I love the meerkats...all of them. It's getting harder and harder for me to continue watching. I think it is the feeling of helplessness when tragedy hits. I want to jump into the TV and help them all. I will continue to monitor the message boards but I can not watch MM anymore. I am thankful there are people out their who also love those tiny critters and have the strength to watch and post their progress.

I will continue to watch simply because of the "I've got to know what happens next!" factor, but I can defiantly see how you would feel that way. This season defiantly has a darker feel to it then the previous two, and even though I know that life in the wild is usually no picnic, it is disheartening to watch at times.

I do not like watching sad episodes of meerkat manor. But I know I have too because Im scraed I may something because sometimes in a sad episode the producers have good or funny bit in. Anyway I know when the bad episodes are out the way thay should be good episodes because to the whiskers, they hard times are pasted by good times.

The way this season is going, I think it's only safe to watch the first 20 minutes of the show! I kept looking at the time wondering when they were going to deal the crushing blow.

I'm sorry, but I cannot watch this show anymore. I know it is nature taking its course and all that. But why did we really have to sit and watch Carlos suffer to death?? You can't tell me that they could not interfere with nature. We interfere with it everyday. If I remember correctly, at the beginning of the first couple seasons, they showed workers handling the meerkats to study them. So why could they not give antibiotics or at least put him out of his misery. I'm really starting to get disgusted with our excuses as to why we need to watch nature suffer. These meerkats are studied everyday, so wouldn't that be considered interfering??

I know we have talked about this previously, but I still wish the Researchers would have got involved and cleaned Carlos's wound, maybe administered some antibiotics.

They euthanised Big Ci, but they wouldn't euthanise Carlos. Nice.

How do you know Big Ci was euthanised?

Hi
I agree why couldnt they have cleaned carlos up. I will miss him slipping through the bushes after some female. Im still at a loss over shakespear he was my favorite and there has never been a word about him. I love the show but sometimes it is hard to watch.

Have you been here long, melbacake? It's a wide-spread rumor that may or may not have been confirmed that the researchers euthanised him as a result of him carrying TB, a deadly and highly contagious disease.
Since the disease is as nasty as it is, euthanising him was a very smart choice if they did indeed do it, but it also shows that they CAN and WILL carry out the deed. Instead, they let Carlos starve and wither away until his heart shut down, then showed his dead body like it was some show attraction.

Meerkitty, I'm with you. I can't watch anymore. Poor Carlos suffered so horribly. His little hip bones were visible and when he faltered in the one scene standing between the two other kats, it was heartbreaking. My husband stopped watching after Mozart's pups were killed. He said it was just too sad. I'll just lurk here to find out what happened without seeing it on tv.

I'll tell you why they let Carlos suffer. No.1---it makes for dramatic scenes. And No. 2--- they want to see how it all plays out between Kinks and Mozart without Carlos. Again, more drama. That is all there is to it.
They don't care if anyone suffers. The only reason they euthanized Big Sy was because the TB may have killed their project and their "stars".

I doubt if AP made the decision to euthanize Big Cy. Why would the research group give them any control over the events that occur? AP probably has the control over how to portray events, what to edit and so forth.
Obviously, you don't understand what the researchers are trying to accomplish. While we watch "reality TV" and get a glimpse into the lives of some of these meerkat families, everyone knows "reality" isn't always the emphasis on these types of shows.
So if you want to be angry at how the show is presented, be angry with AP. If you want to be angry with the outcome of the meerkats, be angry at the researchers, and mother nature, and God as far as that goes. I don't understand animal instinct, but I'm sure God gave it to them for a reason.

I read that another set of meerkats are dead...two babies! The MM musical commercials are lighthearted but the show itself is dark, how ironic.

I agree, I am undecided if I will continue to watch. I have cried at every episode and I think they need to do a little better job with the editing. I don't know for sure that the last shot of Squiggy crying for help was actually where he lost his life or just clever editing, but I don't think we needed to see that. In the first season, they just told us what happened not let us see the heartbreak. I have already emailed them about the commercials that seemed so cute and lighthearted at first, now that I know the truth I think they are sick and I told them that. I really don't know if I will watch after Flower is gone. That group has survided because of her.

I'm not watching it anymore. I turn the channel when a commercial comes on. I'll just read the board to find out. No need to watch AP go "Yay! Flower's last litter is dead and so is she!"
Unless she pops out another litter before her death.

Ummmmmmm..... if Flower has a radio collar, how did the researchers not know where to find her? My heart just aches so much for the Whiskers & Starsky. I keep saying each week that I cannot take anymore, and then I go and tune in again! It's cruel punishment. At least I know I have all of you here with me feeling the same! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!

This is heartbreaking.....OMG that poor little deformed paw had me from the beginning but please LORD let his death be quick......I cannot take another heartbreak. AP needs to show an episode ala first season that is joyous with no deaths......I know this is my rose colored glasses talking but really how much more can my heart bear??????His feeding calls going unanswered will haunt me for awhile now....[shudders]

Hi, de-lurking here for the first time. I've been watching the show for a long time and have loved it. when Carlos died it was so sad and I thought the same as many...why didn't they help him???? I was surprised at how hurt I was, and the bad feeling of seeing the small, helpless creature suffer so stayed with me for days. Then this week!!! Watching what happened to the pups Len and Squiggy was...well, almost unbearable. Did they actually walk away from that precious pup and leave it to die????????? It was more than I could take and made the decision to leave this show behind. I would like to remember it as it was in the beginning, which was a bit more lighthearted. The recent episodes have been so dark and depressing, and I think there is enough of that in the world as it is without inflicting it on myself on a weekly basis. Plus, I absolutely adore Flower and I KNOW I can't take seeing her die. So, I will still read your great posts here, but the TIVO is now minus one (used to be) great show. Anybody know of anything good to watch on Friday nights?

Some of the meerkat manor episodes have been bad so far. But I sure that near the end of series 3, The episodes should be funny and good with no deaths for a while.

Yes... In all epic tales there comes a time of darkness and despair. When all hope seems lost and faith is running thin. The Whiskers have indeed seem to have reached their darkest hour. In the history of the Whiskers on the KMP website, it doesn't look as if the Whiskers have had any times as despairing as these. There have been troubles, but now, it seems it has become even worse. It makes sense that now are their direst times, because Flower was their longest running, and probably, best leader. With her death comes the lowest point of their history. But the Whiskers will pull through. Loyalties will shatter; heroes will rise; and new leaders will take forth their clan into a new era. I will remain with the Whiskers throughout their darkest days, as I feel is my duty, and send them my love and my strength.
But remember...after darkness comes the dawn.

Very well said. I will also, but it is very, very difficult.
I think for many of us the beauty of the Whiskers as we first knew them is what we want to see. Season 3 has shown this will never be. It cannnot be.
It is a good thing we love all the meerkats, but it is with a very heavy heart I am witness to these changes.

Series 3 have shown us the awful truth. I now feel that time will be easy for all meerkat groups. And im sure rocket dog will last or rule longer than flower. Go rocketdog.
