Hi, i set my tank up about 11 days ago and added all the necessary treatments, took a sample of the water about 5 days after to my local pet store and he said all levels where low and safe but that i should wait a couple of days for the cycle to end. About 4 ish days ago i added 5 liters of safe water to the tank to fill it up and just recently its kind of cloudy, it isnt that bad but its noticable. I have read a lot of opinions on this but im wondering if i put some fish in (only 2) on tuesday would they be ok?
wait until the cloudyness goes away. it could possibly be a bacteria bloom, so just wait until it goes away, your benificial bacteria may take care of it. does it have a slight tinge of green in it? ive has issues like this with my friends tank once, and changing water only made it worse, so i would try changing the water 25% everyday for 3-5 days, if it doesnt go away, add algae destroyer and this seemed to completely clear my friends tank. i did it in a last ditch effort because i couldnt figure out why the water was so white, and if it was a bacterial bloom, changing water should have made it go away, ive never seen whitish algae before, but the algae destroyer took it all away in about 20 minutes.
if you add the fish when it is a bacterial bloom, they will most likely die, especially during a time of stress, like being transported and added to a new aquarium.
I cant see any green, i "think" it has got better as i say it isnt awful. The fake plant (soft fern) has some sort of whitish stuff on it but the real plants look fine and no bits in the water.
i would just leave it then, let the filter take care of it, but be sure to wait until your tank is clear and your test readings are within normal limits before addint any fish.
The water had cleared up completly this morning and we added two silver sharks to the tank, the water is a tiiny bit unclear again but again it is not bad in any light. The white stuff is still there and we are wondering what it is.
we decided to buy the sharks as we are going to upgrade to a bigger tank in a few months so the sharks will have ample space to swim in!
