ok heres my question this friday i went out for the weekend so i over fed my fish maybe to much not shure when i got back sunday my girl beta looked like she had goten in a fight some of here fins were shot the wate way realy dirty and cloudy because i put it alot of food today mond i went to clean there thanks and it look like some of here skin is missing i have 2 betes but in seprate tanks could this be because of the dirty water what should i do? http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p56/KBlack2595/IMG00047.jpg
its always better to underfeed your fish rather than overfeed them. they would be fine over the weekend with no food.
it sounds like your girl betta may have fin and tail rot which can be treated with products at the pet store, but the conditions you are describing are certainly from dirty water and bad water chemistry.
its hard to tell from the clarity of your pics but in the second one, does that white spot look almost cottony? if so it is most likely a fugus and needs treatment.
treat your fish asap, even waiting 1 day may be too late.
also, i would get a 1-2.5 gallon filtered tank for each of your betta's it keeps the quality of their living arrangements much much better than an unfiltered stagnant bowl.
I agree with kblack. Beta fish will always be fine by themselves in a tank. If you worry about it anyway get some "beta blocks 7 day feeders". I have them and I used them. They don't cloud up your water and they sink to the bottom so your beta can eat as it needs to, rather than you feeding them too much. Then they don't eat it and it just pollutes your water. You can get all sortes of weekend feeders at pet stores. Also while you're there I would definatly ask a vet what to do (you can also ask a fish expert/salesperson in the pet store)about your fin and fungus problem.Your pics are a little blury but I think it's got a fungus problem and serious fin rot. Both are definatly from your poor water. So make sure to get the right chemical/ treatment (even if you have to spend extra $$$$). Isn't it worth it?
