I want a betta and my mom wants me to get one at Walmart instead of Petco/Petsmart. I keep telling her No, and why I don't want one for there.
The fishes' water is a dark blue or a yellowish brown. The containers are stacked on top of each other. Because of this, I don't think they feed the betta fish. My mom does know one thing about them though. She says the bettas are ones petshops wouldn't take and sell. Personally I don't think they are that healthy anyway.
What evidence can I show my mom to convince her to buy me one at Petco/Petsmart?
Isn't the best food to feed them some type of bloodworms?
I believe the bettas at petsmart are in blue water, or at least the one I go to, so this might no neccesarily mean that they don't take care of them. Petsmart probably takes much more care of them though.
As for the food, you could also feed them pellets. I feed my bettas bloodworms one day, then pellets the other. I don't reccomend flakes, since they dirty up the water.
tell your mom that petco usually gets better fish (genetically speaking) meaning that they are brighter, healthier, will be less predisposed to illness and disease, and will live a longer life.
walmart is more likely to get fish that are cheap. the fish that breeders discard as not being "up to standards" usually land in places like walmart.
If your mom is going to invest into a fish for you, explain to her that for pretty much the same price, petco is a better option. it is a better investment. But, anywhere you go, be sure to only select the healthiest looking, active fish.
I got one from wal mart and it died the day later. I got one from a world of fish, and it lived 5 years. I have one currently from petco and it's totally fine. I have had him for about 3 months so far and he's doing great. Wal mart isn't a pet store. It's like buying a television from a grocery store. It probably isn't the best brand and it will probably give out right away. All of the bettas I've had that have lasted long, came form either petsmart or petco.
I hate wal mart for jacking up all their fish i never buy from wal mart and never will there is a local family run aquarium store near my house and their fish are always extremely healthy
I bought a betta from Walmart about 4 years ago and he's STILL happy and healthy as long as they look healthy don't be put off by where they come from. ~*~*~Much love from Terra~*~
WAll-Mart is terrible for fish tho i can get lucky and get 1 for about a year then it dies most of the time they die in a weak but i went to petco and have a fish that i got 3 years ago + all the others i got fromt there

The reason that the fish are in the blue water is because it helps them stay alive longer. It is a conditioner tha will keep the water clean and stuff like that. They but that in bags with like guppies. It helps keep them calm and it gives the water extra oxygen because they are in the cups/bags for so long. So th eblue water is good for them. But when you buy the fish dump the blue water out because it can;t go in your aquarium.
