recommend that yet, since you were unsure about the purpose of live rock. Sound like you are just starting out with saltwater. You need to get something like a damsel first. Learn about what the anemone needs, kinds of lighting, current and water quality.

You can have fake stuff, but live rock isn't hard to use. It's about $5 or $6 a pound, and you can get it cured.

clownfish don't need an anemone... and live rock is useful for biological filtration. anemones need very good lighting and water quality.
