When I first read about the tragedy, I had to compose myself, light a candle for Rocket Dog and wish her an abundance of happiness in the next life. To be struck down in her prime! I, like many, had such high hopes for her. I had always believed that she would follow in Mama Flower's footsteps and have scores of pups. I wonder who is currently leading the Whiskers?

What!! how could RocketDog die?!?! My dad told me he heard about a meerkat getting run over by researchers in the news paper, but I never thought it would be her, she is and will be the only true sucessor to Flower!!She had become my favorite..why her!! *runs away crying* ~*~RIP RocketDog~*~

This is horriable!I don't know if I should be sad, angry,or both!I accepted Flower's death because it was natrual, people can only control nature to a small extent. But why a car!?If she was going to die,why a car? She did not deserve to die this way!Now we'll never know if she would've followed in her mothers footsteps. Who hit her? (it couldn't have been a researcher because they would've stopped). I feel sorry for her and the Whiskers.I was geeting so use to her as leader and now she's gone. How is AP going to explain that she was killed by a car and so soon after Flower's death? At least she will finally be at peace. R.I.P Rocket Dog.You tried you're hardest to lead, but unfortunetly fate just wasn't on your side.

Poor, poor RD. She was one of my favorites. I can see the writers now: "Rocket Dog stumbles under a car and dies. Oh well, she wasn't really fit to be a leader anyway." Let's face it, those guys are totally dissing her, just because she's not Flower. Early on in this season, she's been portrayed as nervous and unconfident, when really she was one of the best. SHE ADOPTED AXEL, for crying out loud! And remember when she bowed to Flower upon her return? Would Motzart or Tosca do that? NO!!! Sorry, now I'm ranting. I just wish we could all see a better outlook on these beautiful creatures, even the ones who seem downtrodden. Rocket Dog, you will truly be missed.

This is so sad...Poor Rocket Dog ~sigh~
A friend of mine has a subscription to Time magazine, I got a frantic call the other night at 10 pm and she was appalled at the photo they used to announce RD's passing, we have both written letters of complaint to their distasteful display. It was heinous and their editors should be ashamed of themselves.
Poor lil Rocket Dog is over the Rainbow bridge with her mom, brothers and sisters ~sigh~

What photo did they use?

Time magazine, and other similar publications are more about popular culture than anything else these days. Sorry to say, they are not so reputable anymore. The photo is from the June 23rd issue. I don't really want to describe it, because it is of very poor taste. I will though, because it is indicative of what I mentioned before. It is tire tracks running over a meerkat. There is a short caption, as well. I'm sorry for having to do this.

I looked at Time Magazine Online and all I could find was a tidbit in the Pop Chart Section
"MEERKAT MANOR star Rocket Dog killed in hit-and-run, the fourth death in two seasons. Remaining meerkats demand hazardous-duty pay"

In the magazine (Pop Chart Section) there is a photoshopped creation of a meerkat with tire tracks running over it, and the photo (it is not an actual photo of RD, which makes the situation more distasteful), and the caption that you mentioned.

Talk about tasteless
Well, RD, I guess this is goodbye. Moses never got to see the promised land either. Maybe we'll meet someday, I'd love to have your autograph/pawprint.
Later, kid.

I am so sad to read the news of Rocket Dog passing... I was so rooting for her to be her Mother's worthy successor and she was doing a great job of working on it and handling taking on such a big groop until that car cut her down... goodbye sweet girl RIP dear Rocket Dog I am sure you are with your Mother now...give her snuggles from me

Another of our furry little darlins with us in spirit only BUT with her mother. It breaks my heart! Perhaps God knew more than we did about how much they (mother and daughter) missed and needed each other. Like Flower, Rocket Dog is now a Guardian Angel to watch over her family. A thought to ponder on, we have only seen 3 of 13 episodes this season, ergo, we have yet to learn just what and how much RD accomplished before she left to join her mom. The possibilities are endless. Maybe this thought will help us get thru the season; we have much to look forward to. I am thankful that we don't see her then a snake, a bird of prey or jackal only to know the end.

Yes, i hope we see Rocket Dog shine. I hope that install big road signs and road bumps all over. Dang it. Wonderful little meerkats, with expressions that speak of so much soul. After all the tears from last season, Rocket Dog was sort of a mix of underdog and princess--a combination we could root for again! I'm still looking forward to seeing her hopefully have pups next episode. I wonder if we get to see her recover from the bite and the blindness. another strong, strong Whiskers. Love you Rocket Dog.
Don't they have enough obstacles, without having cars running them over, too? Dangitall. Here's to Rocket Dog. And here's to Maybelline, another living doll to remind us of Flower, Mozart, and all the others, and now Rocket Dog. Maybe she, at least, will have a long reign. And ok, yes, here's to Nikita, too. Still with Seacrest?
i gave up staying away from the spoiler section--you see this info all over, really. it's ok. i might as well know. I think i'm less fragile this season, like a Whisker should be. i guess Sophie is gone, too? i'll have to read more. Hi everyone.

p.s. i didn't mean that anyone should be less fragile. i just felt like people maybe got tired of my unending, nagging grief over Mozart. and I had to be able to function better through the deaths. It helps me to think of how much grief the meerkats go through, but they just don't have time to spend too long mourning or they will die. They would tell us to be strong (as the tears begin again). Ah well, it sounds good.

Someone might have posted a response but did any of RocketDog's pups survive if she succeeded in giving birth?

Rocket Dog had two surviving pups (she aborted litters several times): Beaker, a female, and Nugget, a male.

Thank you, zettak, for the information on Rocket Dog's surviving pups, I am appreciative. What do you know about Sophie's pups and were they, too, allowed to return to the Whiskers with their mom after Rocket Dog gave birth?

According to the existing name list, Sophie/Ella didn't have any (surviving) pups back then. MM was filmed from September 2007 to February/March (?) 2008. She had pups early this year.

Hi! Can someone give me a link to the Existing Names List? I must admit that at first, I wasn't very crazy about Rocket Dog... I had never heard of her!!! I didn't realize that she was starting to warm-up to me until she died!!! :-( Also I heard Zorro died... Is Mitch ok? Him, Axle, and Sophie have been my favorites!!! BTW, I'm also confused about the whole Sophie deal... Can anybody explain that?

hi! it was a huge shocker to hear about rocket dog. it seemed that she had a hard time when the group had split before flower had died, and then gave the crown back to flower. she also had a hard time when she had her first liter, but had some cute babies this year. she had tried her hardest to save the whiskers, which in the long run i think she did. all she ever wanted was to have a mate beside her, her own burrow and a family. when she did fight against the other groups, she had showed on how strong she was. she was 100% flowers daughter!!!! i know that it was also a shocker to zaphod, just losing flower and now rocket dog. he (zaphod)was proud of rocket dog, on how she had handled the group on the moves to other burrows, and taking care of the whiskers since flower was gone. i am crying over her, as i am her mom, sister mozart, carlos and the other meerkats of the whiskers group. i also know that her cute babies will miss her alot, but they have "grandpa zaphod" to be with. i know your mom, flower, is very proud of you, on how you kept the family together, that you were strong, and h | | |
