a polyp is the animal that lives in and creates corals. polyps look just like sea anenomes if they werent contained in their rocky shell. sea anenomes are polyps without a calcified home. what all polyps do is they settle from their larval state (which look exactly like tiny little jellyfish) and form a polyp which just attaches to rocks permanently.
I looked online for live rock and the price of them was at least $100.. Can you but them at places like petsmart.. Because im getting 2 clownfish and every care sheet says i should purchase live rock...
i wouldnt get anything at pet smart. although they have a great selection, the quality of the fish is are almost always horrible. and not always visibly horrible, like, if you get the clownfish at a health pet store then add the live rock from petsmart, chances are you are going to introduce somthing fatal.
nooo,i dident even think about buying fish from petsmart. Nevveerrrr lol. But im still confused about the hole live rock thing.. do you know the hole point of live rocks?? do i need it...i hear it produces good bacteria for the fish.. ahh sullybaby..hhelp me.
live rocks contain micro organisms that aid in bio filtration, so, they filter out things like unbalanced nitrites and nitrates. I dont really think that you absolutely need them, but im sure it is a good idea. I am much better at giving advice for fresh water, i apologize for being vague. but, here is a site i found for salt-water beginners, im sure it will be very helpful http://fins.actwin.com/mirror/sbegin-setup.html
