I love my betta Cosmo but sometimes I think I love him too much. I love to spoil him and he knows I won't hurt him so he swims up to me and lets me watch him eat and stuff like that. we are best friends but aside from feeding him 3-5 pellets once a day, I will come over and talk to him and put in one pellet for being a good boy and not hurting himself like he did before we replaced a fake plant and eating all or most of his daily food. I only put in one pellet at a time but I do this like 3 times a day so I think that sometimes he gets too much food. How much and how often should I feed him?

Hmmm.

That is a max of 8 pellets a day.8X7=a max of 56 pellets a week.

I think if you had a skip day 1nce a week where you fed him nothing you'd be okay. That would cut you down to a max of 48 pellets a week.

You should feed only 1 or 2X a day,if 2X then cut the number of pellets in half.

I do that with all my fish, and my bettas live for quite a while.Except I don't even use pellets anymore.I use FD gammarus[Baby shrimp],Frozen brine shrimp and the occasional treat of bloodworms.

Another thing:
Somthing I do so I don't forget water changes,is don't feed the day I do them.

However make sure you are consistant and not just feeding whenever you remember. Wink

Good Luck!

Thanks! I always try to feed him at 2:30pm or near it. I haven't missed a feeding yet because that's when I get home from school so he's used to it but I feed him other times daily. Not too often but enough. Like twice besides the 2:30 one but only one pellet or maybe two. So that's 4+2 a day. I will try to cut down and use smaller pellets. Thanks!

I use animal planet brand food that dispenses one pellet at a time. He normally hacks on the food for a while and chokes it up a few times so should I just put one pellet in then wait until he's done choking on the piece he's eating then put another in until he's eaten around 3?

I reccomend the Hikari Bio-Gold.

It is easy to digest and small so he won't choke Smile

ok. Yeah he hacks on it for a while when he eats it. He hurls his head up and down for a while then he seems to stop. I tried a smaller kind but I think it was from a long time ago and was expired. and I mean a LONG time ago. Like 5 years old at least.
