Whenever I see an animal, like a squirrel or something like that, that has been hit by a car, I think about it's family. I always get quite upset to see a dead animal, but this show has made me wonder about their little families. Does anyone else feel that way also?
I have noticed recently I feel the same way. I see a dead squirrel and wonder if she had babies waiting somewhere for her. I think the show does make you more aware of animal life in general. If I could protect all animals I would.
Yes, i feel that way - i am 55 years old and i have always thought that way ... even when i see someone clearing land for a new house or something - i think of the families being disrupted
I also feel sad when I see an animal dead in the road. That's one reason I keep my cats (not meerkats, but "dearcats") inside exclusively. Cats that live indoors only live about 5 times longer than those that live outdoors, or indoor/outdoors.
I'm one of those people who calls the police or sanitation departments when I see a dead animal. If I have time, I'll stop myself and pull the animal out of the road (with a spare plastic bag that I keep in my car, if the road's not too busy). I found somebody's cat that way, and they had a flea collar with a phone number on it. I called it on my cell phone, and they were very grateful to have been notified and to say their goodbyes. I had already called the police, there was another cat dead there also - looked like they might have been chasing each other across a road and both got hit. The second cat had no collar, so there was no way to identify if it was a stray or not. The officers took the bodies away, after the woman had seen her cat and taken the collar to keep for her daughter (whose cat it really was, she was away at school).
I ramble...but yes, we are all connected. Even now while watching this show, my father-in-law is taking that long walk from stroke/dementia/aphasia to his ultimate end. It's cruel in a different way than being picked off by a hawk, but cruel and sad nonetheless.
I try to be grateful for every day, every sunrise...
gomanngo I am exactly the same way! Both with keeping my cat children strictly indoors their whole lives (I love the word dearcats I'm going to use that!) and with moving an animal to the side of the road. I keep plastic grocery bags and plastic gloves in my trunk of my car and I always stop even if there's heavy traffic. I've had a couple close calls with cars which makes my family crazy but I can not pass an animal who is lying in the middle of road who is in danger of being hit again. All of God's creatures (animals and humans) deserve respect in their deaths so I always move an animal to the side of the road and look for some nice bushy grass or bushes to lay their body.
I have read in some of my books about Angels that even animals have guardian angels around them (even the smallest of animals like flies). I have also read that their souls do indeed go to heaven. Have you heard of the story about The Rainbow Bridge? In answer to your question, yes I have many many times thought about animals that were killed about their families. Sometimes I think that maybe I was a Meerkat in a past life because I can identify with them so easily and I am so deeply emotionally (I cannot think of the right word) to them.
gomanngo - I know how you feel...I am going through the same thing with my father...it is not easy. If you want to blow off a little steam on it, contact me...red_wing_datsyuk@yahoo.com
As far as the show goes, I've always been a lover of animals, and to see someone lose their pet is awful. Tomorrow is the beginning of deer hunting season here in Michigan, and I will not let my dogs out during the day without being out with them - I'm so afraid someone stupid will shoot at them.
The meerkats have become such a part of me now, I love them dearly. I cried when Shakespeare disappeared, and I ache for Mozart losing her little ones. But that is an unfortunate but true fact of life.
