I am sooo in love with Meercats. I schedule my days so I can watch and keep track of them on TV. My co-workers think I am nuts.........when I asked hubby if we could have one.......NO NO NO. They all say.....Meercats are varmints.
Are they just varmints.? Does the camera and dialog make them bigger/smarter.? Sad
Varmints might be a bit inaccurate, but they are wild creatures and heavily regulated, so owning one would be difficult. Most of what I read say they would make poor pets anyway, all that digging and so on.
I'm afraid we are destined to enjoy them on camera only, unless we are fortunate enough to live near a zoo that has them. Or, if we are really fortunate we might make it to the Kalahari and see the Whiskers close up.
darbyann, there is a way to have a meerkat without actually having one in your home. You can adopt one on line or through a zoo who has them; the money goes to support the species and is a great rush when you look at the paperwork that is given to you. I have yet to adopt a meerkat, but my first animal love is the panda (both giant and red) and for christmas I received a panda of my own. He resides at our local zoo and I go and visit him all summer. The adoption at our zoo is actually a species and not a particular animal, but it is still incredible.
NO Meerkats are NOT varments....... By watching Meerkat Manor you will come to see that they resemble humans in many, many different ways. This show will make you fall in love with these adorable little animals. You will find yourself questioning what life and death really mean to you as well as what really matters to you out of life. Those people who belittle them are ignorant and have absolutely no understanding of how complex these animals are. My advise: Do not listen to them. Watch the show and make up your OWN mind.
Hi darbyann, welcome aboard to our meerkat family. You will find that sometimes we disagree with each other, really disagree. We are all trying to find out more information, always. But, one thing we all have in common, is that we love our meerkats. We all have our favorites and the ones we don't especially like, but we all agree these little creatures are wonderful. I also arrange my work schedule around MM. I do not work on Fridays anymore. Sure I could tape it, but what if I happen to goof up the tape and I don't see the show! I just cannot take the chance. I have watched every show from the beginning and cannot wait for season 3. My husband is so so about the show but gets interested because I am so excited. I don't visit this chat to often because I do not want to know ahead of time what will happen, but feel I do not have much to lose now. Hope I will see you on the regular chat.
