hey zettak. everyone over in the burrow was thinking they abolished the forum with it being down for a while.

i've been checking in both here and there, but rarely posting recently. this is probably due to 2 main reasons. first, i started a new job a few months ago. i used to work 2nd shift and now i go in at 3 or 4 in the morning! flip flopped my whole schedule.

i'm just a little distraught also, over the cancellation. i'll get around to signing the petition within a few days, but i don't really think it will do alot of good. i think our best chance is with a new network. nothing against AP, they made a business decision. they are, afterall, the ones that made it possible to have our precious 52 (i'm guessing, could be a little off) episodes.

I was not worried. I checked other AP forums. They were all down.

Three, or four in the morning? Oh, no.

The petition is addressed at tv executives.

It's good for us all to be back although as of 5 minuites ago, FKMP was down totally! ah well, technical hitches happen.. I did think this forum was closed for a good while though, glad it is not (atleast for now).

Nazareth, I agree.. I very much doubt the petition will make anything happen. I remember when the LH was censored saying that it would damage the future of the show as many would want to be checking in on the Whiskers etc. and that the fact the censorship was then lifted confirmed that AP no longer cared if we saw the details - it won't be getting filmed again so who would care? It's a pitty more people did not see the potential-axing of the show a bit earlier instead of going with the flow, I knew axing MM was on the cards.

MM is 'affectionatly' known as a 'soap' and a 'reality show' by some crittics, I don't wish to sound negative here but im a realistic person! many shows of the above category are axed due to having 'poor ratings' which are of only 1 or 2 million viewers.. in my eyes if a show is cancelled because it only has a couple of million viewers then will a petition of just over 1000 people (many who have probably signed atleast twice) really mean anything?

I know I always plug FKMP but it's probably one of the best £25.00's ive ever spent. there are 13 episodes in a season of MM which on DVD would be about £25.00 (or more) so for me, having 12 'real' episodes to read of every year in the LH's with the real characters and all the groups I would say it's money well spent. It would also show that the more support we give FKMP the more popular a new series would be.

Another thing though which will discourage filming is the poor health of most of the group. MM never liked filming ill looking animals and right now you would be filming the meerkats that look the least-illest in a lot of cases sadly.

All AP forums were down for some hours yesterday.

I guess the meerkats don't look "glamorous" enough right now.

Not all programs of a network have top ratings, but they are not cancelled. MM S4 had less than 500,000 viewers per episode in the US. I'm sure other programs have similar, or lesser ratings. AP admitted that MM S4 was a success.

The petition is addressed at any tv executives.

The problem is that most MM viewers are not aware it was cancelled.

Petitions don't run for a week, or two. They do for at least months, and even years (not that we want it to go on for years). Unfortunately, new MM episodes didn't air for more than a year in the US, the biggest tv market for MM, and individuals are not even aware that MM was cancelled. The information embargo didn't help the situation either. Right now we try to appeal to media organizations, etc. in order to inform everybody about the cancallation, and the petition.

The viewers that do not realise the show was cancelled will be just that, "viewers" I mean there are a dozen shows ive enjoyed that where not filmed again but ive never once thought of searching the internet to find a petition to bring it back.

We must hope that our voices, the people who did enjoy the show, who did search the internet, joined forums and all met together are heard. Again though, the petition is upto approx 1300 signitures, MM got 500,000 viewers - where are they? did they enjoy it as much as us? maybe not.

I think if MM does come back which to be honest I don't think it will, it will not be for a long time, many groups are ill in one way or another, others have nervous wild individuals, many have low numbers (to what they where) even if another network was to take up the opportunity to film MM, the groups are not really in a suitable condition.

Zaphod,
You said that my question to the Nequoia is in the burrow right? Wouldnt it be on the LH report though if the members were identifed? Or they are probably still trying to identify them and the VNEM002 is just a temporary ID while they try to figure him out. I really dont think That Oricono and Logan are in Nequoia if they were they would of had to of roved atleast once to a group in the reserve or atleast be encountered with one since they are inbetween Aztecs, Sequoia, Kung Fu

We know that Logan, and Orinoco joined (a) wild group(s). If one, or the other became the DM, he would not rove to any neighboring (or not) group.

Zeetak,
What I said above about the roving thing was Logan was seen as dominant right? well wouldnt orinoco still rove? If neither were dominant wouldnt they of roved though?

If either male didn't rove to any groups (we see Rhogan Josh roving), he could be the DM of a group.

Sophie, if you have access to the friends burrow now, go to the 'Nequoia' thread, what you need to know about who is or isn't in the group is answered there.
That thread was started after the most recent LH (August) so the answers to if anyone is known or not must have been confirmed mid-september.. you would need to check the thread though because unless KMP make the info public then nothing can be discussed on the topic here.

Sometimes unrelated dominant males rove, it's a bit of dumb thing to do though because they have much more to loose than gain, unless the group they are DM of is not very attractive, like low numbers etc. a coalation could infultrate another group and take control of it (Withnail & co did this after leaving Zappa)

Any non related subordinate will still rove, again though "roving" is only noted if the individual is seen by researcher's leaving the group, or is absent and encountered somewhere else at another habituated mob. Or sometimes they can be observed to leave their group and be hanging around a wild group at a distance.Sometimes they may just not feel like roving.

Group encounters, after either fights/retreats sometimes is a trigger for males to follow the oppositition back and check out the females.

I don't think Rhogan Josh is a DM yet. He's probably subordinte of a wild group. It's looking like he and the PK/wild male have stuck together, which only leaves Machu unaccounted for as far as roving males go. Machu could be DM of RJ's home group. They could be to the west of JaXX which I don't think would be too far from PK's territory if I am right.

There would be no need for Machu to rove if he was DM and therefore we would not hear of him.

Machu would have to be very recillient to still be with us today.

say if you of the wisker's boy's left for a wild group, and then re-appear's at a later time in a habituated group would he still have the same ID code?

Yes, they would have the same id codes, but different dye marks.

I think Zettak meant that their 'new' dyemarks would be different.

The ID chip is for life so no codes would change - it's key to identification, it's usually the way an habituted / LSEEN+ meerkat is identified at another group after a long period of absence.

When meerkats join, or create a new group their dye marks are normally changed by the researchers. For example, the Whiskers females that were evicted, and are in different groups have different dye marks now. It is the same for roving males that joined other groups (eg. Zara in the Whiskers, and the Commandos). This can be checked in the various naming lists.

I was thinking in the terms of say Logan AKA-Enestien and Oricono if they are possitively identified as member's or the nequioa would they still keep the same ID code's vwm073 and vwm101? I know who probably have to become a member to get this infomation. They belive their are habituated memeber's in this group, and the only code's they have are vnef 001 & vnef 002, so if any are possitively identified does that change? I have alway's wonderd about this. Also I never really thought about the dye mark's but I would imagine they change through out their lifetime for example when males go roving, or join another group, etc.

Dye marks change when meerkats join/create another group. ID codes remain the same during their lifetime, even if meerkats join another group. So Orinoco, or Logan are not the DM of the Nequoia (the DM is VNEM002), but they can be members of the group. I wonder though that since they don't appear to be roving for a long time, at least to habituated groups (which doesn't mean too much, since they could rove to wild groups), if they are still alive, or dominants in some wild group.
