I don't know if this is normal or not but i bought two algae eaters from my local pet store and one stayed the same color and i thought the other one was dead but s/he just drastically changed color to a pale yeloow lookinh color and i was wondering if this had anything to do with the sex of the fish or just the species beczuse if its the sex i'd love to breed them
The pale color is telling you that he/she is stressed out. I'm not sure if you just put them in the tank recently, but that usually happens when they are introduced to a different environment. Like, if the water chemistry is a little different. Most likely the color will return and your fish will be fine. try shutting the light off. It can help reduce some stress.
no i put the fish in the tank about 2 months ago and i nticed the change about a month and a half ago but it hasn't gone away yet but there no light on the tank because when i recieved the tank it was broken but im not complaining cuz it was for free but its in my room next to the window so it gets light during day time hours so i was just wondering if this change is permanant or not or if it has to do wiht teh sex of the fish beause the fish seems fine
I love those!! I used to have one named Tuna, he was awesome. I think the pale color may be do to just some sort of stress. some fish can handle changes more than others. I'd try testing the water.
no i understand what you mean. I had two of them as well (i ended up giving one to my friend). But one of them was always waaaaay more touchy than the other. Like, even during water changes he would get all pale and breathing really fast. but, He's fine, so i'd just check on the water chem just to be safe, otherwise, your fish is probably fine.
ya i checked all that and he seems fine so i guess hes just made that way but anyways he looks pretty cool and im thinking aobut putting them in my soon to be 55 gallon aquarium
