Any size tank you should clean at least once a week and do a 15% water change when you clean it!!

and replace the filter cartridge once every month, or every month and a half depending on what you have in your tank.

we just got our tank, so what do you mean by clean, like take out all the fish and give everything a really good deep cleaning, or just clean the sides and change the water?

This may sound stupid, but were not sure what kind of fish they are. But they keep having babys......

Thanx Razz

Well....what i mean by 'clean' is that you should have a vacum for aquariums which you will get the water flowing through it and then stick the one end into the gravel and it will sorta lift the gravel uip a big rolling in around in the tube and then lift the tube up and all of the dirt will go out of your aquarium in to the bucket that you will have below the tank!! When you lift the tube up then the gravel will fall back down and move to the next spot. you will do this to the entire aquarium until it is done!! But do it as fast as you can because you only want to take out 15% of the water. You can scrub the glass with like a 'clean' sponge with no javex or bleach just the normal sponge and scrub the glass and it will discard of the algae that is growing on the glass!!!!
Also what do your fish look like???
if they are having live babies than that means that they are probably either guppis or mollies!! They are the most common!!!
But just tell me what they look like!!! Big Grin

ok thanx....

My fish, i started with two, i got them at Petsmart from the same tank. One is a clearish colored with a redish-orenge head and tail and has spots all over him. The other is yellow-red-orenge (kinda like a sunset). There both transparrent and about two inches long. I dont think they will grow any bigger 'cause the whole time we've had them they haven't grown....

Sorry about the bad spelling.
if you could tell me about them that would be great!!!! Big Grin

Thanx Squirt!

Well just to let you know....that guppies will breed like CRAZY!!!! As soon as the female lays her eggs she is fertilized again. Well and if she is not she will still get fertilized becase when she gets fertilized the first time, she holds some of the sperm in a special pocket and the next time when she needs to be fertilized she will use that sperm. She can do this a couple of times.
lol

Guppies do not lay eggs, they are livebearers.
